Wow - y'all must have grabbed the 'snake poison' bottle instead of the 'tea' bottle... one of the best Holmes?? Holmes treating people with respect and compassion?! Don't read the actual books then, 'cause you'll be soooo disappointed in them!!!! They were never written to be bland 50's TV characters like this. The closest i've ever seen to the vibe of the books is Jeremy Brett, but no matter who you like, this is a tragedy.

I was about to say that, but I'll settle for I AGREE. This Holmes was quite relaxed and easygoing, very easy to approach, and VERY LOVABLE while Dr. Watson was capable, and impressive, and quite comical in his own way. Basil Rathbone was the more hardbitten, cynical, experienced, and intimidating version, although I remember doing a face palm with the way that Nigel Bruce portrayed Dr. Watson.

My only beef with this otherwise wonderful (and "Didn't the sergeant tell you?" funny) episode, is Watson not knowing that the would was caused by a bullet. hey everyone, I spotted Lady Beryl doing a "Trudeau" , or maybe a "Nadler" with her eye-brows., both of them!,...freeze at exactly 15:01 and see for yourself.,...I think because they are fine in the scene just before, perhaps they had finished, but then called the crew back for one more shot that hadn't been done with the rest., so they took a short cut hoping no one would notice., but I did. :-)

Paulette Goddard's eyes are remarkably beautiful in this despite it being a black and white production.

It seems that in these times the police did a very poor job of investigating murder. No wonder they needed Holmes
@patrickleighpresents7494 жыл бұрын
I remember reading somewhere (quite a while back, so I don't recall exactly where,) that the reason there were private detectives galore during Holmes's time was because the police force in London was too small to investigate all the crimes that took place there. It was simply impossible for them to meet the demands of the situation. People had to turn to private detectives for aid as a result. (Not that most of them were any good, apparently.) Of course, I can't recall what the source of this information was, so I can't confirm how accurate it is, but based no what I know about 19th century England, I'm inclined to believe that it's more true than not.

How can a doctor mistake a head being bashed in for a gunshot wound? And then think the bullet was still in the head?

I'd warm to Howard way more if his father hadn't set the bar so high

I prefer Ronald Howard to his father. Leslie Howard may have eclipsed him in the acting industry, but Ronald had a charm and style that was all his own.
