I met him twice. Once on a flight from Palm Springs (where he lived), and once In Honolulu, when I was out early in the morning. I was walking between hotels, came around a corner, and there he was talking with Loni Anderson. I got to chat with both of them, and he remembered me being his first class flight attendant a few months before. He was so nice. I can’t remember what year it was, but I started flying in 1983, and it wasn’t too long after that.

@@foobarmaximus3506 Now now Maxey, don't let your personal prejudice dim your critical eye. Something we all may be prone to toward certain stars. He was in many good films from his start to about 1950 or so. The fact that almost all of his films subsequently (and particularly in the 1960's) were appallingly dreadful does not change that fact. YOU may not like his comic persona, but this particular film is a gem to any more balanced spirits toward him...

Funny, funny, funny, funny. Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour great combination. Loving it. I was a wee kid when my parents used to watch these in the 1970s. Now in 2018, my girl of 11 loves them. Long may this comedian continue to make future generations laugh.

The wit of the old days from those who came out of vaudeville dwarfs the comedic intellect today. Men like Henny, George, Milton, Jack, and their apprentice, Bob always kept it simple while always keeping a smile on your face. Little slapstick. Just good wit.

That's my point I suppose. Not trying to be annoyingly repetitive.

@TheStockwell
@TheStockwell 4 жыл бұрын
@@redlinemando No doubt about it, copyrights are complicated things. A film is clearly in the public domain - until the fine print kicks in. A silent film can be absolutely, unquestionably copyright domain. But, if someone spends time, money, and effort to restore it, then THAT version is theirs - because of what they did to spruce it up. Paramount let their claim on "My Favorite Brunette" expire, which is why there are so many low quality versions around. Kino International hunted down a first generation print of the film, cleaned it up, and that made it theirs. The "1975 Rule" doesn't apply to newly remastered versions which can be registered as new works. The restoration of 1925's "Metropolis" or the decades of work put into hunting down and restoring every frame of Abel Gance's 1927 "Napoleon" - neither film is public domain because they are old or because the original versions are in the public domain. If Martin Scorsese spends a decade restoring a film by D.W. Griffith, it's not public domain simply because the original film's copyright has expired. For that matter, a new recording by the Berlin Philharmonic of the Beethoven Ninth isn't public domain just because Beethoven died nearly two centuries ago. No doubt about it, copyrights are complicated things. When a film is released, its copyright status is made legal by simply adding the words "Copyright 2020 Paramount Pictures." Sounds simple. But if a studio forgets to add that little notice, they've automatically released the film into the public domain. That's the law. In 1963, Universal released "Charade," a Stanley Donen film starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant with a score by Henry Mancini. Guess what phrase was left off the films credits and what that meant. Yep - Universal spent all their money to release a film into the public domain.

@@TheStockwell Well..............I think I understand what you're saying. If this posting is the cleaned up version, then I would presume it is indeed a copywritten work & falls into the category you've mentioned. You're right about copyrights being complicated. I suppose film & music copyrights are two very different things. It is my understanding that music copyrights run out after 75 yrs & a song becomes public domain. With some of the new laws put into place, I could very well be mistaken about that. Are you a copywrite lawyer by chance? If so, can you tell me, in the music industry, how does "work for hire" work if the person for hire was never paid for their time & talents as was agreed by the employer? I was on a nationally released album recorded in 2008 & was never paid for my vocals & instrumental work. What are my rights there & how do I go about collecting that was agreed to? I have no written agreement, but only verbal & my name appears on the album credits. It wasn't a huge amount of money agreed upon, but I am entitled to it. I could probably get a former band mate to vouch for the conversation that took place.
