@@robertmorley4506 i think serious song writers put so much time and effort into their craft (many study it as an art) that it almost becomes a job, someone like maynard james kennan (tool) says it sometimes takes months to write lyrics, like a novelist constantly rewriting their words. i can't imagine there's anything "therapeutic" about that.

I've loved PJ Harvey since Rid of Me. But how odd, I've rarely ever heard her speak. I'm so accustomed to hearing these huge vocals coming out of this petite woman, it's a little bit of a shock to listen to this calm, quiet, articulate voice. Not only do I want to revisit some of my fav PJ songs, I want to find some recent interviews of her.

I admit, first time I listened to "Dry" & "Rid Of Me", she scared me to death. I had incorrectly evaluated her as a very angry, raging, dark androgynous sorceress hell-bent on revenge and bloodlust over the former lover that had frivolously trifled with her heart, forever haunting him with her curses and hexes. But, when I watched her interviews, I was shocked at just how "normal", how proper, dainty, lady-like, soft-spoken, uniquely gorgeous, intelligent & sweet that she really is. I was expecting some hot mess wacky as hell, kind of like Courtney Love, but no she is so much nothing of the sort. She is a true professional and a very amazing singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist artist covering a wide range of styles and genres.

Great post. Astute and honest and funny. I'm enjoying seeing all the love for Polly Jean here, especially from men! I thought men might find her a bit threatening. I agree her musical persona is different from her offstage personality. I knew she was a country farm girl. I don't think she's ever lived in London. She's never married or had a baby either, which is interesting to me as a woman. I saw her three times in Philly in the late 90s/early 2000s. Twice in the tiny Theatre of the Living Arts and once opening the basketball stadium for U2, believe it or not. She came out on the stage that time wearing a a tiny dress and super high stiletto heels, and promptly broke one during the first song. No worries, she just played the rest of the show barefoot. I would just respectfully suggest that you might also give Courtney more consideration. She's also quite smart and sensitive and not as much of a hot mess as the media wanted/wants us all to believe. She hasn't done much musically since those first few albums (which were great) but she's turned out to be a fine actress. She also did a very decent job of raising her daughter, who just turned 30 and by all accounts seems quite normal considering who she is!

@@ScottishTeeVee Sure thing. Great job on the upscaling/deinterlacing on your vids. They look great. I've been doing the same on all my old VHS and S-VHS tapes. :D

@@AaronClow Are you adding plenty of tags on each video? and I did not see any end screens links at the end of your videos, have at least two or three thinks to other videos on your channel and a "Subscribe button" at the end. You and I are not doing this to make money, but you wanna retain any viewers you have, get them to subscribe and hopefully watch more of your videos. Watch until the very last seconds of this videos, you will see the "Subscribe" pirate branding icon appear first, then links to other videos on this channel,

@@ScottishTeeVee Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I haven't optimized anything. This is really just a personal archive so I can ditch my VHS cassettes. But I suppose your point is well taken - people might want to see what I have and I should make it easier for them! Cheers, and THANK YOU for all your hard work!

I felt the same way about my music - and I thought I understood the meaning of all the songs on my CD - 15 years later I realize - the artist is the last person you should ask about the meaning of their work - we have a clear idea at the time of creation - but its not the truth - the truth only comes out with radical honesty and radical acceptance - PJ - you'll feel a lot better if you accept the truth about your art - and BTW Art Therapy has proven to be effective with healing - studies were done in German hospitals because the American Pharma industry would not allow the studies in the USA. Art Therapy was disqualified from medical insurance in the early 1990s --- big Pharma won again. Create, produce, heal.

@Tyler Wareham I thought PJ Harvey fans would have an open mind. P.J.talked about not really fitting in at school. Idk alot about B.E. but I know she had some issues about herself- how she got those issues I do not know, but I remember hearing, it is part reason why she dresses how she does. Their music & lyrics could be worlds apart but I would still see that one thing in common. I believe PJ is wiser & more in touch with what she writes. There's 3 decades that separates them. But I definitely did not mean in any type way that they're so much alike &/or easily comparable. I wish there was a 2020s female artist influenced by P.J.Harvey, Tori Amos, Hope Sandoval.... I'm 56-idk much about the artists coming out now- tbh- I don't pay too much attention bc what I have heard I do not care for. I don't mean what I said as a an exclamating insult nor taken as one & I hope others would understand.
