Today We pay a visit to Emballator Packaging Ltd, Unit 1, City Link Industrial Estate, Phoenix Way, Bradford BD4 8JP.
This company makes both plastic and metal paint tins for companies like Dulux etc.
The truck driver that I spoke to had to wait a long time to get loaded and the staff were a mixture of cool and relaxed and a bit stressed and didn't want to talk to me.
I hope you enjoy the video

I used to work at the Co-op where we had a raised loading bay, 3 cages wide, so we had... The empty food cages, which slotted into each other, along with 1 or 2 empty Blue pallets from the frozen, on the far side. The empty milk cages, which sort of slotted into each other, in the middle. 2 of 3 metals pallets, with the empty bread trays, on the near side. There was always enough room, as the bread pallets could be quickly pushed out of the way, if they were in the way, however most drivers only ever used one flap anyway to unload the stuff. A man in his 50s would be upstairs in the warehouse taking the new stock cages out of the lift, putting the cardboard and plastic cages in the lift, and checking off some of the stock at the same time... While usually me (or one of the supervisors if I was busy doing something else) would be loading and emptying the left downstairs, and helping the driver get the cages on and off the truck, unless we had a driver who wanted to empty and fill the truck by himself. Then I'd go upstairs and help check off the delivery. That was just one of my many jobs, as I did more jobs than anyone there, and I liked it... However that's partly why I eventually got sacked as my manager before she left asked me to finish off putting the last few cages out, most of which was for my own sections beer, wine, spirits, pop etc which had been piling up (whereas everyone else only had 1 or 2 sections), yet practically as soon as the manager left the building, one of my lazy supervisors wanted me to stop what I was doing, to help her do her job, so that she could chill out for the last hour of the night, just like she did every night. I refused, told her to fuck off and do it yourself, so she sent me home. I was then sacked by an area manager, as even though I was doing what my manager had told me to do, when my manager isn't around, I have to listen to my lazy supervisors, no matter how wrong it is. I was also the guy who was constantly tidying up the cardboard, as most people don't think about evenly distributing the cardboard, so it was nearly always sliding off the cages, until I came around tore up the bigger bits of cardboard or boxes which hadn't been ripped up at all, and spread it around the cages evenly. I could usually get 2 or 3 cages of cardboard onto just 1 cage, once I had finished with it.

What was the blue light on the forklift? I've never seen that before.

the idea is that someone will see the light before they might hear the forklift if its a noisy environment thereby not getting hit

Nice little visit 👍⭐⭐⭐ The triangular industrial used to by the Quarry Gap wye junction for the railways and along the railway side was a siding yard in the 1800s. Most of the estate was a quarry and Emballator was a field situated within the wye tracks. In the 1900s rail sidings also occupied the field. Suspect the wyes and sidings at Quarry Gap and south at Tyersal were abandoned in the 70s-80s purges. The adjacent Tyersal Terrace estate dates to WW2 era. So PJ gives us tours of former railway wye junctions in Bradford while DJ gave similar tours down in Filton, Bristol. 😁

@@psychopaul508 Your assessment unravels a tapestry of intellectual emptiness, akin to the barren halls of an abandoned educational landscape. The conspicuous dearth of formal education echoes like an academic vacuum, leaving your mental canvas blank and bereft of substance. This void extends beyond the classroom, casting a shadow over your personal interests, as if your pursuits mirror the simplicity of a child's fleeting whims. The absence of self-motivation is reminiscent of a playground where enthusiasm wanes as quickly as it sparked, showcasing a childlike capriciousness rather than the resilience needed for adult endeavors. Your social landscape resembles a deserted playground, devoid of friendships and meaningful connections, leaving you stranded in the solitude of juvenile solitude. Attempting a logical debate with you seems akin to engaging in a discourse with a child still learning the alphabet, as your critical thinking skills appear to be in a state of perpetual recess. In the grand scheme, your overall demeanor is more reminiscent of a nursery rhyme than a symphony of intellectual depth. Pity indeed befalls the playground philosopher, navigating the sandbox of life with a child's grasp on the complexities that adulthood demands.

I spent years managing fork lift operators, it's amazing how many ignore their training, driving forwards vision obscured, no seatbelt, not looking in direction of travel, no use of horn, inappropriate speed. Best thing I ever did was change my job, people really don't give two shits about health and safety.

I spent 3 months on a zero hour contract, in the lead up to Christmas 11 years ago, at another packing company which has it's own in-house agency (which mainly advertises jobs in Eastern Europe) and took a cut of the wages, just a couple of miles from here. I was mainly in the warehouse doing things like industrial hoovering, sweeping up, piling up pallets, emptying bins and throwing rubbish in the crusher and crushing it, putting stock on pallets and wrapping it up, and loading it onto trucks with an electric hand pallet truck (although I prefer the ones which are non-electric) as I don't drive. The 5 odd English forklift drivers in the warehouse were excellent. They went at reasonable speeds. They could always see where they were going. And they always beeped before going around a corner. However the staff inside the factory for the warehouse (where I spent roughly 4 weeks working) made my blood boil, as the English bosses and owners in the office, put Eastern European supervisors in charge of the factory itself, and let them share out the working hours. The Eastern European supervisors gave the 90-95% Eastern European workforce mates as many hours as they wanted, whether they were on zero hour contracts like me or not. Some of them wanted to work as much as 80 hours a week, and they let them. Whereas the 5-10% of English people like me, would beg the Eastern European supervisors for more hours, as they quickly reduced our hours from 30+ hours a week, to 10-15 hours a week, earning less than we would on Jobseeker's Allowance. I complained to the English bosses and owners about this, but they weren't interested. They just said "speak to the supervisors." All the bosses/owners care about is making money, and they don't care who is doing the work.
