I Had to Resort to Nymph Fly Fishing - The Dry Fly Season Still Isn't Here

The weather is still against us here in Devon, the River Exe is just fishable but the constant wind is still cold keeping fly life to a minimum. As the wild brown trout aren't looking up, I had to resort to nymph fishing. It's just not my favourite method but when it's the only thing that works, it has to be done!

Same here, tried an emerger pattern dry on Saturday, one take and then nothing. Really challenging at the moment. Forecast this week is for much warmer temperatures so fingers crossed!

It's the same here in Hampshire and Wiltshire. The cold, wet conditions seem to have put everything on hold. I went for a walk by the Itchen the other day. No visible insect life. Saw a couple of tiny rises from obviously very small fish over the space of an hour. Ditto the Wilts Avon today. Haven't been out yet this season. Rained quote hard again while I was out today. Thinking of just chucking the rods in the car tomorrow and dragging some nymphs and streamers about just to get my season under way.

hi, it's the same everywhere I think and after getting good weather for Sun and Mon my two visits to the river saw no flies or fish so blanked having tried dries,spiders and nymphs but due to illness giving me a break for a bit I was just happy to be on the water anyway.

I just prefer that connection, seeing the rise. Using a nymph is a bit too close to my old coarse fishing days for me. Thanks for watching
