These placemats are hard to find these days but got some on eBay. I did use a few to make “saddlebags” for a walker I used when I had hip replacement surgery and made a set for my aunt when she went to the hospital during COVID. They have been a tremendous hit! I used just a pocket for the sides and used 2 for the front. I folded them in such a way that created 3 tiers of pockets, the top was 2 pockets, next was 3 pockets and the lower had 4 smaller pockets. I attached these with a solid grosgrain ribbon about an inch wide and tied them to the walker. Beautiful!

These remind me of the hair curler bag my Grandma made for me when I was a little girl. The curlers were in the big section. The bobby pins, comb and brushes were in the outside pouches. My mom had dipitydo and pink hair tape in hers.....lol. Yes, I am a baby boomer. haha.

This was so fun to make!!! I have tons of mistakes in this first one but it’s still so cute! TFS such a great project. And it really was super easy! A good many times crafters say that and the project is anything but easy! I now need to get back to Walmart for more placemats! Lol.

Thanks for these clever, cute, and frugal placemat project bag tutorials! I think I might try to install a zipper to those "channels" you made for drawstrings, by sewing them (the folded fabric strips) to the insides of the top of the bag instead of the outside sides as you have done here. I may even install the zipper by hand (gasp!) using a running stitch twice (to mimic the look of sewing machine, and have two lines of stitching on each side to ensure that zipper stays put). This way I won't have to waste the nice scalloped edges I have on the Pioneer Woman placemats I was able to find in the WalMart here in Canada. Thanks again for the inspiration! ~Diana

I made one!! It turned out great. I did cut out 2 inch square corners, then just matched up .. easier for me .. then trying to find the center with it so bulky! Love it!
@Rainstorm13012 жыл бұрын
Your prototype is fine! One side is for shorter things..other side is for taller things..if anyone said anything about it, there was a reason you did that 😉! Love this...gotta either make some placemats or get out and buy some..I can see making this and putting straps on it instead of drawstrings...how about a zipper on top and straps...my daughter wants one to carry her lunch and "stuff" for work in...you are a good teacher!! UPDATE... cannot get this placemat..evidently not made anymore...my local Walmart had only square quilted ones in stock..had some that were not quilted, but I think the fabric is ugly...I ordered a pkg. online and when they came the back is red check with a blue pattern front..there was no back shown in the description when I ordered them..I hate the red check with the blue front which I do like..I might do it anyway, but ultimately to get what I want, I will have to make my own placemat or maybe find some other than pioneer woman and walmart...probably just make my own..my own fault--the video is 3 years old which I did not realize when I watched it...price is now 6$ each or $20 for set of 4 online...lesson learned

I have seen project bags in stores with pockets on the outside and I dont like that. I would do pockets on inside and maybe use another placemats or quilted fabric for the bottom. That would create a bigger bag with deep pockets! These are my ideas

Thinking narrow and vertical with a strap for the large water bottle. Do you have any ideas?
