Touche`. I was literally just at The Great Smokey Mountain N.P. hiking and should have caught my slip of the tongue. Thank you for pointing this out. I love the Blue Ridge Mountain's just as much. Being from MN, the whole Eastern mountain range is one long expanse in my mind, much like the Western Rockies, but you are correct. ~ Thank you for watching!

@@TheRetrieverNation your very sweet reply made me almost regret my snarky-sounding comment! :-) I'm a lucky gal...I was born and raised in the Smokeys and I call the Mountains of the Blue Ridge home now...McAfee's Knob is in my backyard! Your video has inspired my gentleman friend and I. We've hiked the Knob once already but are going to get up this Sunday and catch the sunrise. Wish us luck and welcome back to our part of the country anytime!

Can you hike the trail at night and camp to make a shorter trip the next morning? Love the video. I live in VA and I'd like to try this but I'm 61 and not sure how strenuous it might be. Thanks.

Yes, you can. There are a handful of specified campsites to stay at. They are listed at the trailhead kiosk and also on maps of the trail.

Friends of ours were married there. We hiked up the day of the wedding and the wedding was at sunset. It was so beautiful. We hiked down in the dark. Such a special day.
