While FEMA stays at the most expensive hotels that cost over, 1,000$. They provide those small boxes for the victims. FEMA should stay in those boxes and the victims should be the ones in those expensive hotels.

This way of thinking is what causes division and separation in a community, no matter where you come from. Remember, the locals who live Lahaina, need for stick togeddah as one Ohana to anaddah Ohana. Every one of us concerned shared in some way or another, that pain of tragic fight or flight that Lahaina Local Families experienced. Now is a time for closeness and appreciation that survivors stay. Much aloha to all of Lahaina!!!

This is a great short-term solution. Those hotels are incredibly expensive and spread out over miles. They are separated and far from their homeland. The government can't pay for hotels for long at several hundred dollars a night. This is a good longer term housing solution until they can rebuild the town. It allows them to stay connected to each other. And it allows them to stay close to the town to engage most directly in the oversight of the rebuild. It keeps them close to their homeland and each other. And it gives them a place to call home for a while. I hope they build some amenities so that it feels like a community. It's a bit sad that it's so close to the highway though. It must be noisy.

They were sent by Hungary for the people in Maui to use until they have rebuild their homes. Then, I guess, these container homes will be sent back to Hungary. The USA is helping Europe to fight off Russia and that’s why Europe sent these container homes to help out.

@@SN-bl6xm They are a donation, they will not be sent back to us. Twenty came over with a NATO C-17 and another 230 will be arriving until October. I assume this organisation also bougth additional containers thats why the confusion. I think there are more then 250 families who need housing.

As was stated in the video, this will be a temporary community for the displaced residents. It will take a year or more, likely more, to rebuild Lahaina. This temporary community will have a center gathering place and facilities like a laundry. The same type of community was put in Joplin Missouri, after the 2011 tornado killed 158 people, injured 1,150, and destroyed over 4000 homes and businesses. It took over a year to rebuild homes in Joplin, after which the temporary buildings were removed. It may take a lot longer to rebuild in Hawai'i due to the isolated location, and lack of skilled labor. People can't stay in the hotels indefinitely while their community is rebuilt. FEMA won't be around forever, since there are too many other disasters occurring all over the U.S. and they are already spread thin.

You say 'bring in a cruise ship' - like they can be confiscated for purpose. They can't. Cruise ships are owned by multi-national companies that think of profits before humanitarian aid. Ships are no doubt booked up for the rest of the summer season and currently carting many thousands of pensioners around the world. They are not handily waiting on stand-by for any catastrophe like this. These units are the very best thing for displaced families at the present time. The homeless can't live in hotels for much longer (the island has already been appealing for foreign tourists to return and help their ailing economy - how are they going to do that if the hotels are full of homeless people?) The homeless want their privacy, their independence again. They want to be able to hang out their washing, let their children play outside while dinner is prepared, put on the radio, be at ease talking with a new neighbour. Sticking them in a cruise ship is no better than keeping them in a hotel - with the added option of sinking, and I think some of the survivors have had quite enough of the sea for a while. We can't rule out that the next thing to hit the island is a massive sea storm. If you put a large family in a cruise ship, they may have to occupy more than one cabin, cabins that aren't necessarily next door to each other, not necessarily on the same deck either, the parents unable to keep tabs on all their children especially at night. So the fact that a number of these housing units can be linked together will be a blessing for larger families, allowing everyone to stay together and keep safe under one roof. No little children wandering around a deck at night, little between them and a plunge into the sea. Hungary did an excellent thing here and can be commended on their thoughtfulness and their efficiency. It was no mean feat to get these units bought and delivered to Maui in such a short time. Well done, Hungary - you've taught the world a lesson in practicality and effectiveness.
