That was very similar to my experience with the plane. If anything Tom had more success than I ever had. The rest of the airships work great, I just can't wrap my head around the plane. So far I've enjoyed stationary battleship the most, but everything is fun. Look forward to a full release with more content.

IF you plan on doing more, I advise trying an AFK build with the big ship. Combining Stand your Ground with its 4 guns and big health pool has been a victory every time i tried it.

I went through this same journey. Those fire grenades the anarchist use are brutal. Also, it doesn't work as well as you'd like with the fungus either. However, I refuse to give up! I shall make it happen!

Flotilla is also an English word, pronounced 'flow-till-uh'. The same way chinchilla, a Spanish word, is also an English word using the English pronunciation style. Not sure there's any reason why flotilla is pronounced one way and tortilla another, but that's linguistics I guess!

I played this a bit after you showed it last time. The balance is awful. Most of the equipment is completely useless. The Suspendium Cannon is pretty much the only weapon that can beat the game without having everything else be PERFECT. Whenever there is a choice between fire-rate and damage, fire rate is OVERWHELMINGLY better. It is not even close due to the swarms of enemies. Range is KING. The equipment that trades range for damage is a trap. The doctrine that causes fear 5x a second is SO much better than other doctrines that it isn't even funny. The upgrade that makes fear also stun/vulnerable makes it even more insane. And the equipment that automatically ignites feared/stunned enemies will kill almost everything anyway. After 15ish hours of trying out every way I could think of to make other builds work, there just isn't anything else viable. And when I say "viable", I ACTUALLY mean "viable". I don't mean 'X is much better than Y'. I mean 'X does the job and Y does NOT do the job'. Melee is worthless because too many things blow up, and you CANNOT get enough hp and/or healing to survive the damage AND burning. Missiles are worthless because the long-range ones don't shoot enough to kill the swarms, and the swarm ones don't kill enemies far enough away. Mixing them doesn't help. I had a battleship with 2x T3 ranged missiles, 2x T2 swarm missiles, multiple fire-rate upgrades, and even the explosion/damage from armor upgrades. It was not nearly enough. Support Ship builds are worthless. They only engage enemies that are VERY close to your ship. If there are 20+ enemies on-screen in the later levels, you are dead. Support ships that wait until enemies are within 150-200 range before starting to attack means the enemy WILL be hitting you no matter how fast enemies get shot when the attack starts. If a battleship[1] with 2x upgraded command gear (+2 ships each) and an upgraded drone doctrine (+3 ships) can't make a drone build work, then drones don't work. I also tried it on the plane so I could make attack runs. It still didn't work. Like, at all. The other cannons/rifles are worthless because they are either too short-range, fire too slow, or are too inaccurate/slow at range. The only viable options are Rapid Suspendium Cannons + fear/stun doctrine + module that ignites fear/stun. I completed the level 18 superboss once with each ship using this strategy. It took 1-2 tries for each ship. Once you get the core equipment, it just works, no variation. No other build made it past level 14 in the 80+ other runs. Not even the 'god roll' ones where I had all the weapons and doctrine I wanted by level 4-5. Winning in any other way is basically an accident. That's not good balance. [1] Yes. I had a good mix of drones. 2x upgraded Gatling drones. 2x upgraded Deck gun drones. 3x upgraded spotters with stun. 1x repair. 1x fire suppression. It was not NEARLY enough.

I had a sneaking feeling this was the case given how it seemed in the video that the game didn't really offer any interesting items that truly change the gameplay to synergize with something like melee.

@@rapter229 to consider; this is only a demo/open alpha, plenty of upgrades and ships aren't added in that version, and the balance is a known issue that the single dev is working to deal with though saws are one of the two OP weapons in the game; one of my best builds was a battleship with triple saws
