My understanding is that's been the arrangement for a while. It's a normal active-duty RAAF aerial refueler, but a couple of them are dual use as long-range VIP aircraft for the PM and other high-ranking Australian government staff.

They still use it, but these days A340 they use it to help Thai workers living in Israel and Palestine. Therefore, this meeting had to bring this A350 of Thai Airways aircraft instead first.

yep, its A330 MRTT (multi role tanker tansport) its otherwise known as KC2 Voyager for the RAF, it has a boom + tanking baskets under the wings close to the edges (3 refuelling stations).

Those planes have been used for a while to do long-range VIP transport for the Australian PM and other high-ranking officials of the Australian government. They had dedicated planes for the PM in years past, but they converted them to refuelers for dual use as a refueling plane and VIP transport. The VIP planes (even after being used as refuelers) were once painted white with high-visibility markings, but subsequently got the same low-visibility gray paint and markings that the rest of the RAAF fleet uses. I believe this decision was made by one of the recent Australian PM's for both budgetary and military readiness reasons. When not used to fly the PM or other Australian government VIPs, they serve as active refueling tankers with the RAAF.
