The final scene has more poignancy when you know that this was scripted and filmed with Neals wife suspecting that he was having an affair and that all the escapades were just excuses to not come home whilst he saw the other woman. It's only when she says "Hello Mr Griffiths" that she realises it was all true and she had nothing to fear after all. Her performance always felt a bit 'odd' to me until you know that context. Why they decided in editing to cut the subplot I'll never know as I think there's enough jollity to be able to withstand a little pathos and I think the ending would be even better with it still intact.
@unclebounce14952 жыл бұрын
because that was an unnecessary and distracting subplot, and femayle paranoia like that is not worth a moment of screen time.
@davidforestieri47842 жыл бұрын
Yes, the lost cut of the film definitely changes the marriage dynamic from the theatrical release (just missing each other) to something more nefarious

Another super fun performance from Steve Martin is My Blue Heaven. Also stars the always wonderful Rick Moranis. It's a comedy based on Henry Hill's (the lead character in Goodfellas) time in witness relocation. It basically picks up where Goodfellas leaves off, but is a comedy instead of a drama. Came out literally like a month or two before Goodfellas. It's great fun.

"You shared a motel room with a complete stranger? Are you crazy?" "Not yet. But I'm getting there." Happy Thanksgiving! 😎 🦃 Fun Fact: After the credits, Neal's boss is still at his desk analyzing the ads, his Thanksgiving dinner sitting on his desk. New House Fact: Neal's (Steve Martin) house was also a set built from scratch, consisting of seven rooms, and taking five months to complete. It ended up costing $100,000, which angered Paramount executives, and caused turmoil on the set. Crazy Rant Fact: The Marathon Car Rental scene is exactly one minute long from the time Steve Martin starts his tirade to the time the attendant ends the scene. In that sixty seconds, the "F" word is used nineteen times. The film would've easily been rated PG or PG-13 by the MPAA, if it weren't for this one scene.

I was an unspottable extra in this movie. I was in the bus station scene where John Candy was selling the curtain rings to the girls as earrings, but I've never been able to actually see myself in the background. Unfortunately, there was over an hour of this movie that was cut for the theatrical release. What was cut has been, mostly, lost. The missing scenes elucidate a lot on some scenes that seem confusing. For instance, the pizza guy getting stiffed for a tip comes back to rob the guys. Also, missing scenes where Neal's wife thinks he is cheating on her and Del isn't real.
