Steve Martin is fine actor and a great comedian. But in Planes Trains and Automobiles, the final scene in the train station when John says "Marie's been dead for eight years" his delivery is beyond perfect. It is straight from his heart to ours. It is one of those moments where only incredible talent will do. And poor Steve had to react to that moment and he didn't measure up. That's how good John Candy was. Of course if Maureen O'Hara says you're good, well, you're good. She would know.

"If you're not enough WITHOUT it, you'll never be enough WITH it." I've been quoting this line since I graduated high school in '94. Thank you, to the writers of Cool Runnings, and thank you too, John, for sending the message home, making it poignant and making it stick.🥰🥰🥰 I use it for accolades and relationships.

There's a scene in Planes, Trains and Automobiles that's very beautiful. It's at the end of the movie. Steve Martin and Candy are walking to Steve's home (with the trunk). As they approach the front door, Candy stays back, removes his hat, and awaits the door to open. When it does, there's this look on his face of humility, with a brush of happiness. It's so powerful to me. Very real. I always think of that scene when I think of John Candy. Brilliant actor.
