The scene with the kid theif. He was the beer and pizza delivery guy. The scene was cut from the final movie. That is how he picked that room.

I watch this movie every Thanksgiving. It never gets old. It’s Steve Martin’s best and John Candy’s best.

The theme song is a version of the classic folk tune Red River Valley, not Holiday Road. But it's played more upbeat in the same way.

There was a cut scene where the hotel room robber kid was the pizza delivery boy. He saw the money in the wallet when Del paid him.

Also there was a cut storyline where Neal's wife has a suspicion that all his excuses for being late are because he's having an affair. So when she meets Del at the end she realizes it was all true and she had nothing to worry about.

I've read that for for the tobacco spit on the hand, supposedly the director didn't tell Steve Martin about it to get a genuine grossed out reaction from him. Chicago to St Louis is like 300 miles by car...that would be some taxi bill.
