Hi Scott, I'm currently stuck in Porto after my wife was evacuated off a cruise ship with a life-threatening condition two weeks ago. Thankfully she was successfully operated on by the fantastic Portuguese health service and we will hopefully be flying back to Glasgow in the next week or so. I'd just like to say thanks as your you-tube videos have helped to keep me sane in really difficult circumstances while I'm stuck in a hotel doing daily hospital visits. I'd recommend that you do the Easy-jet flight to Porto, and have a look around as Porto is a lovely city, the Portuguese people a second to none and the beer and whisky is very cheap. Thanks again, Tony W

I enjoyed the three vlogs and look forward to visiting Alicante on a day trip from Benidorm in April. I know what you mean about Benidorm - it's pretty vulgar in parts but the old town and further up where the Spanish live is pretty nice, I think it's a shame that you focussed your camera on the worst aspects. Still, thanks for showing me Alicante - it's one place along the coast I've yet to see. 😊😊😊

I once did a street art walking tour of Berlin, and one of the guides (who was learning the ropes) kept slapping stickers on bollards and lampposts as we were walking round. I've no idea what they were for, or why she was doing it, but you have to wonder whether anyone actually stops to read them!

In the end, the stickers are for the same reason the prisoners carved the graffiti: To leave a trace, to leave something behind. Some are from football clubs, some are political, some are just art. It makes me smile to see stickers, tags or graffiti again I placed somewhere months or years ago if I go back there, on photos, videos or on streetview.

Long underrated but now on the up. Gentrification has spread as far north as Carolinas, in the historical centre it's loaded with airbnb's and aparthotels, low value tourism has exploded in the past 5 years. My fear is that it'll end up like Barcelona or Malaga, hollowed out districts, rents already make no sense in Alicante compared to local wages.
@saltaireorangebicyclechopp85558 ай бұрын
@@Nostalgia- What l meant was...these airbnbs & aparthotels generally are inhabited by tourists who arrive, go the supermarket to stock up & live cheap. I understand that, l've done it. But l no longer do, it's causing housing problems for the locals, blocks are bought up, rents raised, locals evicted & bingo, another aparthotel. It's not "according to me" there are plenty of cheap hotels, pensions & dorms in Alicante but some want even cheaper. It's not a good thing.

Hi Scott, I have been watching your videos for a long time now and love coming along on all your fantastic adventures! I have a challenge to start your 2024 so let’s see if you’re up for it! The challenge is to complete an extreme day trip. This involves flying from Glasgow/Edinburgh to any destination outside the UK but you must return home within 24 hours. Alongside the challenge you have to complete these mini tasks during your time in your chosen destination; - try some local cuisine - ride any form of local transport - visit a local attraction/place of interest - bring home a souvenir To make this a real challenge you have to complete all set above as CHEAPLY as possible! (And of course, vlog the whole experience so we can enjoy too!) You have been challenged - good luck!

Thanks Scott. The weather stats for Glasgow can be misleading - as you rightly say, some days it only rains for a few minutes and you could easily miss a shower if you're indoors somewhere. I have cycled to/from work in the city centre for 30 years and most of the times I never get wet. Many days the BBC forecasts rain, but it doesn't actually rain!

Dude, stickers. Many years ago, I was at the top of the Eiffel Tower with my daughter. She wanted to scratch her name into the paint work. I was horrified. I said why? She said, I need to leave a mench. (A Mention. I was here). You know, Kilroy was here. I said, no way. If everyone did that, the place would fall down. I suppose stickers are a compromise. Having said that, even Howard Carter left a Mench. And so did Graham Hancock's Grandad. And, a lot of other people. Going back, as it happens, into the dark mists of time.

I now live about 20 minutes west of Alicante, up in one of the Serra's. I think on the part I live on, there are over 70 trails to walk. Its beautiful all year round, but November to April are great months to visit, and air fares are cheap. Sometime beggars can't be choosers, so treat Ryanair the same as a bus, and don't buy any extras. Its not exactly a transatlantic flight. Come back again Scott, and visit Murcia and Cartegena. Beuatiful cities too.
