PART 8: Trans Siberian-Irkutsk
I was quite surprised at how quickly four nights on a train passed. I set a routine early on. Have a wash, breakfast, read, listen to music or listen to a podcast. The trains stop at stations every 5 hours or so. As a result, your day can be broken down into 5 hour segments, with a 20-30 minute reward of a walk along the platform. That was when I met English speaking passengers. It was also a great way of buying local food. I was surprised at how beautiful Siberia was and to be honest, a little disappointed when the train arrived into Irkutsk.

What's the deal with platform 2646? Google doesn't seem to know...

There are lots of random platforms/halts in the middle of nowhere with no names along the Trans-Siberian. Platform 2646 would suggest it's 2646 Km from Moscow.

This video brought back a lot of memories. I travelled from Vladivostok to Moscow in 2015 making stops in Irkutsk and Omsk. I had 12 hours in Irkutsk so I went to Listvyanka to visit Lake Baikal.

You did the WHOLE THING. Wow. Maybe someday. We've been Amtraking a few different lines here in the States. DEFINITELY do the Coast Starlight someday. Some insane sights that we captured. Red button smashed for a fellow storyteller. Keep sharing what you love!

While I love the romance of the trans Siberian, all those evocative names you pass through the reality of 4 days on a train with nothing to do but look out the window is a bit daunting.

Well, I did it and the time flew by honestly. At least in my train there was a dining car, served a decent bacon and eggs in the morning, then there are the stops to break up the day. Then there is always reading of course and you can download some Netflix shows or podcasts and music, things like that. But the main attraction is indeed looking out the window. The scenery is not the most exciting to be honest... lots of trees :D But nothing beats the feeling of being on a train literally to the other side of the world. Its hard to describe but its a completely different sensation than flying, you feel way more like you are actually travelling to the other side of the planet.
