I work for a large retailer which sells apple trees in Spring... Of course my colleagues didn't water them, and they were going to be thrown out.... But then ended up coming home with 15 apple trees for one euro each... Local park now has 15 apple trees growing well and fast!

I brought two loquat fruit stones back from Barcelona in 2015, and I now have two 6ft loquat trees in the garden. I doubt that they'll ever bear fruit, but it is amazing that they've grown.

The carbon off set is a fake and just an excuse for taxing people more. What's particularly annoying is the taxes collected are wasted on vague projects such as the ones you describe Scott. It's our money and should remain in our pockets to spend as we want/need. That's my rant for the day

I went to Lisbon for a day trip last year, just to ride the old trams, and visit the Transport Museum, it was amazing what you can do in a day. I also did a day trip to Copenhagen, to visit Tivoli Gardens. Way cheaper than having to book hotels. No luggage either. Just hop on a plane and go on a foreign adventure! 😃

@yyyfffff33333 Early morning flights out and late evening flights back. Ryanair has several flights a day to Copenhagen from Stansted. And for Lisbon, I flew there early morning from Luton with Easyjet, flew back to Luton in the evening with Wizzair. If you book far enough ahead, you can find fairly cheap flights.

Frozen paella is very rare in Spain, you may find it in bigger supermarkets in the outskirts but not in the small city supermarkets. What most people buy is the paella content (frozen shrimp and vegetables) and then add that to the freshly made rice.

Paella is so easy to make from scratch Scott. Just remember to burn the bottom at the very end. The Spanish call it Socarrat. It imparts a beautiful smoky flavour.
@susanaescriba977
@susanaescriba977 6 күн бұрын
Be careful with the socarrat technique, as it may ruin any poor rice that may have been cooked. It is not easy. Neither is Paella nor Socarrat. If you make a mistake, you end up with a bland, overcooked rice, and then burnt. That is why there are many who complain about having eaten a bad Paella because it was not well cooked.
@salvadorcuerdavilella-rp6qz

Oh and a metro option to the city from the airport is L9 Sud to Zona Universitaria then L3 to Catalunya! If you're there for more than a day get a Hola Barcelona ticket as it covers the metro from the airport and then all the main transport in zone 1.

Barcelona is a great place, but as others have said, paella’s home is Valencia. Another great city with a good central market , Turia Garden following the former path of the river, futuristic City of Arts and Sciences ... For a change maybe , some local horchata with an amusingly named “farton” pastry ! I don’t feel you need to justify a quick day trip to Spain , as a man who’s endured 50 hours on a bus to Sofia...

My memories of Barcelona - a display of chicken's heads, (beaks and all), in that amazing food market, the wonderful beach which drops quite steeply a few yards from shore, my friend getting her bag stolen by one of the gangs who pretend to bump into you and, in the confusion, make off with your stuff.
