RE: Macaris Chip Shop Lou Macari has owned the Lou Macari Chip Shop" on Chester Road, near Old Trafford the home of the Manchesters second club since 1973. The chip shop was a gift for his widowed mother, the idea being that she would move to Manchester and run it. Sadly she died in tragic circumstances

It's a missed opportunity for Scotrail not to put on 1st Class carriage on the Queen Street/Fort William service during the summer. There's sufficient well-healed tourists who would upgrade to get an at-seat service.

About 30 Rail Enthusiasts on a 4 day Scottish Railtour needed to get from Hotels in Glasgow to Dumbarton early in the morning where our special train was starting from. We all booked via the scotrail app with reserved seats. The look on the coach attendant at 0540 as he saw us all on to the train at Platform 8 was a joy. Think the standard fare with railcard was about £3.50

Sleeper trains and fast trains in England is very expensive. The solution is to split up your trip with different tickets I was told. I've been on the Caledonian sleeper a few times, the height is the haggis meal. Then I visit my friend in Glasgow, Easterhouse. It is quite embarrasing, I do speak and understand english quite good, but his glasgowean scottish accent is really hard to understand, almost like Rab C Nesbitt. Scotland is a must to visit.

Scott, reference the Macari query and if it was an Italian thing, it certainly is. My father told me that in the last stages of WW2, he as part of his National Service, looked after Italian POW's at a camp somewhere North of Inverness. With the end of the War, these prisoners had the option to be returned home, or be given the chance to move to varied parts of Scotland, and join their fellow compatriots who'd emigrated to Scotland in the 1890's and into the 1900's and set up businesses, usually Ice Cream parlours. There were different families in different parts of Scotland. Ice Cream parlours often became cafe's, then developed into Restaurants. Eventually, there were moved into Fish and Chip shops. Other Italian families moved into the Fairground business and some of the big travelling funfairs which would travel each week from one town to another, were usually operated by one or two big families. Codona was one such family.

I travel all over the UK from the Scottish central belt to the south coast and the more I travel, the more I'm convinced that train operators continue more than ever to make the ticketing system even more complicated.
@iainjones5002 Жыл бұрын
I know someone who works in providing Ticketing Services systems for the Transport Industries, principally within Operations. He says the UK has the most complicated and expensive ticket formats in the whole of Europe, and just trying to remember all the convoluted regulations surrounding the most simple idea, is a nightmare. But some of the travel and ticket rules, date back from the age of Steam railways which are enshrined still to this day into modern day Rail operations and are likely never to be removed!
@DIEMLtdTV Жыл бұрын
@@iainjones5002 I totally agree. There are so many quirks and bizarre rules. The line really lacks much frequency considering the money maker Harry Potter stream trains 🚂 to/from Mallaig which are packed out solid. Would like to think if there was spare space in the Club Car that they would be keen to get as much money out of bar and food sales as possible 🤑 but no incentive to do it 😮
