That looks really freaky... almost like the turbulent atmosphere of Jupiter. And to think we lived within all that!
@Elarcis10 жыл бұрын
Side note : I find it interesting that we can see the effects of the day-night cycle on atmospheric fluids. It is the most obvious at 2:30 over Africa, with pulses of clouds bursting out in the sky :D

***** Close, that's actually South America! I agree, the way the daytime sun causes clouds to form is spectacular!
@Elarcis10 жыл бұрын
***** Oh, you're right, I didn't notice the view is rotated XD
@jasonofcompsci10 жыл бұрын
I think it is the night time causing the clouds and then the sun burning them off. Sun burns off fog.
@Elarcis10 жыл бұрын
jasonofcompsci Actually, the sun is causing vapor accumulated in the ground during the night to form into clouds, it doesn't "burn them off". Nights are much colder than days, so water just condensates on everything and "clouds on" when it gets hot, IMHO.

I like how darker colder patches drop back into the atmosphere, as we know cold air is heavier than warm.

this is spectacular to say the least... we wonder if there might be any interest in including it in a not for profit media art gallery show called "The Luminous Surface"?

What is that "pulsing" bright flash on the west coast of South America in southern Chile?
@tomprovan505 жыл бұрын
what is the time period ? One day? Does it change through the year? Can thought effect it? What does effect it? And where can a person get information on this? Is there a book to read? tkx
@jean-pierredevent9706 жыл бұрын
Without atmosphere I guess you could make a infrared image of the earth with false colors showing the ground temperature of every place but as you see here the ground is barely visible unless you could extract some information from the brief glimpses that come through??
@JPREEDY774 жыл бұрын
Do you have the timestamped version available? This is potentially a new study to undertake.
@thomaswalton98698 жыл бұрын
6.5 um is in the visible range. The images are in the infrared but not 6.5 um. The text in the video says that the dark parts of the images represents areas where water vapor absorbs IR radiation but this is not correct. The dark areas represent cold gasses in the upper atmosphere. The earth is not illuminated by an IR light. The earth shines in IR by virtue of the temperature of the tropopause. The dark areas are high elevation ice clouds.

No. The visible range is 0.40 microns (violet) to 0.76 microns (red). We cannot see 6.5

You can see the day night cycle in the repeated blooms, I suspect.

Is it just me, or does South America look like it's pulsating like a heart?
@chasegallagher975410 жыл бұрын
It is pulsating gasses.

How can you tell where south america is? Are you assuming the top is the north? I didnt read that
@carlhuffman38652 жыл бұрын
@@cjcummings8866 You can see the coastline of Chile in the bottom half of the image. So yeah, I think the pulsating heart is the Amazon rainforest.

why are there no stars in the background?

Stars make visible light, and like the sun, very little IR

Do you have a real video in infrared vs an animation of earth? This does not look real, as everyone knows the earth is flat.
