So the thumbnail is referring to the fact the sphinx used to look that but was eroded/damaged into what we see today, the original was based of one of the egyptian gods (I read up on this a while ago and don't the name off the top my head), I think it was Anubis

@vaszgul7366 жыл бұрын
Math, my friend. The same way we estimate how far away stars are without having anybody actually go out there with a ruler and try to measure it increment by increment. The same way we estimate the human population on earth despite the fact we absolutely do not have records of every person, nor know the true number of uncontacted tribes. I'm as curious as you are about what aspects they used in their guestimations but a lot of statistics are just guestimations based on available data. Sometimes they end up being way off.
@Nvcturnal6 жыл бұрын
They do it by Dna of animals we know about and then cross reference to how animals are related to each other and then how many other species must exist since a lot of missing links are between certain species. Extinct species also play a role, even though it's also estimated we haven't nearly discovered even half of all extinct species via fossils. The estimation, especially for marine life and small insect life, is actually probably highly accurate. Evolution and Math are basically how they determine it. What they don't take into consideration, but what this video does mention (props to them btw), is how some species will go extinct before we ever even know about them. If there is a hole in their estimations, this would be the biggest cause of it because it takes all other data they used to determine missing links between species and pretty much flushes it down the toilet. If a species we didn't know about goes extinct right now, we may never know about until it fossilizes which will be millions of years from now. By then any species it was directly related to will also be extinct LOL.

Original Safety Pin Lures - So "scientific" estimates like "undiscovered" species are basically BS? Is that what it takes to get grants (government handouts)?
@algrayson89656 жыл бұрын
Original Safety Pin Lures - If a dead organism doesn't get deep frozen or fossilized pretty quickly it will be gobbled up by a living organism. No way a dead thing is going to lie around for millions of years awaiting fossilization.

Speaking of Mauna Kea, Jordan Romero climbed all eight of the Seven Summits (there are debates over the summit in Australia) by the time he was 15. He started when he was 9 or 10 years old, his inspiration being a mural of the Seven Summits in his school. He started with the summit of Africa (Kilauea I think) and ended with the summit of Antarctica (Vinson). He wrote a book (accompanied by Linda LeBlanc) that’s called “No Summit Out Of Sight”. I suggest you read it. It’s a great book.

1:57 That doesn't seem like a fair measuring contest. That's like saying the 4'2" guy is the tallest in class because he wears 3' long swim fins all the time (despite how absurd logistically that would be). Have they at all taken into account the bits of the other mountains that dip below sea level at least? At what point do you decide a mountain "starts", since you could declare it starts subterranean if you want to go about changing the measuring stick.

Casie Bluez3 did not know that about Mauna Kea. Very interesting. But it could also possibly be untrue just as part of Mauna Kea is submerged there could be huge mountains in the ocean we don’t even know about.

Sadly, the real issue here isn't the thumbnail. The real issue is that they have the wrong explanation for the Aurorae. They're actually caused by solar radiation being rebuffed and PREVENTED from entering the atmosphere by the points at the magnetic poles closest to the surface of the earth. This causes a visible reaction as they get funneled away like a river in its banks.

There is no way an Etruscan shrew would weigh 1.8 pounds. There is also no way that 1.8 pounds is the lightest mammal. As I recall that shrew weighs 1.8 grams on average. How do you put a video together like this, or even say something like that?

I live in Kuwait and the temperature here easily reaches 60 Degrees Celsius on an average mid summer day. However we did experience hotter temperatures during summers passed, reaching way over those numbers. The government however does not record these findings because our laws prevent work above 49 Degrees Celsius. So basically, Kuwait should stop working for months before the temperatures could be low/safe enough to start working again. Hence why it is "Always 49 Celsius in Kuwait according to the government. Problem Solved. P.S Higher temperatures provide more oil production. No one is complaining. But, It is deadly hot in here.

For that first and second ones, don't be racist! You left out Kelvin! Celsius and Fahrenheit aren't the only measures of temperature? Oh yeah, by the way, about geomagnetic reversal - If a powerful enough solar flare hit us in the time period during the poles actually reversing, then it could be doomsday. During the "Laschamp event", which wasn't even complete reversal, just a geomagnetic excursion, the magnetic field of the Earth, which is what protects us against solar flares, with the main dangers being the heat and radiation, lessened to only 5% of its normal strength. If a powerful enough solar flare hit us when the magnetic field's strength was that low, most of us would probably die, if not all of us. Fun! By the way - Everyone knows about the Mariana Trench! Why's that on here? A lot of people also know about how dry Antarctica as. Anyone with any sense of logic would know about the Aurora Australis, surely. All you need to do is know why the Northern Lights appear, then a simple leap of logic would make you realise the same *has* to happen in the south, or something really weird would be going on... Like broken physics. This is not a very good list. Personally, I knew all of these, but I'm a nerd... Still, I think a lot of people would surely know most of them. Where's the goddamn Sphinx!?
