Seventeen's title tracks still feel very Seventeen to me, but you can definitely hear the HYBE influence in their releases after Fear. It's probably why a lot of people seemed to like their Japanese title tracks more than their Korean title tracks for 2020, because their Japanese tracks haven't had that HYBE influence, not yet at least.
@guadalupemontoya18192 жыл бұрын
I totally see that HYBE influence. Their songs aren’t bad, but the HYBE concepts are so rigid that it takes away the excitement you used to get with Seventeen songs. Even with the strict staying on concept, I can still clearly identify it as a Seventeen because you can always hear those parts of the song that just sound/feel SEVENTEEN.
@user-in8xy8wd5b2 жыл бұрын
@@guadalupemontoya1819 sometimes I feel bad for them, I think the old collaboration between Woozi Bumzu Prism etc got interfered by Hybe a lot for now. @hollyz242 жыл бұрын
omg yes i agree.. rock with you may not be the most experimental or unique but there is something about it that hits so incredibly hard, maybe emotionally for me. absolute favorite seventeen song personally!! also, i’d agree with the astro one to a certain extent! i absolutely love astro’s first songs like breathless, baby, crazy sexy cool. but i actually also love their sound change to the more angelic sound- all night, knock, blue flame. i personally think that sound suits astro so incredibly well and some of their best songs came from that angelic sound! but i feel like since one, i’ve been slowly losing interest. i feel like they’re branching out so much more with their sound with after midnight being kind of retro and one being kind of dark, which ofc isn’t bad to do, but those tracks haven’t hit as hard as their bright/cute or their angelic/magical tracks. so basically i think their first sound change was good, second not so much.

@dekmini40072 жыл бұрын
If you define the "bad" sound as lack of originality and identity, I disagree with the Seventeen one. I've been a Carat since Mansae era (when the name Carat didnt even exist) and Seventeen still have their identity. What attract me to SVT is that they grow older with their fans. We can see around debut - 2018 they kept the fresh teenagers era (they literally have an album named Teen:Age). BUUUT in the end of 2018, when Dino--the maknae of Seventeen--would turn 20 or became adult, they introduced Getting Closer, the first kinda dark (almost) title song of SVT. I take this as "hey dude welcome to our mature era". And from 2019 till now we can see SVT as they are: adulting. The concept change is not that sudden. They wait for their maknae to be adult to change the concept gradually. About the sound, as long as Woozi and Bumzu are assigned as the main producers, SVT is still SVT. They tend to explore various genres in music so listening to SVT's title tracks might cause mood swings lol. Woozi loves to use anti-drop and percussion-less prechorus with harmony in their songs and i take this as their identity. The difference is before-after acquisition, like Woozi-Bumzu got chances to collaborate with various producers around the world to produce their songs and I admit it did make them sounds different. You mentioned about "follow the trend" as the change when 2017's Dont Wanna Cry was literally the most trendy sound SVT ever produced and 2020's Home;run was the only broadway concept in Kpop around that era. But yup i will take this video as the point of view of general people. Just want to clarify some points here so you'll know that the change is there for the reason.

what did you think of their new title track HOT?
@vanillasugarkookies58302 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with some of your points as a carat as well. But disagree on some. Ever since debut, Seventeen has always talked about bringing fresh music to the kpop scene that's why they stuck to the concept and that's what made them grow because they were different. It's one of the reasons I became a carat instantly. Of course that doesn't mean their songs are not as good as before, their songs are still good but I miss a lot of songs where they're more playful and will just have fun with it. fear had snap shoot as a bside that they also promoted showing that they arent done with the more bright n fresh feel theyve gone in their early years heng:garae (left and right) and semicolon (home run) as whole albums just have good energy as a whole + the lyrics r very seventeen-like...id argue that those title tracks actually have svt's energy still, showing kind of like clap's energy, but theyre just trying out new genres. semicolon also has "hey buddy" which ppl say is "aju nice but for friends" the drastic change came with ready to love which had more producers work on it, but essentially it's still seventeen dunno why it's so looked down upon if they're deviating from their old sound cos their old music is Still there. it's never going to go away. they still perform their old music in concerts. it was their youth. svt acknowledge that era of music still. they want to be known for their versatility as a team and not just for that one genre/concept they were known for...like i doubt that they wont ever release anything fresh or bright ever again, darling literally has that sound if you think about it

Literally????? Any Fear-anti is no friend of mine I might not absolutely LOVE some of their recent title tracks as much as I L O V E a lot of their older ones (which is fine! I still do *like* them! and not every comeback will be everyone's favorite! They are still putting out *plenty* of good music) But I cannot believe anyone would lump Fear in and call it a bad sound change when the Fear + Snapshoot promotion combo is literally one of the *most iconic* title track/b-side pairings anyone has *ever* promoted with in the history of k-pop!!!! (imho... 👀) Like??? People really need to put some respect on Snap Shoot's name And Fear too for that matter!!!! Unbelievable...

I've never understood people that say Seventeen changed. To me they are one of the most consistent group through the years. Of course they've changed a little, they've matured and everything. But to me they still sound like Seventeen. They stayed true to their essence. I guess like everybody I was affraid when Pledis went under Hybe. But they showed me I had nothing to worry about. Their recent releases still scream "SEVENTEEN" to me. ^^ So yeah, it always confuses me. When I see people say "Seventeen changed" I'm like "then other groups totally metamorphosed". 😂😂

Mine is GFRIEND's 'sound' (it was more of a concept change) change from Navillera to Fingertip. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Fingertip, it's an amazing song. However they basically did something simmiliar to Weeekly. They threw away their general public support and lost abit of momentum. They were still very successful but I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Love Whisper was released after Navillera.

...I think the relevant TBZ concept change in their history as a group is between the DDD (bright, boyish concepts since debut with Boy, Giddy Up, Right Here, Bloom Bloom) and Reveal (darker, more mature going into their RTK/KD concepts, The Stealer, Maverick) eras. If anything, yeah your opinions about the Japanese titles hold up but their sound there have generally been consistent in terms of vibes. Like I get where you're coming from with the critique and it's valid, but I just think the opinion is a bit misplaced/not that appropriate contextually in terms of the video.

For me. I think the best concept changes is definitely NCT DREAM’s. As they debuted at a young age, their concept also grows with them? Like Chewing gum represents Childhood, then MFAL represents adolescence, GO represents puberty (rebellious part of life), then BOOM represents adulthood and maturity and now theyre at that stage where they can experiment with different types of concepts but still manage to keep their “Dream” image. Personally, I think Nct Dream’s discography is one of the most versatile and best in KPOP!!

As a deobi, I agree with what you said about Japanese release, although I still think Tattoo is a total bop. But i don't really see Revel as an older concept 😅 I think, as other have commented, DDD, Right Here and Giddy Up are better examples, and I see Reveal and even Maverick as them experimenting rather than a sound change, and The Stealer and Thrill Ride as an evolution from their young, fun and charismatic sound. Ok as a carat I am trying hard not to be biased so I apologize here if I do sound slightly biased While I do respect that everyone has a preference in taste, to say that "svt is bad" in their change is...silly to me(?) I don't see anything jarring in their change or sound. You mention them taking trends as if it is a bad thing? Like idk, maybe it's because I'm open to artist exploring their style. Seventeen (in this case woozi as he is the main producer for the group) is allowed to take trends and make twists on them. That's great, that is growing yourself as an artist, if anything if they stuck to their "old" sound I don't think they would have went far. Also can we stop acting like taking on trends is technically bad? Svt doing a rock type concept with RWY isn't bad, like if anything yes let people hear rock more! They are still doing good imo, they are still making music they enjoy and such so their signature isn't lost there. I think it's not ok to say svts change as "bad" when it mainly probably is you just not bopping to their current stuff which is perfectly fine BUT to call it bad when nothing felt forced in their comebacks sound wise is just...weird to me? I have seen this since fear and see it now, it's a matter of if you like the song or not that's all but that's just my two cents

Seventeen is group that doesn't really have a built-in concept like other groups. Their concept will always depend on their comeback album themes. If seventeen really follows trend then it will be a dark era every comeback like other kpop groups but no seventeen sticks to their kind of musicality. I disagree with you on svt tho, I think they’re different from Astro because they’ve almost exclusively stuck to bright, warm, or upbeat title tracks (with the exception of fear). I think that semicolon and henggarae were throwbacks to their earlier work. The thing is they can’t stay that way, sure it can be soemthing they revisit but not their exclusive sound. I have really enjoyed their sound change and new vibe they’ve transitioned to. Svt hasn’t had just one sound change but multiple ones. Early was sweet and bright (mansae pretty u), then it was hype songs (clap and boom boom), then a more electronic sound (thanks, home, and don’t wanna cry) to the more recent blend of synth pop and the concept choices (ready to love, home run, and left and right). I think they’ve made a lot of growth choices and are versatile enough to pull it off and make it their own.

I think as a fan you should have remembered that before Oh My! Seventeen had Thanks (EDM), Clap, DWC (EDM), and BB so it's not fair to say that they have always had a fresh sound since their debut because that's a lie (even their bsides have never been all fresh songs, maybe only director's cut at that point). Seventeen has never shied away from trying different sounds, they know they are known for "fresh" songs but that has never stopped them from trying completely different things. After listening to some parts of your opinion, I think I had a pretty similar experience throughout DWC era to Thanks era. I am a huge fresh teen lover so listening to them putting out some EDM songs was so awful to me, I was like "Just go back to fresh songs". I was so focused on not liking the genre of the title track that I only paid little attention to the other songs. But that was not something on the group, that was something on me alone. I recently thought about myself at that time and I laughed so hard, I was so young but my feelings were hurt by the change they were making (I do not think your experience is the same, just similar) I don't want to make a long comment, So I will keep it short. I think that maybe you should try to take a break from the group. (Do not think of the songs as "seventeen songs" just ask yourself if you like a song for the song itself, that was what worked for me. I thought "It´s clap a perfect uplifting song"? Yes, "¿does it sound like the Seventeen I know?" No, at that time they had never had something like that but that was a new Seventeen.)
