There were so many great things about PS1 - I was able to play and contribute massively, even though I was not that good at twitch playing. I could lay mines, set turrets, heal, repair, etc. There was just a place for all types of players. And I loved the voice commands and how easy they were: "Warning, sniper!", "I'm better than you.", "Excuse me, can you move?", "Not good, but it happened."

I had a random moment earlier today where I had to stop what I was doing because PS1 music popped into my head. Nostalgia is such a bittersweet feeling. It was a good time to be alive and involved in the game. Yet now that it's only a memory, it makes me feel kinda somber. The music is still just as outstanding as I remembered it. This music makes me feel back at home when I was in highschool, where I couldn't wait to finish my chores and play all weekend. PlanetSide deserves to be remastered! Same music, same voice emotes. How PS2 missed the chance to add looting, hacking vehicles, neutralizing bases with gen rooms, air dropping ANTs, and LLU captures, etc etc... makes me sad. PSForever!

The soundtrack made half the game, let's be honest. It was already on top of such an amazing experience that will most likely never be redone in any capacity. Glad I got to have most of my game time before the BFRs. When as ONE person, you could turn the tide of battle. Get a squad or platoon of like-minded individuals, and it was all over. Until of course, you went up to opposition of the same kind. Then the endless near-stalemate battles that went for hours, shoving back and forth, until finally it broke, and then the chase was onto the next base. Just hot-dropping next to a tower full of goons in full swing was an adrenaline rush. I never white-knuckled through a game with such a shit-eating grin for so long in my life. Most of us back then were TacOps, CounterStrike, GlobalOps or BF players. Once PS1 came out, we took a good 2 year hiatus from them completely. Gaming was never the same. Probably never will be. AAA titles kill innovation and having a loyal base longer than 6 months is almost unheard of now.

I remember being incredibly frustrated a lot of the time by the way most people didn't seem to want to organize and take part in the hard-hitting strikes that actually won battles. But I absolutely lived for those moments when my outfit was on and doing just that in expert fashion. So many good memories.

Considering the age, and the crappy speed of both internet connections and PCs CPU/Vid Cards it was an absolute MARVEL of a game, 150 a side 3 way fights over such small areas and it ran overall so smoothly. Hell 20% of the player base was on Dialup even. The devs outdid themselves more so than any other game I played until PS2, but they are missing some of the cooler things. Stealing equipment from the enemy, Back-Hacking bases, stealing vehicles, proper artillery, Slide lines in the caves, vehicle drops. And the Music is just so... gah I love this! so many hours of fighting non stop in the flaming pit. Slowly moving across the dank hot waste of fire and ash. Choking on the burning remains of your enemies. Snipers on the volcano rim. Destructive amounts of AA drowing the inexperienced pilots in fiery wreckage. Every step fought for takes you one step closer to leaving that hellish ring of battle. Suffocating from non stop wave after wave of tanks and low flying aircraft... Searhus... How I miss you.

Not even half of the memories like PS1, though. They never quite expanded PS2 to have the same meta-warfare and comradery that spawned out of PS1. It was too Battlefield-like and missed the flavor and charm that made Planetside such a unique experience. Shit, they're only just now starting testing for Oshur 10 years after the first beta for PS2. It's funny, they always talked about how PS1 was so ahead of it's time and then their next project turned out the same way. If they just repackaged PS1 into a modern formula, the game would've been a hit.... they just *had* to ride the Battefield 3 train, however and create a game without much personality or flavor beyond endless shooting. A very short sighted and greedy decision on $OE's part and it ultimately killed this game. It's fun for a bit, but you need real objectives like PS1 had. ANT's in PS1 are one of the best examples of critical, nailbiting gameplay that I've ever seen and hundreds of players are involved. It's nothing short of epic and we were lucky to experience it.

Missing a few tracks, every empire had a Sanctuary, Orbital Platform (HART terminal), SOI Normal, SOI Combat (NC was similar to a combat soundtrack) and an SOI Warning (gen, hack). The TR Sanc is the TR SOI Normal. It was nice to hear some of the unused tracks like Homeland and my favorite Temperate Cavern Ambient.

planetside 1 > 2 gameplay

First week as a Gal pilot, flying out of Sanc and to the first base. The sky was blackened with clouds of TR Gals sending full drop teams into a hot zone that we would fight over for the next 2 hours. Full TR tanks roll into the battle from the gate to the base in twos. Looking down at them it seemed you could jump from tank to tank to get to the target base from the gate and never touch the ground. My first few runs at high altitude put some teams into the fight, but HQ ordered us to the gate to pick up some ANTs. Once the base power fails, we can finally push the VS out, but we can't hold it unless we get power to it. My outfit spent time training us Gal pilots for ANT drops from high altitude. This was my time to shine. We lost 2 gals on the way in to fighters. Our escorts dispersed the rest that were that high up. I dropped that ANT right on target. Right in front of the Gen. Great teamwork! Everyone played their rolls. Planetside is one of a kind.

For me ps1 ost is some of the best music to have ever been composed in the video game industry, elder scrolls series. Close 2nd. Travel temperate whilst playing completely submerged me within the game it was amazing. The only downside is it reminds me of how much I miss ps1 :(

Togomode _ Yeah, this list, much like Ferrone's own website, seems pretty jumbled. Some new tracks are actually renamed old ones (TR Sanct), and several other tracks are completely missing. (half the continent combats, most SOI tracks) Not sure if this is an oversight, intentional or actually how the game is/was now, as I haven't played Planetside 1 since long before the 'NEW' remastered tracks were added.

PlanetSide1 is officially shut down. It was free for some time with the Core Combat DLC switched off (the most important DLC with caves, etc), and then they shut down the server forever. But players have parced the whole shit and then reverse engineered the game, which is now LIVE and KICCKING!!!
