Setting up your electric fence requires some careful planning. In this video from Zareba® Systems, we’ll go over the key initial steps and tools needed for fence installation.
To begin, you will have to set up fence posts, which will require some digging. Before doing any excavation, check with local utility companies for any buried lines or underground hazards on the property.
Next, develop a rough plan for your fence layout and make a list of the materials you will need to construct an electric fence.
Also, gather the specialty tools you will need for fence construction. A post-hole digger or post-driver attachment for your farm vehicle will be needed if you’re beginning a totally new fence. A spinning jenny will ensure you get a smooth and easy payout of wire. A tensioning tool will help you draw off slack in your lines. A fence wire cutter designed exclusively for steel or aluminum wire is also helpful. Finally, a crimping tool is necessary to squeeze crimping sleeves tight when joining wires.
As with any building project, don’t forget safety gloves, goggles and steel-toed shoes. Hearing protection is also vital when working with heavy machinery.
