In your floor plan, the rooms actually lie along a central horizontal axis. That means you can probably make the front exterior and back exterior walls open up to reveal all of the rooms. Also, since the movie house sits on top of a small hill, you can definitely set your house on top of another set of rooms for the underworld.

I'd LOVE :) to see the hill, but I guess you'd have to shorten the table legs, which would be really great too. Finishing everything, then taking a hacksaw to the table legs! So fun. Otherwise, everything would be a bit too high to view ...

@@BentleyHouseMinis Yeeeees! I am so excited for this series! Beetlejuice is my favourite movie and I've played with the floorplan in my head for years and it's so great watching you bring it to life. I think your office and master bedroom need swapping. In the movie Delia and Otho start their tour in the bedroom at the top of the stairs (Lydia's room) then they walk through a bathroom into another bedroom which has the closet with face ripping Babs (Which I would assume would be the master bedroom), then they move onto the office. I'm going to rewatch the movie now to check for any other clues. I loved your attention to detail in your Addams house and how methodical you are in your work. I know you're going to do my fave movie justice.

You should get a (slightly larger!) table from a thrift store, and cut a hole in it so that the underworld can be built on the underside :) Maybe even make it so that the underworld doesn’t show at first, but can be revealed as a surprise? A table cloth is maybe too obvious, but something in that direction? And just imagine the lights and the atmosphere you can create under there :D Hugs from Norway! :)

@@BentleyHouseMinis I came to say "I would build the underworld hanging down from the underside of the table (maybe even upside down? that way you could really get under and see all the detail)" but I don't see a need to cut the table if you're just making a portal. I would just do a sticker portal that applies to the top of the table and suggests the transit to the underworld below.
@recoveringsoul755
@recoveringsoul755 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking under the table as well. Not sure if you could make walls out of plexiglass or not, or two way mirrors, just to see in without cutting holes. So it looks like a wall until you turn the lights on inside and then you can see inside? You still probably want access. Either way, it's going to huge, my goodness

Suggestion regarding doll's house" access. Leave open walls selectively by room depending on importance of actions to take place, including "ignoring" the open wall while decorating. For instance, in my project all of the fireplaces in the original house were on what are now the open/access walls. That has not stopped me from placing the fireplaces (and some bathtubs, etc.) where they should be, but without an actual wall in the way. In theatre we referred to this as the fourth wall/breaking the fourth wall. Pretend the wall is there, even dangle a picture frame from the ceiling over the mantle if its important............ You could also build a 32" sq base for UNDER the house, again creating selective access/viewing openings enabling you to create multiple scenes. I think that "having" to circle the project to see other portions of the entirety may be part of the ethos and charm of this particular build. Fitting stairs...yeah, authenticity is nice, but a little narrower and a little steeper than actual is not out of the question when going mini - 2" wide is not too visually different than 3" wide in small scale. You can even purchase pre-made mini stairs in 2' width. I probably have a thousand (okay, half a dozen) other suggestions based on my experience with my Grand Obsession, but I'm outta time this am......................................will take the time to stress, as you did, the importance of a 3d model before embarking on actual building. I discovered this when i realized that every one of my mini occupants would need wings to access a bathroom, as the doors all opened into the voids over staircases. THAT was not authentic and just looked plain stupid - as stupid as I felt.......................

This is so exciting. I too have been planning a beetle juice house. I find that the interior is so confusing, even the exterior. I lov the way you have been solving the issues. I have read that some of the rooms don’t fit caz they were just sets and were not accurate to the house floor plan . So there is a lot of room for just reimagining the space. Can’t wait to seE how you solve the issue of what rooms to open up to play in. I have enjoyed your channel so much. My granddaughters were in my quarantine bubble so when you were doing the cardboard house we were also very inspired and did a fairy cardboard house. Thank you so much for the inspiration and the fun it took us about six weeks to complete since I only saw them on weekends. They like myself are total beetle juice fans and have been asking why don’t we do a beetle juice house? So now you have given my inspiration to maybe move forward after I finish up some other project!

This looks like a great project. You are so talented. When I was a kid was fascinated by this house. I built several models and still have the best one I made today. Haha, thirty years later. As far as I can see you've got the floorplan pretty good. Only issue that stood out to me is that the staircase landing pretty much follows the square area of the tower. You've got it going into the next room which was where the study was. It curls three times, once at the top where Lydia's bedroom door is, then again it turns outside the hall that leads down to the master bedroom, then the third time where an external window is. From that point it goes back up into the tower (now an enclosed staircase) and takes you up to the attic (still inside the tower). Up in the attic there is a raised sort of square platform which makes the third floor of the tower, and characters step down into a long dormer-shaped attic room which runs the length of the house from the tower to the chimney, where Adam has his model. Hope that makes sense. I could draw you a quick sketch if you wanted. Although I get that you have to use artistic license sometimes. What a pity though, to miss out Delia's 'Indoor Outhouse' Haha.
@BentleyHouseMinis

I had a feeling that the stair case was supposed to be in the tower but i couldn't work out how they got to it. If you do feel like sketching it out and sending it to me I think it will help me a lot. I don't know if I will be able to change it because I am still fitting everything into a shell but it would be great to see it!

Loving it, and really like the hinged wall idea. Like the front opening dollhouses so popular in the UK. If you had two, maybe on different floors, on opposite sides, that would give a great view of all the rooms, in theory. Use the angles of view to their best advantage. This way, you can hinge the plainer exterior ones and avoid damaging delicate exterior details. You can always decorate those hinged doors, so that when they are closed and you look from the other side, they complete their room and look seamless. Hope that makes sense. Then maybe the roof flips up for an overhead view of the attic room, and no hinged walls. Would really give the best view of the model in the attic too! No matter what you choose, I have no doubt you are gonna rock this!!!!

As far as openings go, if you figure out what the most iconic scenes show in each room, that might help to figure out the openings. Sort of a variation of the 4th wall. I love your workbook. I am actually working on refurbishing some flea market finds and the floorplans help me figure out things like adding stairs and even an attic flor in one case. Seems like generally at least with the first floor they kept a somewhat practical layout that complimented the exterior. You can view the town they used to film in today and there is only a faint outline of where the pathway/driveway area was leading up to hills where the house was.

I wish I could sit and sketch with you!! I have some thoughts about the curved landing and stairs, and how it would lead into the master bedroom area.........I feel like the master bedroom is adjacent to Lydia’s room, because she bangs on the wall across from her bed when she hears the moaning.......so that would put the study area toward the front of the house at the far end of the landing.....and the curve of the landing is different *I* think......... This is so exciting to see the whole process! Thank you for sharing it!

Everything thing looks good. You may be able to cut large viewing windows in walls and roof. So you still have the structure and stability while being able to view the inside. As for the bathroom, just the illusion of one may work. The basement of Addams house comes to mind for the underworld, using sliding doors to keep hidden until you want people to see may work. I can totally see how building from 3d model helps. That is where I went wrong when I tried to build my childhood home. Hope oneday I get the chance to try again😊 You asked who gets the Harry Potter booknook when its done. It was a birthday gift to me from my daughter. Part of the gift was a visit so we could work on it together. It had been 10 years or more when she was a young teen the last time we worked on anything together. Will post a picture when done. I will keep the booknook but I am sure she will have it one day. Thanks for the video it was awesome. Lookig forward to how the project progresses ❤️

Wow! Can’t wait to see the house in its final form! Just a random idea: if you decide to create the underworld, then you could probably make it broaden to the top, so that the house has more space to sit on than the actual table size

I'm really excited about this project, Ara. I'm so glad we get to watch your whole process, and listen to you make silly noises at the end! Seriously, though, this is going to be great. I think it's really important to allow oneself to decide how closely to reproduce something, and it's great to hear your reasoning. Can't wait for more! Beetlejuice is one of my 10 favourite movies.

I always thought that Charles study was in the front tower because of the windows behind his desk. Also there's a scene where Lydia thinks her parents are being a "little noisy in the bedroom" that takes place at the top of the stairs. I also imagine that her parents would insist on their own bathroom with Delia being all snooty at first. Anyway so excited to see your interpretation!

This was really amazing to see how you figure this out and build a model. This is a difficult subject to tackle. If you really want to make a bathroom, one movie with vampires and a bathtub scene is The Lost Boys. Plus the single mom moved in with her father and he is into taxidermy, so there are stuffed creatures all over the place. Or...you know... Psycho and the shower scene

I made a dollhouse of a Sears Kit House and this is how I addressed the access problem. Each room had an access wall. Through that open wall I could not see the access wall of another room on that floor. All that access walls were on the two sides and the back. The front did not have any access walls. Access walls were open and not covered by hinged door or the like. My first floor was basically the same as yours, in layout. My access wall were 1. where your fireplace is; 2.the sculpture wall; 3. the tower wall of the kitchen. This is just an example for consideration, of course, since those walls, in your design are important.
