The story about Vlad Tepes inviting people to a great feast for free and than burning them alive is not about gypsies, it's about all the beggars and thieves, regardless of their origins. One fact about Vlad and the gypsies is that he offered them freedom in exchange for service in the military, which they happily accepted and created their own regiment with the crow mounted on a pole as their symbol. Upon first contact with the janissaries they instantly broke though, hence the popular saying: brave like a crow on a stick (when you're calling someone a coward).

I'm Roma. i have never in my life met a Roma who wanted a nation of our own. we aren't a single people. that would be like a nation of all native peoples of the Americas - a super silly idea - each tribe has its own culture and even ethnicity. this entire idea is a concoction of European leaders trying to get rid of us, not our own idea. and Israel? Egypt? those are also not our ideas. also Europeans trying to get rid of us. in reality, our origin is a vanity fact - something nice to know, but has little to no impact on our contemporary cultures or lives. there might have been historical support by SOME Roma for these silly ideas (e.g. the ones becoming "kings"). but absolutely not a large portion 😁 we migrate to find a home where we can feel safe. and we continue migrating because there are very few places where we find safety.

Because Roma aren't as heavily discriminated against here as in Europe. Most Americans don't even know Roma exist, so when u tell someone ur Roma they are interested and think it's cool. Roma Americans are able to get jobs without worrying about their race being a factor if they get the job or not, unlike Europe. It's almost as if Roma were treated like human beings then they would be able to thrive. Europe hasn't gotten to hang of that yet. The problem is poverty and education, their birth rates go sky high mostly because they're living in poverty. The "King of the Gypsies" is a silly concept, many random Romani have claimed the title "King of the Gypsies", often to deal with an immediate threat by outsiders, they don't correspond to any "monarchy" we would recognize. And a country for the Romani is problematic - many Romani don't WANT a homeland, they embrace nomadic life. Morris Berman's "Wandering God" claims, among other things, that nomadic living is more often ideological choice rather than an economic necessity, and most modern nomadic societies began as countercultural movements that adopted travelling as a rejection of the social order (and to avoid government control). Thus they are feared and hated by governments (and publics) that can't track and control them.

This is very interesting. Here is what Wikipedia says about Romani in the USA: It is estimated that there are one million Romani people in the United States, occasionally known as American Gypsies. Though the Romani population in the United States has largely assimilated into American society, the largest concentrations are in Southern California, the Pacific Northwest, Texas, Florida and the Northeast as well as in cities such as Chicago and St. Louis.[1][4] The largest wave of Romani immigrants came from the Balkan region in the late 19th century following the abolition of Romani slavery in 1864,[1] which occurred as the Ottoman Empire was weakening. Romani immigration to the United States has continued at a steady rate ever since, with an increase of Romani immigration occurring in the late 20th century following the collapse of communism in Central and Eastern Europe.[1] The size of the Romani American population and the absence of a historical and cultural presence, such as the Romani have in Europe, make Americans largely unaware of the existence of the Romani as a people.[1] The term's lack of significance within the United States prevents many Romani from using the term around non-Romani: identifying themselves by nationality rather than heritage.[5]

The second-wave of Asian migration to America is a bit wayward if I grasp it correctly. The premise is that thousands of years after Central Asians followed megafauna across the Bering Strait to North America a more traditionally East Asian population were pressured to cross the Bering Straits. But when these migrants arrived on the new continent, the already settled Native Americans did not permit them to travel much south of the Arctic Circle and thus they were trapped in the Arctic Circle, in which time they adapted to some of the most extreme weather imaginable. I’ve got to imagine that when those East Asians decides to migrate they weren’t planning on settling for the Arctic Circle.

I mean a Romani state isn't unheard of like I can name a people group in the USA who have their own independent rules and council and at one point were semi independent due to persecution of their people (cough cough Mormons) for they call the head of the religion the President of the Mormon's and almost became a buffer state name deseret. The people even tried to make a origin story saying the indigious people of America was a lost tribe of Israel who was punished, and their founder was lead to golden tablets where this lost tribe buried their rituals and stories. (I learned this through my grandfather and an attempted conversion by the California Mormon church)

Genetic links to India. The primary branch H1 (H-M69) and its subclades is one of the most predominant haplogroups amongst populations in South Asia, particularly its descendant H1a1 (M52). A primary branch of H-M52, H1a1a (H-M82), is found commonly among the Romani people, who originated in South Asia and migrated into the Middle East and Europe, around the beginning of the 2nd millennium CE and theKhmer people who got under influence from Indian populations.[2] The much rarer primary branch H3 (Z5857) is also concentrated in South Asia.

I’ve actually always wondered if there was a Romani equivalent to Zionism. I’ve heard people say that the Roma are proud of their nomadic and others say it’s just a stereotype I also say Roma and Romani because many of them find the term “Gypsy” extremely offensive. It goes to show the level of systemic racism towards Romani peoples in Europe.

The nation of Romani has been largely based in the city of Roma, and have long since disappeared. One of their surviving descendant nation today lives in Romani-a - the land of Romani; or properly translated to English land of Romans. Roma - Rome; Romani - Latin plural form for romans; the Roma - gypsy name for Gypsy people This naming is linguistically and historically painful, and more so deceptive ..
