Homemade almond milk is so easy and you control what goes in it. Soak the almonds overnight, blend, and strain. Yes, the straining can be a bit messy but it’s a good trade off to know what you’re getting. You can add a touch of vanilla and a pinch of salt. I don’t add any sweetener.

@@thebestthingthatneverhappe6729 I've never made almond mik at home but I have soaked 4 to 5 nuts overnight in a container with lid then in the morning I drain the liquid, chop the nuts into small pieces incorporate into pancakes. I'm assuming what's needed for almond milk will give you more nut-meal however keeping them refrigerated and adding them into oatmeal, engery bars, pancakes might be your best bet.

So, if I may, I have a challenge for you. Can you do a shopping haul for the a weeks worth of food to feed a family of 3 for $150 with all the things you suggest and approve of? And actually ij live in Alaska so my groceries are probably a little bit more expensive than the lower 48...so let's say for $125? I'd be interested in seeing those tips and tricks because all that stuff is anywhere from 2x- even up to 10x more expensive than the cheap options..

I remember watching how almond milk is made and realizing that there's less than four almonds in a liter of almond milk. I just started making my own. I go grab some 20 almonds off the tree, add a little water, some honey, cinnamon, and a little bit of vanilla and usually wind up having to add another half a liter. Not only does it have much more protein, it's organic, and I don't have to have any stabilizers in the milk. Because I don't strain the almonds out of the milk it has much more fiber as well. Or you can strain it using a cheesecloth and use the almond flour for baking. Oh, sometimes I add four to eight dates, it depends if I'm making a gallon or half a gallon of milk. The dates add the sweetness of course but they also add more fiber if you need more fiber.

The recommended milk alternatives here are also the most expensive. No one buys the Malk brand because it’s twice the price of competitor brands with half the amount of milk
@happybunny892
@happybunny892 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, that's the state of the food industry - they make it so that healthier choices are a luxury few people can afford on a regular basis! The reason that, for example, Malk Almond Milk (and Three Trees, and the others) is more expensive than some of the other almond milk brands is that it contains significantly more almonds (which, if you've priced them lately, you know are expensive in and of themselves) than the others, and has no filler ingredients. The cheaper options typically use the bare minimum of almonds required to be able to call themselves "almond milk," then make up the rest with cheaper gums/thickeners/fillers (which aren't great for gut health, and tend to be very processed) and sugar and a bunch of chemical flavorings to mask the taste of those fillers, etc. You can see this in the nutrition labels - the Malk, etc. have significantly more protein per serving (not to mention significantly fewer ingredients and lab-created chemicals) than the cheaper brands. So while the Malk, etc. are more expensive per serving, they're also a significantly better value from a health, protein content, etc. perspective. It sucks, but that's the situation we're in.

Basically I buy fruit and veggies and protein lol I read EVERY label and if it has any sunflower, safflower, rapeseed, or canola I don’t buy it. Same with other things. That’s pretty much 99% of what’s in the store that’s in a package Lol. Save money in the long run though because you don’t really buy snacks or fillers.

I don't know if he has any credentials (I suspect he probably doesn't), but this information is pretty widely available from a whole host of medical/nutritional/etc. scientific journals and various controlled studies. Also, a lot of it is just common sense. The world has become really complicated, and we've unfortunately started looking at food as being complicated too, but it really isn't - obviously whole, minimally-processed food that isn't doused in toxic chemical pesticides is better for us than the alternative.

There’s a reason why real fresh local milk ( not the processed milk everyone buys by the gallon) are so expensive. Everyone gets sick on it. Buy real martyrs untouched milk. Your gut will thank u. Government restricts quantity sold. Find your local small farner

Can you please start quoting the scientific studies you use to make the recommendations? It's hardly shocking that they use oils in these plant based milks. A) it replaces some of the fats that plant based diets often leave out, B) the texture of these plant based milks leaves LOT to be desired. The oil gives the brain a closer texture to "milk". I'll agree that to many gums make products a bit gloppy give weird textures/tastes sometimes, but xanthan gum for example not harmful to the majority and current studies I'm reading say its only harmful to those with wheat, corn, soy and dairy allergies and premature infants. (It comes from fermenting sugars.) As for the sugars you can't really have it both ways. You want it raw, organic, etc and complain about pesticides and preservatives. Which I can understand, but you also want it to have a long shelf life and always be available for purchase. So to make this happen something has to be added to the product. Otherwise the shelf life would be days instead of months/years. Sugar solves this issue and requires a specific PH Level for commercial products. (I'm dealing with the state of IL creating a food company that sells products to stores.) Truth of the matter is, any thing you eat to much of is bad for you and will help kill you faster. It's hardly some new topic that we need to make endless videos to scare people. Oh wait, you make money off the video views... I get it now.

The point is, if you cut out the junk food and the snacks, you have a lot more money to make healthy choices. We eat way too much food.

Alternative milk products are useful for people with allergies. Trouble is that each manufacturers formula is different and when you eat out you can beat you are getting the cheapest. And it may not be allergy free.

Rapeseed oil isn’t necessarily Canola oil. Canola is a market term for a certain strain of rapeseed.

What's your thoughts on Milkadamia unsweetened ?

Why would you throw away soy milk just bc of the omega 6? The majority of them have 1 ingredient only and that's soy. Plus it has potassium which can lower blood pressure

It's best to make your own plant-based milk. When on a whole food plant based lifestyle, any oil of any kind is out of the question anyway. Not even olive oil.

But what's wrong with added vitamins? If you follow a vegan diet it's very important to supplement your diet with vitamins and minerals not commonly found in plant foods, especially B12.
