It is time to end the misconception that the society in Scandinavia during the Viking Age was grim and dark. We know that they used many colors, the stronger and brighter they were the better.

The eggs that are orange yolks are that colour in the spring when the hens get out to eat in grassy areas of natural food. Grain fed yolks are pale yellow and flavourless.

Colors could be a good way to show of status. I think they often miss that in movies.

Lol, I love the powdered dyes being flung about in the beginning. Very creative. I have enjoyed this video, as I would like to learn to make my own natural dyes. I've always suspected that pink and orange were more common than we've been led to believe. I wish I could grow Woad, but it's illegal here. They consider it an "invasive" species. 🤦 Those yellow Tansies are beautiful.

Thankyou! Mange Tak! I knew most of these plants but you showed me 2 I did not know. The medieval Scandinavians were not clothed in brown. Even a Thrall might show some color.

This is very cool. I wonder where gray and brown colors came from. Was it from other ones combined? Thank you for posting this. LOL. Vikings and their blue underwear! I enjoyed this. I love the humor in it.

Maybe they were being sarcastic to call the plant scentless or maybe a lost meaning of something like nasty smelling? I read once that some grafitti was found of a mother complaing about her children, their clothes, make up and music. As modern as this sounds it is about 5000 years old from Ancient Egypt. These videos are refreshing as mostly videos about the Vikings are just retelling of Snorri's stories and the sagas.

Isn't flax the same as linnen? and maybe they color there underwear blue because blood on blue stains black and is less confrontational but still visible for washing whit's is harder whit other color's and stains like red, yellow, black,green and brown.

The ORGANIC egg you refer to is FERTILIZED (eg: an embryo the other is NOT) Have you ever tasted the differences between Jersey, Guernsey and Holstein milks ??
@miradfalco251
@miradfalco251 3 жыл бұрын
Fertilized eggs are from hens that have been keeping company with a rooster. An organic designation indicates what the bird is eating. The two categories overlap, but only because a small farm flock is much more likely to have both roosters in with the hens, and better food, including outside pastures where they can forage.

@@miradfalco251 No bird eats BETTER than a commercial bird !! Different but not better
@miradfalco251
@miradfalco251 3 жыл бұрын
@@StephenMortimer Um, no. More doesn't equal better. A small flock bird getting real grain, and allowed to forage outside for fresh greens and insects is in a much better situation than a production barn full of birds eating commercial mash products, with who knows what blended in. I've also compared my own home produced eggs with commercially available organics. Mine have richer, deep golden yolks & sturdier shells, so I'll be sticking with my "home made" eggs.
