The look on your face after the first bite! Priceless! 😉 I've tried quite a few "Plant Based" dishes and cook a lot of vegetarian food, but I always find that it works better when it's not trying to imitate something. Plus, a lot of it is choc full of additives, so hardly a "healthy alternative!"
@X22GJP2 жыл бұрын
Completely agree - the best vegetarian and vegan food I've had (as an omnivore) is that which stands-alone and doesn't pretend to be something it's not. If nothing else, being admittedly narrow minded, a vegan eating a burger that looks, smells, tastes and has the texture of beef is a little bizarre.

@Matt19matt193 жыл бұрын
This is a classic thing people say. I've never understood what's not to understand. For some people it's not about the taste or texture of meat that's the issue, it's the fact an animal had to die. So people want alternatives that go some way towards replicating meat without it actually being made of animal lol. Something's work and others dont. This being something that doesn't work.

Meat isn't natural for humans, if our canine teeth were as strong as carnivorous animals, then that would mean we could eat animals the same way they do. No cutlery, no cooking, nothing except our hands and teeth. In reality, it has to be butchered, stored and cooked correctly otherwise we get sick from it. The same cannot be said for carnivorous animals, naturally we are herbivores.

My wife is a vegetarian and I eat a lot of vegetarian products although I still eat some meat occasionally. We eat veggie bacon regularly although we haven't tried the Aldi version, we usually have the Quorn or Richmond brands. What I must say is that eating it on its own will be pretty tasteless, its simply not meant for that. We eat it in a bread cake with some cheese, salad and mayonnaise, or with a fried egg and it tastes great. Or eat it with some beans, mushrooms, tinned tomatoes, fried egg, hash browns or anything else you like. It is great. I like it because you dont get all the fat and gristle. If I try eating bacon on its own or in toast with tomato sauce I would find it really boring.

I'm not a Vegetarian or Vegan... So this product isn't really on my radar... Everyone has their own reasons for consuming whatever they like... However, i do think most manufacturers could think about their packaging more... There needs to be an industry wide rethink on meat free packaging... as sometimes consumers think they're buying a standard meat product... only to find out later... that they've bought an unwanted meat free item... Packaging that states "No Pork"... isn't good enough... as there's products out there like Beef Bacon... and Turkey Bacon... So someone who doesn't eat "Pork" products for religious reasons... might think they're actually buying Turkey Bacon... You yourself Gareth have mistakenly bought meat free Kebab meat... It's easier than you think... My local takeaway makes really good food... However, i once bought a Bacon Cheeseburger... it was only after biting into it... i realised that the "Bacon" was plant based fake bacon... which i wasn't too happy about... So now i never buy any of their products that states it contains bacon... I'm sure if most people went into a pub and ordered a glass of Coca-Cola... and they served you a cheap supermarket own brand Cola instead... You'd be unhappy too!... You should get what you ordered... or what you bargained for when shopping... I appreciate the effort they're making... in offering meat free products for those who wish to cut meat out of their diet altogether... but don't try to make extra sales by (However unintentionally) fooling the customer. Thanks for the review Gareth. Cheers mate. 🍺

However, despite that theory, I have actually made a spaghetti bolognese a chilli con carne and a stir fry using Quorn mince and Quorn chicken pieces and they came out pretty good. It was worth it for your face...... best laugh I've had all week 😂😂😂 Looked like plastic in the packet... what the hell is cellulose⁉️ Certainly not something in my kitchen cupboards! It's what my old Mum would have called 'Franken food'. I wouldn't eat that if they paid me!!

Great review just don't think I will be trying this I will just be having bacon in moderation as we all know it's not that good for us if we have too much like anything that tastes good.
