I've been growing these for years and they are really fun little plants! Mine go about 4-5 years. I start new plants each year from gemmae. Thanks for the video Daniela and crew!

Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge of their behavioral biology in relation to seasons and stressors! Fascinating little plants, Daniella!

I love that whenever I pick up something interesting carnivorous at the garden center, you guys are the first result explaining exactly what I got there. Thanks for sharing!

And 7 months later, my two orders of D. Scorpioides are doing really well! I can’t wait to see them go into dormancy and produce gemmae!

The scorpioides are such a fun species!

Hi, I just bought one today. At home, the plant looked a little sad. The droplets on the sides were almost gone. It was hot out. Could it be caused by the heat and will it recover?
@California_Carnivores Жыл бұрын
They can go into a summer dormancy when it’s quite hot and the stipules on top of the plant will grow in white and fuzzy to protect it. But if you just got your plant and it’s still acclimating to your conditions, it could just be a moment of shock and it will adjust out! If it continues to not produce dew, increase light!

@@California_Carnivores it adjusted ♡ Now it made a lot of flowers!

Can i grow pygmy sundews in my sountheast facing windowsill? I live in a tropical Climate where the plants get 4-5 hours of direct sun and indirect bright sunlight for the rest of the day. The temperature here is 28-31 degrees celsius. The humidity here is about 90-100%.
@California_Carnivores3 ай бұрын
They may need a little more sun but 5 hours is right about the minimum so they may do well and pygmies generally make good houseplants!

Can these be grown indoors?
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
They can be, lots of sun or under grow lights and sitting in water.

I've been growing them indoors for about 10 years now. West facing windows.

Oh no so they can't be transplanted to save them. I just bought 4 of these and drosera carub I think I have 6 of these. So no seeds or flowers to pollinate. From a local garden, I also bought a bunch of tiny cape sundews. They aren't even a inch yet and clumped together I have teased them apart. And left 3 clumps in a 5 inch pot because they didn't seem to want to come apart yet I added sand hopefully that helps seems like she grew sphagnum moss with these and it clumps them together. Although I hope the moss will continue to grow too. So far looks better than my venus fly traps from Walmart i transplanted 1 the roots were in another pot and hidden but doesn't look very good. I gave it sunlight for an hour it turned red and just now looks like maybe new growth might be coming but center is red dialed my indoor light down and back up to 10yrs 2ft led white, red, and blue lights i used for my cayenne peppers for 5yrs. I think I need to slowly increase the light to 14hrs, before I try again bringing it outside. I know my scorpiods had gemmi on them so hopefully I have babies popping up soon. Although I would appreciate a video if I can transplant these, otherwise I guess ill wait till winter and see if I get gemi

We never transplant pygmy sundews as they do not like it very much. We leave them in the same pot for years and years!

Why so short lives in cultivation?
@California_Carnivores3 жыл бұрын
Many of them do not have very long lives in the wild either; we do have some that will live a very long time but it will usually only be one plant in a large pot and for efficiency we will start a fresh pot from gemmae. It’s hard to know why they can live longer in the wild.
