About Us.
Byther Farm is a small organic homestead, being designed and managed using permaculture practices. We aim for self-sufficiency in fruit and vegetables for increased self reliance and better resilience to the modern world. I recognise that we are unlikely to be truly self sufficient, but do the best we can. I share our home with my loving husband, Mr J and our cat, Monty.
We are a fifty-something couple who live on a smallholding in Carmarthenshire, Wales. We are going green and creating a gentler, cleaner and more healthy life for our family.
Having had a highly successful smallholding in Monmouthshire, we hope to recreate the abundance at our new home. There will be a large organic kitchen garden with no dig gardening raised beds and young food forest in which to grown our fruit and vegetables.
We keep a few sheep and Aylesbury ducks.
Music from Epidemic Sound.

I never thought of taking potatoes through the winter. I do grow all my potatoes in grow bags so i could easily move them! I'll give that a go next late summer. About to hit springtime here and im so excited!

Minted potatoes. It's the first time I hear that. If I tell that to my Dutch friends they'll think I'm starting an English joke. 😁

It is traditional in the U.K. to cook new potatoes with fresh mint in the U.K.

@@JustME-ft4di I never thought of it, but I'll give it a try some day when I find a recipe I like.

To be fair, Dutchies would probably be baffled by anything that's not deep fried or mashed 😅

I love the thought of planting for christmas - not that I have to worry too much about that here in Oz. My winter grow bag potatoes are growing fantastically and should soon be ready to harvest - always worth the effort to look after during winter!! Thanks for sharing - cheers Linda

Excellent video and your harvest from last year video!! I haven't thought about growing potatoes for Thanksgiving or Christmas harvest. I am definitely going to give this a try with my favorite herbs as well. Thank you so very much. Have a Blessed Day!!

Thanks, Liz! I had just planted 12 Sarpo Miras in grow bags as an experiment to see if I could grow potatoes through our mild winter. Confirmation!

Some great ideas as always but am worried that your mint might race away and fill that tub before the potatoes have chance to get going. Perhaps I am too pessimistic, I do love minted potatoes so will be interested to see how your pot grows. Thank you for more ideas and inspiration 💐

The nice thing about experiments is that I always learn something from them - even it it's 'don't do that again!' 💚

Sigh, I remember you were happy about your size of corn and I saw that mine where about your size, but mine has completely stopped growing now! No cornsilk visible at all. I wonder what I did wrong. My beans wont grow either. Lovely video Liz, as always. I think I should give them a good feed and hope for some late summer hot days here in Norway. Very inspiring video, love that you're prepping for a late harvest :D We get frost early, I wish I had a sensible green house where I could have hot beds for the late autumn.

Don't lose hope! My corn was looking the same and blooming like no tomorrow for the last 2 weeks and I thought it was doomed as I couldn't see any silks either, but then Yesterday I saw two of the stalks putting silks out. Yours will get there too 💚

Boiled potatoes that have had mint added to the water for the last half of the cooking or alternatively, sprinkle finely chopped mint over boiled potatoes before serving. It is especially good with new or salad potatoes.

hi, just a little question. Instead of 2 half size leaf of sage why not just let one full leave on it ?
