Thanks for the video. I'm very much a plant newbie and I can't even keep these alive. I still don't understand the difference between under and over watering (not just from your video just any info I've seen about them) because both times it is brown leaves. But I guess because it's wilting most likely it's under watering? I will try a bit more often and see if that makes a difference! Right now it's between 1-3 weeks 🙈
@Plantalogy Жыл бұрын
Let me make this concept clear to you. Check the soil moisture before watering because that is the easiest way to learn whether the plant needs water or not. - If the soil surface along with 2-3 inches of the soil depth feels dry; also the plant is wilting, you need to water thoroughly because, at that point, the plant is out of moisture. - On the other hand, if the soil already looks moist, even wet or saturated. But still, the plant is wilting. That might indicate the plant is overwatered. So check the soil before watering to avoid both overwatering as well as under-watering 🌱🌷🌷❄️❄️

The Sheffield Gardener videos often recommend getting a moisture meter. You can stick the probe in and it tells you if the plant is actually dry or not. It takes out all the guess work. And some of my plants are densely foliated around the soil, so it's hard to poke in a finger to feel anyway. Many plants really do prefer to dry out completely before watering again. That said, I'm here because my Areca Palm is brown all over, and I'm trying to fix it. I thought I was not watering too much, but when I looked in the moisture meter, I found that down at the bottom it's WAY too wet. Shoot! 😫 I hope it can make it until summer so I can put it outside and let it recover some growth. It's looking terrible.

I believe heavily in probe style hydrometers. They have made my brown thumb green by taking the guess work out of it.

Does anyone know what these brown dots are on the leaves of this plant and they’re like infestation on the leaves system? Where do they come from? I just bought them a year ago from IKEA and they were perfectly fine…

I had that and it was nitrogen deficiency. Mild fert worked for me, 1/2 amount. Big box stores water tons and strip the nutrients

Can hard water be the reason for brown tip?
@vickythefunk9 ай бұрын
Yes, that is possible as the salts within the water blocks out the surface after some time and there's not exchange of air from the surface due to which the soil hardens and doesn't seep water any further like it did earlier. So avoid hard water for plants.

Is it indoor or outdoor plant?
@Plantalogy6 ай бұрын
All plants are outdoor plants, just they have different ranges of light requirements. Areca prefers 4-5 hours of bright indirect light. It can be behind a north-facing window or an east-facing balcony where the plant will not receive scorching light or a heated environment. 🌷🌷🌷
