Still can't fully make up my mind about Bryan Johnson, but I do like that he seems to have a sense of humor about the whole endeavor.

One example of his sense of humor is the fact that many of the videos on his channel especially the short ones find him wearing a shirt that looks more like what a toddler would wear except that it fits him properly. I'm guessing that's his tongue in cheek reference to trying to turn back the clock on his aging

At 49 years old I went vegan over night. I am now almost 62. Two years ago I found out I had extremely high blood pressure. Then I had a stroke. I am a Vegan. I lived despite my vegan diet. High BP was caused by Sleep Apnea, "while I was sleeping". LOL I actually wrote a book, but I was un-able to edit/publish it. I was lucky to live but with much less function. Being a Vegan saved me. I thought I was aging perfectly. Growing younger with every day. But had I visited a doctor, perhaps I might have avoided the Stroke. Plants don't lie. Don't eat flesh! 12 years vegan helped me age less, but that is not all you have to do to stay healthy. Sleep Apnea is a killer! I like his personal story (from suicidal depression to vegan longevity athlete) and draw some inspiration from it. But there also seems to be clever marketing, promoting orthorexia and some very dubious treatments involved. "Very dubious" meaning what? EVERYTHING is "dubious" for God's sake. And he is very conservative and IMO too strict. He would benefit from loosening up a bit and using more "dubious" stuff -- which, though uncertain by nature, will probably prove to have been the right thing to do.

Despite the fact that I can't think of any major faults I have with Bryan Johnson, I just wish this video was a bit more adversarial somehow. It almost felt like an ad at the beginning. That said, please don't take this is a harsh criticism. I love this channel dearly. I just think this could have been a little more even handed. Ultimately, I can't blame you though. I had the same general impression of Bryan beforehand -- despite my natural skepticism, I can't help but feel there's something "real" there and I can't help but like the guy for his philosophy.

So - Sleep - consistent, high quality sleep is your #1 life priority. - Diet - eat a Mediterranean like diet. Example foods include vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes (beans, chickpeas, lentils), lean proteins, and extra virgin olive oil. - Exercise - 6 hours a week. Incorporate strength, cardio, flexibility and balance. - Family, friendship and community - actively foster meaningful relationships. - Things to avoid - fast food, junk food, smoking, vaping, excessive alcohol and social media - and anything addictive.

“Mediterranean” includes France. Would you say they eat “lean” meat and mostly veggies 😊? The real Mediterranean diet is high in meat (if it moves, it is eaten - rabbit, pork, beef, chicken, turkey, game, snails etc); fish; cheese; eggs; cream; vegetables & salads; fruits in season and white grains (white bread, white rice, white pasta). Those who eat more of the real food are slim. Those who eat more of the pasta become “Italian mammas”.

Thank you Michelle. Your video helped Bryan regain some points with me. I was a bit turned off hearing some supplements Bryan takes were (likely falsely) rumored to be bioengineered based on the Lacks' lifesource. Having worked with surviving descendants of the Lacks family, in short, I was horrified and stopped listening to his channel. Our local as well as global pharma company and researchers have made billions of dollars from her genes while Henrietta's children and relatives have suffered with many of them dying for lack of simple resources, even access to sound healthcare. After hearing this video I feel more hopeful Bryan is really striving to respect All Life and has found a place to be compassionate and scientific . I also am feeling encouraged to discover there may be more than one path to supporting our best health.

He seems like a genuine dude, interested in finding out what's possible in humans health. But I'd much prefer if he would spend his money on funding actual studies, rather than just trying out things on one person, him. I also think, that the obsession he has, seems like such a huge time investment, that while you may live longer, you lose out on life in those years. While I'm also a huge health advocator, I think social interaction (which sometimes might include doing unhealthy stuff like eating junk once in a while) is very important for your happiness, and therefore also for your life and health. I don't think this is something these biohackers are so into though.

"it's just a social norm, which are never permanent and can always be changed" (Talmage Johnson, paraphrased for impact and stress) That's a brilliant way of thinking. It is a social norm that is not reasonable, and thereford it is just a fad, and unhealthy fad, which necessarily irrational, as reason must always be tied to well-being and increased productivity (aiding in the well being of others)
@Mimulus27173 ай бұрын
I agree, Brian Johnson has been unfairly ridiculed in the media. This was a very interesting trip into the Don't Die movement. I cannot help wondering though if it the name "don;t die" is the best moniker. Everyone needs to die at some point, if everyone lived forever (or another 30-40 years past normal life expectancy) the world population would accelerate. We already have exceeded the carrying capacity of the planet with all our wants like flying from halfway across the world to attend an event like this. I think "Be healthy" or something like that a better name for the movement. Healthy aging and a vegan diet and simple uncomplicated life without alot of consumer demands and dramatically less invasive healthcare to prolong life would be better for the planet. Also, no mention of a life partner and/or social interaction which is so important to healthy ageing. Clearly Brian is a well adjusted social guy, but was there any talk about how his fellow hackers can create community? I would love to see more health related community building tools in our towns and cities so this becomes the social norm and it becomes easier to make healthy choices.

I lost interest about half way through but I did appreciate his honesty around not being an expert, doing his best to test things out and how he can only understand the results from his own perspective. I have zero bandwidth for ppl who would want to live forever, or the reality that the wealthy are always going to have longevity opportunities that most won't have, so this is just not the video for me personally, but he did seem to have a level of humility I appreciated (even if I question the mental health of someone that fixated on youth). The food options presented at his conference looked amazing.

My grandfather lived to 104, never developed dementia and was never wheelchair bound. He didn't pay much attention to his diet -- ate mostly fruit and oatmeal for breakfast and hospital food for lunch (he was an MD), and potatoes, vegetables and beef or fish for dinner. At his 100th birthday party (with a couple hundred friends) I asked him about his diet. He said he eats just about anything but never too much. He was never overweight. He didn't consciously exercise, though he enjoyed walking in the park. He had many friends and was always cheerful and friendly in spite of facing death every day as a forensic pathologist. He never took a supplement in his life. I doubt if B.J. will do as well.
