Hey Joey, I think you should keep this sump visible in your gallery. It's gorgeous and has so many elements to it that can be useful to your teachings as a lot of beginners don't know all the little bits of filtration but this has it all.

Maybe use one of the reactors as a CO2 reactor And plumb the output to the tank or at least the return pump chamber. Carbon will remove some of the elements your plants will need to grow. So are you now going to open the tank stand up so the sump is viewable from the front?

@Uarejoey ... I would find a small plastic box that fits within the last open compartment and place it full of ADA Substrate or other good Aquasoil for acclimating and growing out reserve plants. In case they get butchered/harassed by the fish in the main display before they can properly set down their roots in the soil. To ensure that I do not have to pay for new plants in the future. An upgrade to this would be to glue a fishing line to the box and have styrofoam or similar floating material that is just below water surface for Moss / Baby tears that demand more light. This way, you can save the cost on light source by bringing the plant closer to the surface. In the process, you will cleanse the nutrients near the water surface. But most importantly, it becomes easy to pull out, if need be.

If you plan to use this filter system to a Plant aquarium i foresee an issue.. All the Co2 in the water is gonna be knocked out the water when it hits the filter system. It would work perfect on a normal fish only / none demanding plants but a more heavy plant setup not so much.

If he's wanting the clarity people associate with activated carbon he should use a UV sterilizer instead. Definitely right that the carbon would remove nutrients from the water column

One of the media reactors should be Seachem Purigen. I'm a big fan, you should try it out.

Plants consume nitrates, and are the missing link in the cycle, of the average tank. Balance is the key! Remember , what does your tank NEED, as opposed to what YOU WANT to have in your tank. they are not always the same.
