Great planter to see. It was the last new product introduced by Oliver. I had s neighbor who had a 12 row Oliver like this in the 1970s. Looking forward to seeing yours out in the field.
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
To bad that one isnt still around! Ill bet that was one of the only 12 row Olivers built cause ive never even seen a picture of one.

It was a neat planter. It was the first 12 row in our neighborhood. I wish I had a picture. It is exciting to see yours. It will be neat to see it in action. I have Oliver and Minneapolis-Moline literature that shows the 12 row.

Nice purchase. I like that one Massey wheel. Just a thought you might want to take two of those old four row planters and make a splitter planter to plant on 18" rows for soybeans. I bet it would be the first Oliver 7 row 18" planter anyone has seen. Farmers used to make those planters a lot back in the 80's around here. It would defiantly have the cool factor.

The original plan for those parts planters was to make a 9X15 bean planter.

that is a nice big planter. The tongue doesn't fold up though, that makes it kind of wide. any fun dragging it home or did you haul it? we had a 36 foot end tow drill for wheat back in the day. that thing was all kinds of fun and we had to drag it through this little town on the way to the other fields. man it got hairy.
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
I hauled it. We are going to modify the tongue so it folds and most likely so im pulling off the 3 point so it will look more like the hitch on a new planter.

what's nice about an 8 row is u can still use the 4 row combine head and the 4 row cultivater and not run into the planter end row being in the middle of any equipment running down the rows. awesome find! can't wait to see the beast running in the dirt!

About 20 years ago I did the same thing, Bought an 8x30 AC Planter. My 1550 handled it fine. To tell you the truth an 8x30 works great on flat ground but when you get into rolling ground there not so good. Just be ready for that problem. You did find a rare piece for sure and I wish you all the luck in the world getting it all fixed and back in the field working. You did good and keep up the great work your doing and keep us updated on it. Bandit

There are more 8 and 12 row rigid frame planters around here than you can shake a stick at so im not worried about using it. Hell theres even guys running 16 row rigid frame planters which surprises me cause normally when you get that big you are getting into a flex frame.
@banditfarmer19008 жыл бұрын
I used my 8x30" planter for several years and I really liked it cause you could cover a lot of ground in a hurry and you weren't going that fast with it. Then I found the 8x20" corn hear and the switch was on ! I cut it down to a 6x30" frame and but the 8 units on it and I'll never look back. I wish you good luck butting her back together as an 8x30 and getting her looking new ! You have a rare equipped planter and I hope it all goes smooth in getting all back together. Bandit

For bulk beans I use a 1950's era grain cart , I lift the bulk box up high enough to put the bucket of the skid steer under it and dump into the cart one bucket full at a time ,it's really not that bad.i see you have a forklift and and the Ford backhoe tractor , just putting ideas out there. Thanks again for the videos !

Not sure about leaving a row out but what I see is this planter was left out in the weather and why one box has been changed and why the adjuster is froze up. Looking at your buildings I would definitely put this under cover after I got everything working and the rust ofn it. I think you may need to train this behind or in front of a packer wheel and other implements. Good buy

+Oliver66FarmBoy Agreed, Oliver was the best tractor producer out there. Now Olivers aren't produced no more and tractors are built cheap with parts that are irreplaceable without a huge bill hanging off your wallet. Oliver also had the looks and power, like the Oliver 70 for example; tough, durable, beautiful, powerful you name it. Oliver was the quality tractor in the day and still is. :)

What happen to this planter?
@pa.heifergrower678 жыл бұрын
I used to have a white 543 no till with 24 cell plates it was very accurate.Lincln ag has new plates for that planter. I think you would be very happy with 30 inch beans just use Envive herbicide preplant and follow up later with something post emerge. Buy you beans in bulk boxes the money you save in seed will offset any yield loss , 16800 population in 30 inch rows equals no yield.loss Thanks for the videos ! !
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
I will check that place out. I dont have an applicators license so I cant buy any of those herbicides. I need to get one but there just havent been enough hours in a day. At this point I also cant buy bulk beans cause I have no way to handle them.

@1850oliver180AC8 жыл бұрын
That is one rare piece. Running over the ground in front of the rows with my 1850 doesn't make any difference in emergence, but I've got no-till coulters. As far as using those tines for busting up a crust ahead of the row units; that may work for you, but would definitely not work for me on my normal ground, let alone the reclaim. Would the tiny holes in the those small box meters work for milo? Milo seed is tiny. It amazes me that there are still warehouses full of factory original parts for 40 plus year old equipment that never got used or scrapped.
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
Im not saying if we get a hard pounding rain and the first inch of the soil is crusted over I will be able to plant through it, I will still have to run the field cultivator back over the ground, but if we get a little rain shower that puts a light crust on the top those tines will bust right through it. No, there are milo plates you run in the regular seed boxes, those mini boxes are ment for small seeded specialty crops, the holes in the plates are even smaller than the holes in the milo plates I already have.
@1850oliver180AC8 жыл бұрын
Smaller than milo. That's blow around in the wind tiny. I guess I've never really thought much about how planting into a crust would be a problem. We've always had no-till coulters, so if the mulched ground got rained on and crusted over, it would plant just fine when it dried out enough to drive across it. You said those planters are super light weight, so I can see how those tines would be beneficial.

Interesting planter and nice addition to your all oliver lineup. We upgraded from a 6 row White 5100 to a 12 row White 6180 last year, planting faster was a nice change. I would have moved up to a White 5100, that would have been an upgrade.
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
If you will be kind enough to write me a ten to fifteen thousand dollar check I would gladly buy a 5100. Plus it wouldnt have been much of an upgrade for my operation. A 5100 is heavy enough that I would have had to put it on my 1950T cause the 1800 would have struggled to handle it on the hills I farm. That would have taken away one of my ground working tractors and slowed up the entire works. This 543 will suit me better for now.
@MrKurzhaar20008 жыл бұрын
+Oliver66FarmBoy we pulled a 6 row 5100 with row cleaners, spiked closing wheels, yesterday fertilizer counters, and three 80 gallon tanks with either an IH 756 or Oliver 1800.
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
A 6 row is a lot lighter than an 8 row. You start throwing in all the rigging for the vertical fold plus the extra frame length and 2 more row units it makes a big difference. Especially on the hills I have. I help a guy that has an 8 row 5100 with a yetter no till bar on it and he pulls it with a 1955 Cummins conversion and there are times when that planter is all 150 horse wants.

Your in the big times now. You could get done with all your corn in one day if your fields are not to far apart. And if you try to plant corn also with the 4 row you will be moving along.

It will still take a few days to get done cause I am so spread out. But if I start getting into bigger fields I bet I could easily cover 30-40 acres a day with this setup if not more.

You won't be happy with 30 inch beans, do 15 inch, just plant the field the come back and plant between your rows.
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
Some guys like them and some guys dont but I figure its worth a try. This year the 30 inch beans are kicking the narrow and drill beans asses in this dry weather. There is one guy around here that double plants and you can tell every pass he took going back over the field cause the two rows he ran over on the second pass are shorter than the rest, looks like hell in my opinion.

Not to dampen your spirits but you will have a fun time changing it around from field to road if you have a lot of spaced out places

Ive already done it and its not that bad. Once I get the right sized tires on it there should be a problem, plus we are going to make it hydraulic.

Love that u rescued another piece of history. You shouldnt need duals on the 1800. I pulled a 8 row 30 cyclo 400 IH back in the day with an 880. no duals. Also dont run your duals on the row, u wont like the results get them spaced to run in between the rows. Will your turning be severly limited unless you lengthen the hitch?
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
You must have flat ground. I farm some hills that would have stopped that setup dead in its tracks. That 1800 is light enough that running duals on the row wont be a problem, I ran duals on my 1600 for 2 years while planting and they were on the row, never had a problem. There are soft spots where I will need duals, especially with that narrow front tractor. We are going to heavily modify the hitch.
@rustybuttrusty99608 жыл бұрын
If its worked for u on your ground thats great. I had depth controll issues and also when planting with the grade I had washing problems with the rows in the wheel tracks, even after the crop had emerged. keep them vids coming

I don't know about your ground, but if you have your tractor set up properly, you don't necessarily need duals, in fact with this planter, duals can be problematic. The tongue is a bit short but if you try and extend it you'll change the profile?
@Oliver66FarmBoy8 жыл бұрын
I need the duals on the hills I have. Fully loaded that isnt going to be a light planter. We are going to heavily modify the hitch on that so it pulls off the three point, or at least thats the plan for now.
@billwhitman15298 жыл бұрын
We have a neighbor who was an engineer on the Kinze planters and he was telling me that the planter is designed to pull from a certain point and that if you extend the hitch, a number of adjustments need to be made. Of course, he is an engineer, and they are known for extremes. By the way, I have another neighbor who pulls an 8 row JD 7000 with a Ford 7700, no duals. No problem with 18.4 R 34's. And we have HILLS.
