So true about excessive moisture and the Nepeta. We had about nine dwarf Nepetas edging a garden at the animal rescue where I garden. They were dependable and reliable for several years until we had an unusually wet spring last year. Repeated drenching rains succeeded in killing all but one of the Nepetas (and three, well-established Buddleias, too). Losing the Nepetas was a bummer! Now, in this time of pandemic self-distancing, business closures, unemployment & financial woes, we’ll wait until next year to replace them. Thank heavens for your videos, they give us all a sense of normalcy and beautiful blooms.

Love the vlog. You were talking about them being deer resistant. Here in the UK we are under lock down and because there are few cars and fewer people in some towns (Wales for instance) they have wild goats roaming the streets and gardens. The goats are just hopping over walls and walking along them then dropping into the gardens. Looks funny unless of course it is your garden..... Stay safe. Love from the uk jude x

Varieties of catmint have easily become my favorite go-to for pots, borders, just about everything! I plant them in all my containers then overwinter them in the veggie garden and dig them up and repot them in the spring. I just did this again and the are thriving and will be blooming in a few weeks. I find that they bloom nearly all summer and into the fall, and YES...the bees 💕 them! 🐝🐝🐝🐝. And the bonus is, that color is my absolute favorite!! It’s a win-win! ☺️☺️

Last year I bought a nepeta at Lowe's in the clearance bin, it was dried out and I didn't know if I could bring it back. But I planted it and it thrived. I cut it back and it re-bloomed. I just transplanted it to a sunnier area and I ordered 5 more so I can have a nice border in front of my day lilies.
@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane4 жыл бұрын
I did the same and just stuck them in my veg garden for the winter until I can put them where I want them. They all survived and are thriving. These are really tough little plants! (as long as they're not over-watered.) =D
@erynnlongenecker26723 жыл бұрын
Ooooo. That sounds like a pretty combination
@Ret2Play2 жыл бұрын
@@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane new gardener here. I bought these in June as part of a pollinator combo from a local small nursery. I have a vegetable container garden and planted these in a large 7 gallon container. They are in full sun and were starting to fill the container and had little blooms starting, then we had a week of heavy rain. I noticed some die back in center of plant and a little browning beginning in some stems. I assume it’s because they got too much water? No clue how to solve that in a container now that it’s too moist… bummer.
@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane2 жыл бұрын
@@Ret2Play Yes, I think you're right... too much water. This type of plant needs super good drainage so you would have to make sure the soil you put in your container does that. Otherwise, could you get them out of there and put them in the ground in a well-draining, sunny area? If you want to save them you could do that or replace that soil in your containers. They'll probably bounce back because they're pretty tough... just cut the top back before you replant in the ground or container, give them some time, and see what happens! You might be surprised! 😀

Thanks for the video. I've had a Nepeta cat's pajama struggling along for two years. Perhaps I'll be able to get the results I want now. Off topic, but I wanted to comment on the video concerning your new walk along the west side. Laura said you were intending to use the same driveway rock there at your new circle in the walk. A really wonderful gravel size for that type of use is 'A quarter inch to dust' (or it might have place name too. Here in NC, it''s called Chapel Hill crushed). Its what is used in parks on compacted gravel walking trails. Because it compacts so very well, it is considered impervious.

👋🏻 Hi Laura! I was looking for someone that planted in and around their chicken and pig pens, etc… with things the animals inside can also eat. Looking at yours, I’d love to see some sod put down and have your water feature stream through the coop some kind of way. I’m also thinking grapes, mirlitons, small melons hanging down would look awesome and planters filled with yummy things chickens love to eat, peas, lettuce, kale, etc. Maybe a super cute chandelier and a miniature claw foot tub with some dusty soil for when they want a dust bath lol. A blingy miniature sink for fresh water to drink and mirror! 🪞 Oh and inside maybe some cute little doll beds with canopies for the nesting boxes? And something decorative for a roost. Anthropomorphic chicken art! How adorable would that be? It would also be fantastic farm charm content for a video, definitely something I’d share….if you ever have the time and energy for it. Just an idea I had.
