Today we're planting our new Flagpole Cherry tree (Prunus 'Amanogawa'). We'll take you along for all of the steps, from digging the hole to moving this 300kg tree into the garden.
And we'll show you what else we've been up to this week in our back garden.
Spoiler alert: It involves pricking out seedlings, fertilizing the garden in the rain, and planting more bare root perennials.

What a lovely tree and great size. We know just how heavy trees can be to manoeuvre and plant without machinery so we'll done! All that new planting space to plan and enjoy too. You're weather is very similar to the UK, rain, sun, rain again! Nice to see you as a family too. Take care guys ❤

We'll do anything to keep the smell of the fertilizer away 😅. Usually we fertilize right BEFORE the rain.. but this one sneaked up on us.

This reminded me of putting up my Christmas tree every year and trying to get it straight! Beautiful tree and that was a huge hole that you had to dig for it. The weather is so unpredictable at the moment but us gardeners carry on until the job is done. You must be very pleased with the finished results. It's lovely that your son gives you both a helping hand. Does he like gardening? I'm like you and have a lot of potting on to do. It's a job that I really like doing.

At least no Christmas lights to untangle 😂 Our son likes helping out - but he’s not crazy about gardening in particular. He does like having a pretty backyard tho. Maybe he’ll like it better when he’s older. And so glad you still have some potting on to do, too 🤓 We feel quite behind… but it’s a fun job, so we also don’t mind taking it slow.

Gorgeous tree- so beautiful. Loed watching the team work potting on the seedlings. I so worry to so my seeds in cold temperatures, - I am so scared of them rotting in the cold damp soil, but I see from your video that they are ok and do well. Thank you.I do like your potting compost- it looks really nice. Is it coir based? Thank you for such an interesting video. Happy gardening 🙂

Thanks for watching! We keep all of our seedlings in that unheated glasshouse. If the daily temperatures warm up, we open the door to keep the air moving and not so humid. We do get moss on top of many trays...but we just scrape it off. AND, we do have some trays that just don't make it -- but that's just life of gardeners :) All in all, we prefer this method to sowing now in the spring... when there are a million other small jobs to work on :)

Question: I have Lupines that i wintered sowed. They have nice leaves but they are still small. Can I just go ahead and put them in the ground? Will I kill it if I just put it in the ground instead of repotting into bigger pots. I have a whole bunch of them. Beautiful tree. Great for that spot. Thanks for sharing your repotting.
@perennial-garden

For our area, it's fine to plant them out already now. The fear of frost has passed for us and all of our seedlings have their second set of leaves. We DO have to be careful for snails and slugs in our garden tho... and they love tiny lupine leaves here. But otherwise, go for it:)
