It must be nice to live in an area where people put the plants out for others to take if wanted. Your yard is amazing, I love all the variety of the plants.

Yes, I feel very lucky to live here. The climate is fantastic for so many plants, and they tend to get overgrown - so neighbors leaving out plants is very common. And thank you, my garden is my labor of love.

Some of my neighbors leave plants by the dumpster instead of throwing them away but most of them just end up in the trash. I saved a bunch of really nice aloe plants the other day. The two oldest ones of the clump almost have a trunk after I cleaned away all the dead and rotting leaves. The Plant is big and wide but the leaves of the rosette are small and packed together very tightly in a wide spiral, they also have those fleshy little spikes sparsly spread over the tops of the leaves. I have never seen an aloe quite like it and it's so blue I thought it was an agave from a distance.

Sounds amazing! Especially when reject plants get spruced up rather than end up in the trash. Nice one!

I've picked up one today, just as this one! but, it had damaged areas all over the stem, and I wonder... HOW. how to help that buddy, cuz I know nothing about cactuses, and the only succulent, that has survived at mine yet - is a tiny aloe, which seems to love me a lot, cuz all previous tries were so failed (one literally fell off the stem and said bye-bye)... hope I'd not make more damage to the one I picked up 🤭

Burying it that far down won't rot it?

I have 3 cactus pups, if that is what they are called, I found them "on the ground" at HDepot :) . Ive had them in tiny pots since late summer. They are taking their sweet time growing but I see the progress. How long does it take cactus to grow? One is super tiny but good roots and growing from the botton...

Amazing! Yes cacti are really slow to grow, spring is a good time to give them some fertilizer to kick them back into growing season. As it gets warmer, they will start to grow some more. I'd find either a succulent/cactus specific fertilizer or a fertilizer with a 5-10-5 rating. You only need to fertilize about 3x a year or so... but Spring is the perfect time to get it going.

Your fire sticks cactus will get very large. I put out a lot of cactus plant for free. But I need agave attenuata. Still looking for one.

Yes you're right... I've already found they do well when I cut them back. We have so many Attenuatas, if you're in the Santa Barbara area, let me know; I'd be happy to share.

Fabric weed barriers are problematic. The organ pipe will spread and will need to be replanted to an area with more room.
