It has definitely taken (not really growing now it’s cooled off ) let’s see what happens in spring
@dylan8285 Жыл бұрын
That zoysia will be fine it’s probably the most cold tolerant of the warm season grasses. I’ve seen it growing here in zone 5 -20F in the states where we have brutal winters of course it does not make a good lawn here as it’s brown for 8 months out the year but it grows really well during the summer when cool season wants to check out.
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
Thats great news mate makes me more confident 😎
@dylan8285 Жыл бұрын
@@theaussielawn no problem, of course have no clue what kind of zoysia it is some old cultivar. But it’s zoysia and it’s been there a very long time, so it’s been through a lot of brutal winters

If this is the first time you've played with zoysia, I'm keen to see what you think. I've just laid a section of Empire zoysia at the front of my house.

Good job there Brenton, good luck with the growing. I would like to know more about your scarifier, I watched a video of Ben Sims explaining the difference between a scarifier and a grooming blade, to me it looks like you have a grooming blade, due to the blades being close together and not as aggressive, can you please explain and expand on this? Ps would really like to come to the meet and greet, though I am in another state
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, if you want to split hairs mine is more a slicer and groover. As the blades on mine are designed to penetrate into the soil by as much as 1" A true scarifier will sometimes have offset blades to grab as much grass material and rip it up those style are unable to penetrate soil for obvious reasons. I feel the blades on mine are the most versatile for the kind work I use it for
@benr7774 Жыл бұрын

Do you reckon some plastic sheeting could help make the most of the last bits of sunshine we've got before she gets colder than a polar bears nipples?

Possibly yes but it will also reduce airflow etc which isn't ideal

Hey mate great videos ; wondering your thoughts on the Honda HRU19 and the bushranger 48AL7M as I’m stuck between the two
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
Honda is assembled here in AUS, it's heavier but will last a lifetime when cared for. The Bushranger is in comparison a lesser known brand that potentially wont hold together quite as well but does offer decent value. If I had to chose and only wanted to buy one mower to stay tight and last a very long time Id go a Honda

I enjoyed your video. I am interested in seeing your results. Do you feel that sprigging will give you faster coverage than plugs? I am in the US in NC in the coastal area and I have tried everything except your sprigging method to establish my zoysia so as I said the updates will be interesting.
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
Im not exactly sure to be honest I think it may also depend on the variety of zoysia too.
@markhouston4473 Жыл бұрын
@@theaussielawn I have a variety called Jamur zoysia, a medium width blade.
@jon.bennett Жыл бұрын
Like you said, not ideal time to do this, but I reckon the nodes will slowly produce roots and establish. It will be interesting to see the shade tolerance of this zoysia. Do you get frosts on that side of the house?
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
Yeah Im quietly confident it will work but will take a while. I do get frosts on that side. On average I get 10-12 frosts a winter with one or two that are especially severe

Hey Brenton i have a question regarding pre emergent, pgr and plugging tiftuf. Im in Cairns in fnq so we dont really have a winter. What would be your recommendation in regards to plugging tiftuf and using pre emergent. Will it still cause root pruning when planting pro plugger plugs? Also, will pgr prevent lateral growth in the fill in stage, or promte it? Cheers Ben
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, Don't be using PGR while establishing, If you where to use a pre emergent such as oxapro you wont have any root pruning therefore wont affect your tif plugs

Why sand and not soil? Isn't the sand lifeless, no nutrients or microbes? Plus, just makes the yard sandy? I note a lot of people topdress with sand every year, that'd all add up over time surely?
@mickdemi6 Жыл бұрын
Apparently zosia loves sand as a growing medium also might be a answer
@theaussielawn Жыл бұрын
As mentioned in previous vids mate the sand I use is known as 70-30 (the 70% sand 30% clay silt material) so that is more than enough to give the turf free drainage, nutrient holding ability and life so to speak
