I use a cheap yoga mat when I plant out or weed. I can reach, lean, change positions, scootch and not have to move it every foot! My do pg also loves to lay on it next to me while I work. And its easy to hose off.

Glad you listen to your intuition about critters. I live on 4 acres that are wooded, house and flower beds centrally. I have gone 15 years unscathed...this winter the deer cleaned house! Even my lilacs, seriously? Ugh. Now the chipmunks have moved in and are literally swiping tulips everywhere. It's like a cartoon out there. Here one minute, bloop, gone the next! And they are resistant to EVERYTHING. little jerks!

I recommend volleyball kneepads. They stay up well, even on bare legs, and are super cushiony.

Good morning Nicole!! Blinds are great for short term markers but sadly, I learned, not so great for outdoors for any length of time. Winter is not kind to them. You will find many that have snapped and are broken unless you push them all the way down into the ground or use them to plant inside the hole for when you dig up the variety of plant that is there. I had over 200 daylilies marked with them and thank goodness that I made a map of the area last fall because this spring many of them are missing, snapped and broken, or just crumbled away and faded. Using a garden marker will definitely help to keep the name on there. Sharpies will fade out in just one short season. I now use them for my seeding indoors only.

Yes I definitely don’t see them lasting through the winter! I had that issue with sharpies last year! Had no idea what some things were 😂

Hey! Off subject... But, have you ever seen big sunflowers in the garden with bright sunglasses on them?l thought with your love for funky sunglasses that'd be a fun conversation piece for display at your bouquet bar. 😂 They look so cheerful and fun!

Powdery mildew spreads with the wind and stays in the soil.My suggestion is take one of those garden feeder sprayers fill with milk. Spray as soon as leaves emerge,again midsummer and end of season. I haven't had it in years.

Hey! 💡 If the soil gets too hot under that Phlox, you could always put mulch over top to keep it cool down under. Yesssss, before you ask... That IS what they do in Australia. They use mulch down under. Yes They DO!! Really, they do. Im just sayin, they do... Sorry, I guess I'm making A-Runcus about the mulch... 🙈

Love to see things coming up for you!!! Saw a video from Living Traditions Homestead, they built a 2nd fence around their garden as a "moat". Their fences aren't as high as yours, but said deer don't have great depth perception. Maybe that could help your beds too?

I’ve used window shades as garden labels for years and if I remember right the sharpie marker fades. I write on them with pencil, that stays for years and never come off even through winter. ☮️-Kirsten

I use the miter saw to cut large stacks of mini blinds for plant tags and pencil stays on longer than most markers.

I was going to say- chicken tiller. This would work perfectly for that. Put your chickens where you're going to plant. They will weed, eat bugs and poo... and then move them to the next spot.

When your plant marker runs out, try using a pencil. It doesn’t come off. Even in the ground over winter(s plural)😊

we live in Texas, and the woven fabric doesn't really warm up that much... it certainly doesn't mess with the soil temps

But Nicole, raspberry is a good greenery plant for bouquets. Also, they might come out bit later than normal since they are newly planted. Dont rush, raspberry rarely dies.

I started to finally get blueberries when I pulled them out of the ground and potted them. They need acid loamy soil and moisture. I have heavy clay that is just not good for them. Lost raspberries to some disease. Trying blackberries. I hate to spray anything but I may have to use a fungicide this year.

I live in Minnesota Zone 4 and I think you'll find the fabric actually keeps the ground cooler than it would be without it 😊 Kind of like how mulch keeps the ground cooler. At least that's my experience. Best of luck to ya!

How do you protect your back Nicole? Every day I come in from the field my back is on fire- primarily my lower back. I try to kneel and lean over- but even that causes it to hurt! Maybe I need a chiro 😂

I've seen a burn tool where they fit a tin can around the torch. It just seems like there has to be a better way. Maybe with a large washer attachment you can change out the tin can sizes to what you need. Might be worth a KZbin search. I bet Brad Pitt could design something for you. ;)

Don't feel bad about giving the raspberries and blueberries the boot. You'll thank yourself. I work for a big berry farm where our rows are 350 yards long each with 250 acres planted in just raspberries, blueberries and boysenberries. Raspberries can attract all kinds of awful pests, which could end up devouring your flowers. If you want to go to the trouble to replant your blueberries, then check your ph. They need an acidic soil. If you plant them too near flowers that you use compost on, it will affect the ph and then your blues won't produce.

I have one with wheels and I almost never use it. Because it puts you up higher so you really crunch your gut and over extend your back to reach the ground. What we need is a way to hover (like in the Movie "Honey I Shrunk The Kids") so a few ropes and hoists and we're good. LOL

I saw your Instagram story how the lilies are coming back. Mine are too but I have some asiatic and they’re kinda on the shorter side 12-18 inches so my question is would they be ok for cutting or no because you need to keep enough foliage for the bulb to produce another flower the next year. They say you need to leave 8 inches on the stem in order for them to flower the following year. We will see how true that is with mine this year! Some I cut to the ground for stem length.

I have considered it! We would have to do it in small patches as we farm acres of land. Compost adds up!

No, only ones that look/feel dry. The aruncus was pretty dry and so was the Solomon’s Seal. I did not soak the phlox.

It was in the 70s during the day (usually 50s and 60s) and 30s and 40s at night.

Why don't you plant your sweet peas so they climb up the deer fence you have already put up? It would save you space and you could always put some of the bird netting up on the outside of the fence to keep the deer from chewing on them from the outside.

Mine never did last year. They eventually got aphids and I stopped harvesting them in August but they continued to bloom.

You get so much work done in one day and you do it all with great humour and panache :) Question - how big do those aruncus get? I had ones that were huge so I got rid of them and purchased little bitty ones that grow to about a foot.

Blueberries need low PH. if you plant it in peat moss, not dirt you'll get berries.
