A lot of you are commenting that the rose might be an invasive species- we will have to keep an eye on it! We do have other cultivars of wild roses at neighboring properties that are NOT mulitflora- with pink and red blooming roses so I’m keep an eye on this one to see what happens!

Hi Nicole, I have wild roses on my property beautiful pink ones they can get out of hand but we just mow around our huge mound of roses. And when they bloom my friends are so jealous of their beauty. They are truely an asset 💕 I love my wild roses.

I potted 2 containers with 12 each of red tulips. I had 1 that actually bloomed, the rest looked like they were going to bloom but there was nothing inside the blooms. I pulled them all out and threw them away. I had given a friend half of my bulbs. She planted hers in the ground and hers bloomed beautifully.

So happy all your starters are doing amazing in the ground. But that biofilm 360 is a nightmare. Heard someone else use it for their veg garden and hated it. It disintegrated in the hot SoCal sun but not evenly. Bits and pieces are all over the yard.

I am SO EXCITED about the upcoming change in the weather. I'm also excited to have some days without rain. I haven't planted anything out yet. I'm just a hobby gardener, not a farmer, so it isn't important for me to try to rush things along. I had no idea there were so many varieties of trillium! I just love them. There are 3 patches of them in my big flower bed from the previous owners and our woods are just full of them along with trout lillies, ferns and wild onion. The trails are gorgeous. You have so many things growing this year....you're going to have a great year. Not sure what happened with those empty tulilps!? That's crazy.

Don't worry about your Columbine one bit!!! I had to transplant a few, along with a hydrangea that just wasn't getting enough sun, and I was super blown away at the roots on those Columbine!!! They were huge!!! And just one Columbine plant had enraptured that hydrangea so badly I honestly couldn't tell which roots belonged to what plant! It was crazy! I could not believe how thick and long those roots get! They are some incredibly hardy flowers too! I moved a bunch actually, some for my garden sale, and some were quite large already, but they have all popped back up! And every single one of my Columbine are already blooming! It's amazing! Our weather has been really weird, I'm in 5b. It was 85 in the middle of April, actually we've had more cold, like 34° nights in May!!! It's been so weird! I really love those trillium!!! We have some really pretty forest flowers here too. Last year I was able to dig up some Blue Bells and they actually all came up for me this year, it was very unexpected since I honestly thought I killed them...lol, but they came up! Love the mystery flowers!! Loll, I had no idea what they were until they bloomed!!! It was pretty comical, and a great surprise! I don't know about your land, but we have invasive "roses" that don't bloom, all they do is grow up ongo trees and have the most nargly teeny tiny thorns that get totally stuck in your hands! They are lined with thorns, and they can get big, I've been cutting them out the last few years. They will get 12 feet tall! Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you ever walk past one accidentally, I have huge holes and snags in my pants from them! They are the bane of my existence...and poison ivy, which has also decided in recent years to grow and try to strangle every tree, is in all the tall grasses. It's almost overrun the farm. Something about it being more humid in the summers here that it just loves, well I hate it!!! I'm highly sensitive to it, every summer I think about once a month I have to get a big shot in the behind to get rid of it!!! Lmaooooo!!! Tmi, sorry ha!!! Thanks for sharing about the Bio 360 too!!! I saw another farmer use it in a video and yeah wow, wouldn't it be nice to have that tractor set up lol!!! I didn't know it was biodegradable, that's awesome!!! I'm definitely going to try using it next year...with my apple picker of course! ;)

For the dirt problem on the white lion daffodils, you might want to edge the bare dirt border with wood chips to keep the dust down. Also White Lion is so lovely & fragrant (though short,) why not bouquets of just it alone? Would be stunning!

Ok seeing your ranunculus makes me feel better about mine. Mine seriously looks exactly the same as yours, I’m in zone 6a. I got mine in the ground about a week after yours but had them potted up on the porch for awhile before planting. This is the first time I’ve grown them so I wasn’t worried since yours haven’t sprouted yet.

Awhile back they had introduced biodegradable chip bags. (They did not last on the market because they were so noisy.) My science prof friend said that yes, they were biodegradable, but it took years to do it. I wonder if it is the same sort of thing with your not-plastic row covers.

I had that same issue with some empty tulips. Some of mine that did that had some yucky green fuzzy stuff growing on the bulbs.

Multiflora Rose is very invasive on our property. It's not in the yard, but in our woodland areas that surround the yard. I pull it when I find it in a flower bed. I have an area where it gets so high because it is climbing up young trees. It makes a thicket you can't walk through. But, man it smells amazing. It reminds me of walking our kids down the long drive to meet the bus.

I'm super sensitive to sunlight too. I'm never without my sunglasses. My daughter always adds them on my head or face in drawings. I use them as a headband when not outside. Your tulips are gorgeous. I bought a variety pack in the fall soo all of the new ones are all a surprise and some are absolutely gorgeous.

Tulips often won't fill out due to a rain or nutrient issue. If you're feeding them then it's probably the rain.

It's so much fun to watch the farm transform. Man that is a lot of seedlings!! I'm currently battling flea beatles. I had no idea that they will target Amaranth! My newly planted out coral fountain look like green lace!! My Ranunculus are done for the season but I think they'll come back next year. Hope you had a great mother's day!

Ahh, all of these tulips are absolutely gorgeous, the seedlings are doing great, the biofilm looks interesting, ooh trilliums!, and columbines... gorgeous. I have a columbine that has appeared every year in the same spot in my garden and i never knew what it was, until i used a plant ID app on it and that's what it was ID'd as. So awesome. 🤗🌷

This is not meant for staples, it is VERY thin and staples would shred right through it. I do use staples on my actual landscape fabric. But never alone. I’ve been repairing fields in below zero temps one too many times to just use staples. 😂 we live on a very windy hill.

Hello Nicole, you probably already know this but cool flowers Lisa posted an article about how glads are bad bugs magnets, I see you planting the glads so close to other flowers, I personally am going to plant my glads far far away from any of my vegs and other flowers. Lisa doesn't even grow them anymore bc of the disease they bring to her other plants. Just sharing some info... thank you for the great info you share! I try to keep up with you lol

Hey my weather is doing the same thing here in Wisconsin. Weird how that works (I actually have family in upstate NY and we always joke that I get their weather a day later) (Edited to add: I apparently hit done before finishing my comment. Whoops!) Your plants for the seedling sale look gorgeous! We had a lot of customers request lettuce and pea 6pks too (I work in a greenhouse during May and June). (And beans too...) They grow so easily for me in my garden that I wonder if other people struggle? Maybe it's because the mart of walls always has them in 6 packs? Swooning over your daffodils! Next year I'm going plant hundreds all over my garden. They're so easy and I always get distracted by tulips and other "shinier" bulbs that are higher care needs. Apricot beauty has been on my list for tulips for a few years now...that color is sheer perfection! A lot of gardeners and growers are having issues this year. It's because of the warm weather we had in the middle of winter. It interrupted the cold period for bulbs that need chill time and stunted stem length and ruined blooms especially on tulips.

I raised so many things from seed this year and many of them are doing well but some of my small seedlings didn't make it outdoors. It was disappointing. I don't know what happened. Birds? Rain? Rollercoaster temps? What would be your best guess. Some of the failures included chamomile, tomato 'cloudy day', golden chard, some poppies and stock. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, typically Lisianthus is ordered months in advance. They will occasionally have extras though! The company is called Farmer Bailey.

Things I constantly have to rip out of the edges of my woods: Wild roses (ramblers that have okay white flower tufts but very invasive and can ruin a walk through the woods) which love growing into other bushes, bittersweet vine which is super invasive and seedlings pop up everywhere if you allow the vines to mature up trees and go to seed, privet hedges which I leave alone in most places as they smell amazing in bloom and make a great mid-growth bush to hide wildlife and nesting birds. Easy to pull out: roses, privet, bittersweet and wild grape vines. The hardest thing to pull out is wild barberry bushes. The thorns are wicked thin, sharp and plentiful and pierce through gloves, their roots are so strong you need a machine to dig them out unless they are very young. Keeping a forest clear of invasives allows you to walk freely and enjoy the lovely things you want to encourage. We have a lot of native Jack-in-the-pulpit and I imagine you do too. Love them, love ferns like crazy. I would love to try a mass of bluebells like they have in British woodlands. The deer eat mine though. Love your Trillium!

isnt that strange .. here in New Zealand we do our best to destroy privet because it destroys our native bush so theres nothing of it left. it is also known to trigger asthma like problems in children. Yet all the old farms here have mounds of wild roses and they arre admired.

Share your excitement about Christmas ferns. Have wanted ferns in a specific area but they would be trampled with work on house so put them in alternate place last yr and only saw 1 frond from each of 2, nothing from third but this year all 3 have fronds, 10 in total!! I love wild roses but when tried transplanting them they died, then 20 yrs ago found nearly wild roses and was happy in scented pink rose heaven since. Wanted ramps to grow in the yard, they too failed. Thinking you should have some down there already in the violet shot, course I can't crush and sniff. Ifn you do have ramps all over that is a good crop to eat and sell. In WV they have ramp mania in spring.

There are a lot of drawbacks to waiting. Not only is bloom time lessened for the customer but it invited pest damage and weather damage by waiting. Farming is so much different than enjoying garden plants! It's a whole different world!

I am near Montreal and I have planted outside pre-sprouted Ranunculus 2 weeks after you (I think) - They stayed a bit longer inside. The are exactly the same size as you right now (you are my reference on that now) and I saw 1 bud on Ranunculus just 5 mins ago !! So it shouldn't be long before you see some ?

This is farming, it’s much different than landscaping - tulips don’t reliably come back and need to be rotated every year to prevent disease. Bulbs are composted every year!

Thanks so much for your update! I’m just south of you in NY, zone 5A. Is it ok to plant my gladiolus bulbs that I just purchased? I also have some Columbine that I started from seed that is ready to go. I’m thinking I could plant both this weekend? Things look like they should be finally starting to warm up for us.

I used landscape staples or earth staples from dripworks. If the ground is soft the plunk right it fast.

You should pop some wheels on those tables harbor freight has cheap wheels, then you can 1 person roll them out

What kind of camera do you use and tripod? My phone has no room and it is a struggle. Maybe cover the daffodils with leaves to avoid the splash. I just got gooseneck loosestrife - ugh. I got maybe 25 which is more than I can handle or ordered. I don't have a lot of room like you do. BTW in lynn byzinski's book she said this one is not invasive like the others! So! YES! I think the squishy tulips are immature. I had a couple.

Hi, that rose is more likely “dog rose”. About your not blossoming tulips there are few reasons 1. Planted too late so root system didn’t develop well before soil got frozen. 2. Soil is heavy and vet so flower buts rot. 3. Cold and late Spring. 4. Too much Nitrogen. Leaves are taking energy from flowers. 5. Lack of water.

I agree, possibly a dog rose- the neighbors have some of those. I'm waiting until the healthy tulips in that bunch are ready, I am curious to see the difference in root growth. So odd that the other 2500 tulips planted the same day were unaffected.
