My wife and I always find it amusing when you say you’re going to get ‘dirt’ (we always say ‘soil’ when we are talking about the stuff we have in our gardens for plants to grow); for us dirt is just what you get on your clothes, hands etc that needs to be washed away or the stuff you brush up to throw in the rubbish/trash. What you call garden soil we call potting/garden compost because it contains a significant amount of composted organic matter (the smell you got was from the rotting organic matter in the “soil”). My dad did a lot of gardening and grew most of our vegetables, so we regularly had a delivery of cow/horse manure that we would have to barrow from the street to his manure pile. I grew up handling the stuff (often with my bare hands) and grew fond of the sweet smell, even now I love the smell in the countryside. Love seeing you two journeying and building your home!

@martinscott-reed53796 ай бұрын
Make sure to protect your strawberry plants with netting. Cats are attracted to the leaves as they contain a chemical profile that is similar to that found in catnip. Cats can and will decimate the plants if thay are not protected.

A little tip if you suffer with slugs n snails which i think you mentioned in a previous vid, crush up some egg shells and sprinkle them over the soil. Only water at night when the sun sets as the heat boils the plants if wet.

key to them strawberry roots is take them and change their soil and spread them out more every season and you could grow loads every year

Only water first thing in the morning or even better last thing at night when it is not hot. For seeds, try growing them in your window for a month spraying them first thing in the morning to moisten them. Plant the seeds 5mil under loose soil and they should be fine. Good luck!

Just put the sunflowers in the ground with a little bit of potting soil by the house and they should be good 👍 I'd also spread a load of wildflower seeds all over the lawn it's great for the wildlife looks beautiful plus it means you don't need to cut your lawn until after the flowers have gone to seed at the end of the summer and they'll come back every year .

Belated Happy Birthday Anna, I hope you had a lovely day! With the wild flowers, just find a patch of garden that you don’t really use, away from the house and just throw the seed around like you would with grass seed, you could also plant a Buddleia bush( sometimes called a butterfly bush) but make sure to cut it back a bit every year or it’ll get huge! Obviously you need to water the patch every other day or so but other than that, you just leave it to the bees and butterflies.you can buy the wild flower seed in bulk, otherwise it’ll cost a fortune with those little packets.😊
@DanielFerguson-l2u6 ай бұрын
A Garden is any area of land attached to a house, which may include grass lawns, flower beds, vegetable plots, ponds, trees & bushes, & decorative paths etc etc What you are calling a raised garden, is just a raised flower bed or vegetable plot. A Yard is a hard floored area, usually quite small, surrounded by walls & buildings, often between & behind houses here in the UK on Victorian era town streets. Hence most are 'back yards'. They rarely have space for plants of any sort because they are essentially working spaces. Yards may be bigger, if for specific purposes, e g Farm Yards, Stable Yards etc, again these are working areas surrounded by buildings. The open areas within Castles are also yards. So Americans have taken the word for the small hard spaces behind houses to represent the much wider context of the Garden. Gardens can extend to acres of land, whereas yards are restricted walled in areas. A piece of ground planted with flowers is a flower bed. A similar area for vegetable growing is a vegetable plot, or if a bit larger may be called a vegetable patch. There are areas in most towns for growing things, not attached to houses, that are rented usually from the local council, in a number of plots. These are called allotments, where individuals may grow flowers or produce. They originated in Victorian times for people who only had back yards & not gardens. How often do you expect to be attacked by bees? In my 70 + years of life I have been stung be bees twice, a wasp once, & horseflies a couple of times. Bees aren't looking to sting anybody, unless you bother them. Bees are essential for propagation & the future of the planet. They don't look like English Daisies, more like Asters.
@donsava92726 ай бұрын
The British daisies are Perennials will return every year but the wild flowers are annuals which need to be sown every year unless they self seed.

Again, squeeze some wash up liquid and rub the sugar in!!! A good rub then wash as normal.❤❤ Also, if you’ve been chopping onions, garlic or anything stinky. This is going too sound stupid!!! But rub your hands on the tap it draining board. Anything stainless steel. That lingering smell 👃!! Gone. Trust me, I’m an ex Baker / Cook. It sounds stupid, but it actually works. Over here, you can actually buy steel soap. Youse your tap and drainer 👍💕🙏❤️

Aslong as the compost doesn't have a mouldy smell you'll be fine, compost will smell but should not smell like mould, a strong smelling compost is usually better quality in my experience. ( on top of the compost for veg adding stuff in to th3 compost such as worm castings, bone meal, seaweed, chicken manure, will boost the plants amazingly, these products all contain NPK which are the essential compounds for plant growth and are also organic.)

Hi both ! I think I’ve told you before that with cherry tomatoes you can plant them upside down and the tomatoes Will happily grow like this, flower and fruit so that if they hang just outside your front door they are available to pick as you go outside, snack like!. Have a go, it’ll be an experiment anyway. Good luck withe endeavours. With the sunflower you could plant one by the house. All you have to do is dig hole about a foot wide, put in compost about a foot deep and plant 3 seeds in the centre. The three seeds are so when they spout to about three to six inches, then prick or if you prefer pull out the two which are the weakest. And let the one grow on just outside the house this is so you can get seeds from it and also to feed some of your local bird life and also you can see this bloody big flower and seed head growing above your house for recognition. You will be able to tell which is yours then!!!! Easy peasy, lemon squeezey! Cheers both! Oh ! Just seen your English Daisies, I think they are really called Erigeron karvinskianus or Mexican fleabane. If they are and you can plant them on the edge of your box and they will form a clump and will also cascade over the side. There you go, I think that’s what they are!
