Another look at Eggleston as winter enters its final stages...hopefully! Also a progress report from Sunniside, along with odd bits and incidental stuff. This time of year it's hard to find footage. Clara is still away with a sledging injury, we are short staffed, the weather holds things up and much of the work is repetitive. Though as usual this will change. I won't upload anything under half an hour so there may be weeks we miss out....it's not about clicks for me, its about the work, good humour, and being human. With all our frailties, contradictions and interactions left uncut....warts and all as they say. Though I did have to remove a section about the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle interview (if that's what it was) this week. Sometimes it is just so tempting to comment on stuff in the news.....but in the end I like to think of plants and gardening as something that unites people in a common bond. Such things really would not help that, particularly with my occasionally unfortunate turn of phrase.
Best wishes to all.....Malcolm

I have always loved the glimpses into nursery life that you provide. I used to work at a nursery and miss it (well some parts at least) Now, I absolutely love the Sunniside bits, so glad you're showing this process/journey. Love a garden makeover. More importantly, thank you for the wealth of plant knowledge you share with us. I find your videos entertaining, very informative, and relaxing. Thank you SO much for making them!!

Interesting shape on your Jade Crab Apple tree, I have two, mature, and perfect umbrella shape trees. The deer population prune them regularly through out the year , saving me the job., and they look absolutely great when in blossom.

£4.00 is not enough considering the cost of running a business. I have a small farm stand where I sell 'grown on' plants. When I factor in the cost of supplies, labor, insurance £4:00 is not enough. This is NOT a get rich business; it's a labor of love. From what I've seen, Malcolm is spot on right in his pricing.

Thanks for another lovely video. Hey I rescued primroses and tried dividing them after they had perked up. But I really needed you lookin over my shoulder telling me to be more aggressive as there didn’t seem to be as many divisions as you had. LOL I just couldn’t bring myself to cut off the foliage! I’ll try to on the ones that are growing outside. Hoping for Clara to be OK,,please tell her that at least she was doing something FUN (the flight was great, it was the landing that stank). Best wishes to you all and make another video ASAP. ❤️🌱Poem was a lovely word picture just I was waiting for the shoe to fall.

The alpines are coming along beautifully, it would be nice to see a planting up demo using one of your hypertufa. The nursery is looking spick and span and ready for a busy year. Really enjoying your videos.

AND ANOTHER THING! While waiting for this video I have been watching many of your vintage productions and somewhere I saw images of what Sunniside looked like when it was pretty young. I would describe it as stunningly beautiful and I hope you talk about what you chose then vs what you are going to do differently this time and why. It would be helpful to learn some of the more simple rules for deciding how to “compose” a garden, not just “well I like it this way” but WHY. That is, of course, if you feel like it. All these current garden designers keep their tricks a deep dark secret, how often do we hear WHY they do things.

Another outstanding video, glad you didn't sully it with comments on the trailer trash. Loved the poem at the end, I can see why Amanda wouldn't put it on the fridge. The JRs love to be the centre of attention and get into alsorts of mischief. This is the second year I have done crown buds of my delphiniums and they are now about six inches high. We are a lot milder down here to what you are. I hope Clara is soon better and can return to the fold, we miss her cheeky comments. Take care and stay safe, Keith.

Wow another belter! Those saxifrage cuttings were rootless specs! Alot of work, but now I see why it is worth it! Hard to believe 4 or 5 ppl can do that whole nursery. And on cut time too. Huge variety of hardy plants there. A one stop shop! Thanks for sharing! If you have a load of weeding to keep up with in those borders, maybe worth testing a pre-emergent. A little goes a long way. Makes it easier pulling later on too. Man cut leaf oaks! Only one nursery in Aberdeen I know has one bedraggled tree FFS :( ...and he won't sell it lol :( No space, yet anyway :( Trees are looking good. Awesome to see the progress of that festoon! :0)

I'm strangely chuffed to have the same chipper as you. Love using it and I'm now planting extra Hazels to produce my own woodchip mulch for the orchard. Always liked a drop of Castle Eden too. Good to see it's being produced again, will have to see if I can order it online. Might have to pay a little more than I would for a run of the mill pint, but then an understanding of value rather than just cost always helps life along.

@@charmainepapworth9994 They are very good....but I’m not sure they’re worth the price, around £400.......it doesn’t cut as finely as I’d hoped but it takes branches up to 45cms.....and grinds them remorselessly. It is impressive, and it’s very quite by comparison. It’s also heavy, but that’s a good thing in some ways. I like it, but it is expensive.

I noticed all your delphiniums in the vid. I've given up on delphiniums here in Denmark (eventhough they're a favorite of mine). They've been great some years, and I've had success with your method of propagation. However, we have been overrun with iberian slugs the last 5-6 years in huge numbers and they always go for the delphiniums and eat them all the way down to the base. Same thing with Dahlia's. I collect the slugs frequently and set up beer traps, but it's Sisyphean labour. 😒

I hope not. It does make me wonder why I bother, but generally soon get over it.....and I’m not in the habit of blocking people because they disagree with me or don’t like the videos. They all have an off switch so I can’t always understand why they moan rather than just not watch. But never mind. I’ve been working in Sunniside today, weathers beautiful, birds singing, dogs sleeping in sunny spots around the garden, so nice to be alive and relatively well. Best wishes.....Malcolm
