Some from Sunniside, some from Eggleston, a fair bite from Barthelemy's....and some posh poetry from Amanda. All the usual really as another season come round again, preparation is the main task I guess, that and repairs and almost constant potting on.
Best wishes to everyone and thank you for your comments etc.

Happy belated birthday Malcolm! Count your life by smiles, not tears. Count your age by friends, not years! For many good friends/years to come! Last weekend hubby had some fun with the green shredder (the smaller one). Despite getting the cough from long Miscanthus grasses (which it is not constructed for) it worked its way trough our branches with ease. Sunniside already changed a lot, but I can tell you have much work ahead. Thanks for taking the time and letting us participate in the progress! Stay safe, best wishes, Hanni.

Happy Birthday Malcolm. 🥳 Those look like a Copper Marans egg or another breed that lays a dark egg. Very cool. Wendy's story about the husband watching Malcolm half past two hahaha and Laura 'determined to carry on' with a collapsed potting bench. Almost pee'd my pants watching Laura and Matthew trying to put new cover on the greenhouse. ROFL Love those shoes John :) Can't wait to see those delphiniums in bloom. Hope y'all have an amazing week.

Hi Malcolm how lovely it is to see the team, yourself and the Dorset contingent back in action. The story Wendy recounts re late night viewing preferences was part of a conversation my wife had with Wendy during a visit to the Barthelemy emporium in spring last year, a hidden gem indeed! The many and varied delights of lockdown here in glorious Berkshire include garden porn, bonsai porn, classic motorcycle porn and simply eating tooooo many biscuits. Always look forward to your latest postings, keep up the good work. Many thanks. Matthew.

I'm very happy with my shredder too. I have one with rotating multiple knives from Eliet (Neo 2) and I've used it for similar size branches. I use it every year after pruning trees and cutting my hedges. It's great because you get nice wood chips for mulching or composting. Only down side is the knives are bloody expensive and you need to sharpen them after heavy use.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂❤️⭐️❤️⭐️TO 120!!! I just spent too long looking for the horse’s head but couldn’t see it.(is this like when they said there was a message that Paul McCartney was dead?). I truly enjoyed this video, including the shredding sequence but it was funny cuz there was something in your body language, Malcolm, that said, “Why am I filming myself doing this!” Which made it really hilarious and fun to watch. And I am a busy person and not desperately bored. The shiny red barked Prunus reminds me of a tree I used to climb as a child in NYBG, nice to see it. I TRIED MOVING SNOWDROPS IN THE GREEN like you showed & LOL when I went to plant ‘em I couldn’t get the shovel in the dirt as it was frozen solid so they went in elsewhere.

Just shows my age, when Thomas referred to you having a muffler on, I assumed he meant a scarf!! Another interesting video Malcolm, you can really see where you've been at Sunniside.. Also good to see Bartholemys and what they're up to. Thank you for taking us with you as you create your new garden. May I ask a question...I'm moving house in the next month or two and I've had some wonderful daffodils in pots this spring. Can I take them out of the pots, dry off the foliage and replant them in September in my new garden? I plan to leave the leaves to wilt down in the pots to hopefully feed the bulb before removing and drying out.
@plantsmanscorner128
@plantsmanscorner128 3 жыл бұрын
Just keep watered as long as possible before they naturally die down...the longer they are green, the more chlorophyll, the more photosynthesis, and the stronger the embryo for next years bulb.......just cut off the old flower heads and keep them foliated outside in their pots for as long as possible Pegs. This is why if you cut them down too early they don’t build up enough and fail to flower in the next year or two (come up blind). Best wishes....Malcolm

Thank you Colin. The Maple is ‘Acer palmatum Beni-Kawa. It is, like almost all of my maples, one grafted by John Skinner....Matthew’s father and Wendy’s late husband. It is nice to have something to remember people by, and in the plant world this is made easier for us by the very nature of the business, which is all about life, growth, and rebirth. How we interpret such things is highly personal, but I remember so many nurserymen and gardeners through the plants they grew. Best wishes....Malcolm

I've got that Bosch shredder and you're absolutely right. I push the conifer stuff through with some woody stems and it seems to take it quite well. It'll easy do branches up to about a 50p piece. Just out of interest Malcolm, I've got some trilliums that need to be moved. When's the best time to shift them?
@plantsmanscorner128
@plantsmanscorner128 3 жыл бұрын
There are two schools of thought.....the majority will move trilliums in late summer or autumn. The thing is they’re dormant and it’s best to mark their whereabouts earlier in the year. The second opinion is to dig them up and divide them while in flower. It is a very efficient way of bulking up your stock, but keeping well watered when transplanted is essential. I hope this helps. Very best wishes....Malcolm

So much in this vid! This comment... if you decide to keep it will hopefully spark some further comments... man can't comment on everything here... its so good, its got loads of stuff!! Brilliant! If anyone makes it to the end of this, Ill be lucky, if any of it sparks further comments, that's the goal. Im not replying ever and assuming nothing of any replies ha ha ha :0) As for the chipper... Blummin 'eck Malcom, that's good footage and a pain in the ass to shoot with a part time cameraman. These domestic chippers are really expensive in UK. My parents had the smaller borsch bullsh*t model... absolute garbage. The guys in Canada and the US wouldn't put up with that stuff. The electric ones are just under powered. You can hear the motor bawking gears are rubbish. The design engineers just dust off the kitchen juicer drawings for the UK market. They're not built to last. All this plastic. Check out the American stuff. 'Warhorse' on here (if the video is still up) has a good petrol one. And much lower cost. UK is really an easy market. UK Domestic stuff... ppl are so sheltered and full of money. They buy and buy again. Thats the UK model for these sales guys. Year on year man... paints, appliances, everything. So sheltered. These buggars rely on repeat buisness. And if you talk to them... they'll tell you the EU and UK market is 'perpetual' gold mine. Hydraulic or hydrocarbon pumps are always the best. Hydraulics have super torque, they'll crush rocks and masticate the whole gearbox before they die! Any leaks and they'll have your hand though... The downregulated electrics on the UK market keep the people safe and also siphon off the cash year on year... ensuing people live but don't save much... have to keep the people earning ha ha ha... the buggars are on to something there! :0/ I should split these for the algorythm... somebody start a counterthread here lolz: As for baby number 2... more babies, better health for women. Possibly worse for their men ha ha ha... Healthy hormone levels though can't be beaten. Biology claws this back if women are not careful though... The healthiest a women is... is when she is pregnant (hormonally speaking). Celebs are in the business of replicating this stuff by applying exogenous hormones without being pregnant. Great results! The shining, the glowing ...the areola... don't ask... What can I say, minipizzas are a delight! In anycase it's an uplifting state for a healthy woman and one of the reasons that 'men' (at least in recent generations in the west) are just old 'boys' in comparison. Of course the highs go with lows during the hormonal onslaught of pregnancy... But seeing and talking to these women intimately and extensively... I have learned alot. Alot that biology already tells us. Celebs are replicating this stuff with exogenous hormone application as I say... trust me, I've met super sharp 80+ year old women with 8 to 12 kids (in the arabic world)... nothing cinister mind, these are the grandmothers of my friends. These women still have all their teeth FFS! Living in shacks in the desert! Emamel still thicker than mine!! I tell you, biology gets what it wants and gives back in some ways. Where it takes, the detriment can be circumvented.
