Hey Blaine, great vid as always, long term veiwer & subscriber, first time commenting (I think). With your help I'd self taught & done some of my own plastering around the house etc, far from my fitted furniture business / joinery background... I'm not quick by all means, but like to know I can do it myself & the results are very satisfying & better than most plastering I've seen lately. Massive fan of the speed skim too. But I was plastering a ceiling today, over artex, scraped off, 2 coats PVA, even extra-time added, still was drying up too quick for me, some how managed it, spraying lots of water on it keeping it hydrated. Felt like a hard day 😂 Thanks again for your videos 👍

Fair play to you mate and thank you for watching! I really appreciate that. Artex can force the plaster to set faster sometimes - it’s a real Bugger to work with so maybe just save yourself by overboarding. It’s actually easier to deal with at times

@@PlasteringForBeginners no probs, thanks for all your useful tips, really enjoy watching. It's so satisfying being able to achieve such a great finish, especially when it's not my trade.. I could never do a room in a day though, but at least I know if I need a small area done & my plastering pals don't have time then I can tackle it 😊... with the help of extra-time 😂 not all the time but I need to get used to getting it on quicker on the first coat, speedskim then flatten if necessary before the 2nd coat. I've practiced with a sponge float too, silky smooth walls afterwards but as you've said in a previous video, at that stage it just feels wrong to drag a ton of lines through it... plus timings, so I'm still a little nervous of it 😂 Part of me wishes I did over board, I have done at home, but in this instance it's a unit I'm renting & the ceiling has coving, that would've had to come down etc, led to more making good. But I'm pleased I got to where I did, saved it with lots of water, but I was conscious not to over do it & end up with a pat on the floor 😂 Anyway, sorry for the essay but thanks again 👍

Now pal! Just wanna say your vids are super informative and you’re a class teacher! Been plastering as part of my business for over 12 years, pretty much self taught and working alongside time served plasterers now and again. Started to get a little bored of the job in recent months also been through some shit times on a personal level recently so totally lost the love of the game and the aches and pains don’t get any easier either haha! However watching your channel has put a new spark in me and I’ve picked up a few little tips to change the game up a bit, notably with the Speedskim & Plaziflex, they still need breaking in a bit but I’m well impressed so far and sure they’ll only get better! A room in a day is a good old slog but gives a great sense of achievement when it’s done 🙌🏼 Even bought your course just for the crack and to show my appreciation! Also to use as a reference to teach other people myself in future as these old joints won’t last forever haha. Anyway long post but it’s just to say I appreciate it pal Keep em coming & Keep on spreading! Paul - North East England 👍🏼

A world of hell hahaha! I remember those days learning to skim years ago, inside cubbyholes with angles everywhere and me not knowing to apply it flat. I felt like crying so many times and walking off the job with the stress. Could never get it until I bumped into some randomer in a pub and got chatting, turns out he was a plasterer so I told him my hassles with skimming and he told me apply it as flat as possible going forward... My skimming stepped up massively within a few days and within weeks I was one of the best in our crew, the boss man couldn't believe it! Never met that plasterer from the pub again but that was a hugely important tip!

I wpuld of done this is the same way but as I'm a larger guy stilts would worry me. . . However I recently purchased the nela max plastic trowel and it's absolutely beautiful miles better than the plaziflex and as it's a stiffer plastic itl be more hard wearing. Give it a go

Hey man nice job! I hate wet angles so but like you said ,, got to be done to finish a room in a day, you say you use the plaziflex, not used that but do use the 600mm superskim finishing blade, give walls slight wet with the sprayer and use across the walls with reasonable speed not too slow, try it you will love the finish if you haven't already!👍

Just mix building sand in with pva and apply 24 hrs before. Keep stirring the mix. If it’s a really high suction background put a coat of well watered down pva before the sand mix. It’s so much cheaper than blue grit was doing it before blue grit came out!! Never had any issues

Hi mate always enjoy your videos , I’ve always made two separate mixes when I plaster , and the odd occasion do both coats out of the same mix, do you find when you use the same mix for both coats you get the same finish as two separate mixes ? Blain u was talking about the heat and the problems it can cause when plastering I did 5 ceilings in a house last summer they were artexed and needed skimming over I used extra time in the mix and didn’t have any problems with the 2 downstairs but upstairs (where the thermometer was reading 34 degrees ) turned in to a mare with cracking and peeling ide pva,d the lids with 2 coats and then 1 more just before the set and yet still had these problems I was just wondering what I could have done to elevate these sort of problems in the future I’ve seen u use blue grit recently du think that could resolve the cracking and peeling issues

I’ve had a tiny splash in my eye before but got caught out last week. Huge dollop went in my eye, it stuck my contact lense to the membrane at the bottom and I had to literally tear it out. Finished the ceiling with one eye, drove from Croydon to Woking hospital, was then sent straight to Chertsey hospital where my eye was checked for ph levels which were fine, burns which I had and it was washed out with 2 litres of saline. Big wake up call
