I'm a physiotherapist. Best thing for it would be to load the tendons in isolation when you're not working using weight/ resistance bands. Tennis elbow refers to a tendinopathy - Think of it as a load intolerance issue, you're using these tendons day in and day out when plastering but they can't quite keep up with the demands. If you load them to become even stronger they are able to manage the task better but continue with strapping and pain relief to help off set pain. Tendons respond better to exercise loading treatment in the longer term, especially tennis elbow with what the research tell us. Corticosteroid injections are very short term with tennis elbow < 6 weeks generally and repeat doses increases risk of rupture.

I think sometimes a little change in technique can help. I’m 28, 8 years in, and feel my shoulders a lot. I use more leg movement less arm rotation now and it helps a lot. I feel like I observed you doing like quite an aggressive ‘throw off’ at the end of your trowel, you lay, come back, run through it again and really come off hard, try easing off that a bit see if it helps at all. Don’t want to come across condescending just sometimes people don’t mention these things and it can be as simple as that making your day more comfortable. Big up on another quality vid

Go and see a chiropractor. I was told 20 years ago by a doctor to give up plastering as I'd had my quota of cortizone injections . The pain was excruciating every stroke of the trowel. Long story but a chiropractor sorted it out in 2 sessions . He explained the elbow was inflammed because I'd damaged my neck and shoulder from over stretching with heavy trowel, because these were not working properly the elbow was taking the hit and becoming inflammed . Honestly go and see one. NHS Gps are not trained or specialized enough, all they do is treat the symptoms and do not try and sort the cause . Ive never had tennis elbow since and at 53 am still doing as much in a day as when I was 33 .

I had two walls in a back bedroom to plaster, I`d DIY plastered before at my Mums thirty years ago, but it was hard going and though Mum thought I did a decent job, I didn`t reckon it was that good. I wanted to get it right this time and watched a few of your videos, these were a great help and I managed to accomplish the job without too much trouble, save for the plaster mix going off due to the warm weather we`ve been having. Hi dude, I had tghe tennis elbow quite bad a few years back. I know this will sound a bit weird, but at its worst when I was at my peak in coverage and ego. Then I was using a refina 18inch steel plaster trowel. I liked the size but always felt it a struggle laying on as it could take the whole hawk full in a single go. I treated myself to a Marshall Town 18inch steel plaster trowel as it were slightly wider. What I found was that just this extra width must have narrowed the angle at the wrist when applying the plaster, which in knock on reduced the stress at the elbow. Today 15 years on I can say that I hardly get the pain at all like I used to. This is a true story. Hope you find a simple solution as I did. Pain killers daily, not good...

Hi the support you are using does support the elbow but might not be the best for tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis). The best way to think of tennis elbow is that the major tendons from the muscles that extend the wrist have a common origin the lateral epicondyle with overuse this becomes inflamed and gives you pain. Rest is best but not always possible, have you tried a epi clasp? This acts like guitar fret clamp and does relieve the common origin to rest while you work. There are stretches/friction massage and exercises that can be done to manage it as well. If it becomes chronic from repeated overuse it can cause restrictive scaring and be difficult to clear up, prevention/management is better than a cure (injections/immobilisation/surgery) I've been a physio for 20 years and started plastering about 4 years ago. Keep up the good work 👍

It is part of the physio treatment along with gentle strengthening. Also I know it sounds strange. If you look at reducing some carbs such as breads and pasta and nightshade vegetables. This can reduce arthritic pain, especially when taking 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with the mother (this is the part which helps) in a glass of water, morning and night. If it helps you in the way it did for me you won't need any tablets. I was at the point of considering surgery. Now pain has gone from 8-9/10 on most days to 2/10.

@@PlasteringForBeginners should have mentioned I used to work as a Painter and decorator but now work as a physio. You can ice the areas for 20 mins. fill a polystyrene cup with water and stick in the freezer. Peel off the sides at the top and run under water to smooth the ice. Cover with a cold flannel and work on the sore points but look for the very worst points and press it in and hold until it decreases or becomes numb. Stick the cup back in the freezer to use again when needed. Have a look at any of the info on apple cider vinegar and reducing arthritis. I didnt believe it and I'm sure it won't work for everyone but for the potential benefit and low cost it's worth a try. I noticed a difference in 3 days, not sure how long it will take for others.Dont get me wrong there will still be some pain, but it's a hell of a lot less. Brufen to reduce inflammation is OK in the short-term but longer term isn't good for the stomach and would ony advise for the worst days if no stomach ulcers, otherwise avoid. Injections are hit and miss and very short term given occupation causing the problem. The carbs reduction was noted during keto dieting as reducing arthritic pain but also lots of other places mention it along with nightshade veggies. As with anything I always take advice on remedies with a pinch of salt, as im sure most will reading this, but all info can be freely searched online and I'm not directing anyone to specific products or websites. Just advice, to keep you working, and as pain free as I can. Hope it helps.

Sometimes even though a wall is plasterboarded the original walls are so bad the board follows that shape. As we saw with the chalk line on the ceiling. It looked roughly around 40/50mm out of line in the middle. So a nice thick coat of bonding just to bring it back to the line is whats needed.

The old tennis elbow is a nightmare (at its worst I couldn’t even lift a cup of tea ) I’ve had it now for about 3 to 4 years had ultra sound scans cortisone injections in the elbow ( of which the first worked and the second didn’t ) but the straps really help they won’t cure it but definitely keep it at bey according to my quack the only way to cure it is to stop work for about 6 months to a year so basically if uve got it ur lumbered with it and u have to learn to manage it keep the straps on now always at work even when it’s not playing u up that’s what I’ve done now for years and it’s definitely subsided

It was tough everything was slow going, I'm back using my right hand now tho. Even just making a fist can irritate the tendons so I tried to keep it as relaxed as possible and a strap around my forearm much as possible.

Mate for only the second time in 22 years I’m dealing with tennis elbow only this time it’s savage, been 8 months now and I can barely hold a cup of tea, got naproxen off the docs but sod that for long term use, just started prp injections this week and praying they do some magic soon 😖

Try an osteopath or something mate. The bloke I go to said to me that's not tennis elbow and did something to my arm and it mended it.

@@mrwright5699 cheers mate but unfortunately mines definitely tennis elbow, I paid to see a specialist private, and the orthopaedic who’s doing the injections confirmed it, it would heal easy enough with most people but us lot are knackered if it happens

Trouble with doctors they just wanna throw tablets and pain killers at the problem rather than find the cause and go at it from there things like this are definitely a repetitive problem more than likely the problem is a tight muscle within the tricep area that’s pulling on the tendon attached to the other end of the bone strengthen and stretch your tricep muscle and you should feel some relieve within 2weeks after a month it should be gone
