@dipyourcar you also forgot to mention the fact that it is a FANTASTIC protection from road debris and other wear and tear. I dipped a whole GMC S15 truck with cans only, I only ended up with some striping along the sides where I was lazy and decided to just spray the areas I felt needed more. Let's just say that you can't touch up areas without an entire new coat. All in all, the like Fonzie says, the finish is up to the person who applied the product. I've had tons of practice and I can now attest to that. I went from shitty finishes with stripes and drip with massive amounts of texture to smooth and even coats. I love this stuff!!

I was a plasti dip first time user a couple months ago and had amazing results. I watched a hand full of videos from Team DYC before dipping my rims to make sure I applied correctly. I took the rims off my car and applied 8-9 coats of white dip over my dark charcoal colored rims. I let them sit over night just to make sure they "cured" and set properly. The only thing I wish I had done was applied a clear coat over the top. But, WOW! My rims look amazing and wash clean fairly easy to bright white again. Very pleased with plasti dip and very easy to use as long as you follow their simple directions and don't rush your project. I can't wait to dip more parts of my WRX! Thanks guys for your tips and tricks on getting a clean dip!!!!

@po.russki8 жыл бұрын
Andrzej Raczynski yes but think about the people who will see the video headline and never click on the video to watch it.
@andrzejraczynski18968 жыл бұрын
+Po Russki i don't think so personally. the ones that love it will come in ready to defend it, the ones that are on the fence will come in and want to know why before they use it, and those that hate it will come in thinking they'll have more new ammo to attack with. if you were on the fence, and saw the title, would you just take it at face value and say "ok, i guess it sucks, scratch my plans because i saw 3 words on youtube"? if it was me, i'd click to find out why this person thinks it sucks, and i would have instead heard some good points on the product/process. psychologically, people are more likely to pursue something that appears to affirm their beliefs, than something that questions them or dismisses them. i.e. this video is for the negative consumers, who could actually learn something by clicking on it. but that's just my take on the 'why' of the title.
@po.russki8 жыл бұрын
Andrzej Raczynski second paragraph of yours, yes, actually. Some will just see the headline and conclude that, and close their browser. I can tell you I've done that before when trying to research something quickly. But just adding a question mark is clear that the video will be informative and answer this "question"

The first time i used this product i plastidipped my 5ZIGEN FN01R-C wheels vintage gold using only 4-5 coats. They came out very well but only lasted about 3 months before peeling. I gave it another shot and repainted them since i had plenty of cans left over. I also used 1 and a half cans of glossifier. This time i used 8 coats! Use thicker coats towards the end. I have been running my 5zigens daily for the past 6 months and no peeling, fading , bubbles or anything. They are easy to clean and still look perfect to this day. And i dont have any rough orange peel spots either, infact many people have no idea that my wheels are plastidipped. I also work on cars for a living and see them come in mostly with the flat black plasti dipped wheels with what i would call orange peel marks on them and no prep work at all. Some were so bad they just painted over the lug nuts and the tires. But didnt even bother to remove the dip from the tires. Yes i see this often and these are the people who give this product a bad name!

I made a flamy red/white effect on my Aygo mirrors, which resulted in a very rough layer, because it had to be sprayed at an angle to allow the mist to fall onto the mirrorcaps for that flamy effect. After enough layers on there, I just used some very fine sandpaper to make it super smooth and coated it with a clearcoat afterwards. The result kinda amazed me, it is very durable and looks very nice. Not to mention I'm a complete novice un in terms of spraypainting. I did the same effect on the center panel of the car as well Some of the white stuff needs to be redone, cause I sprayed it incorrectly. the edges are peeling off, I shoud've sprayed it around the corners instead of stopping at the corner. So yeah, novice here o/ It still looks nice though, but I was learning as I went along so to speak. It's very easy to use, so that low threshold DIY is definitely a good point for dip. And if things go wrong, you can peel it. Kinda a safety net... I'm glad it's cheap, easy to use and can be peeled instead of having to sandpaper the whole thing again if you screw up... If anyone's interested in what I did to my Aygo, here's me fumbling with the stuff. I still think I did a pretty spiffy job :D facebook.com/martin.borgman.13/media_set?set=a.643790859049775.1073741857.100002565994496&type=3

well when i do my own paint jobs i pay for the best paint i can afford at the time. for my truck i was looking at no less then $500 just to get enough "cheap" paint to cover the entire thing. that, plus the prep, which usually takes me about 6 hours for a sedan, probably 10 for the truck, plasti dip was cheaper and faster. i have done a very cheap paint job on a 4 door sedan for about 200 (autozone duplicolor pint cans) but i was not super excited about the out come. it still took me a day of prep work and a day of painting. unless im doing a show quality car, im rolling with the DIP!

Great products definitely no marks no stains, the only concern is when I peeling around the wheel nuts, it won't come off in one piece and cut surround the nuts, painful to remove the paint on the nuts, but everywhere else are easy to peel. Is that because I didn't put enough coats on the nuts?

Nice video, thanks....Just one comment. You mentioned 'common sense'. That's a very rare thing nowadays. Which is why you're better of assuming everyone hasn't got any common sense and create the instructions accordingly.

I've advocated sprayable plastidip since before it was for sale in regular stores. It works well on lettering and logos, but it has failed me again and again on my wheels and door handles. I usually apply 7+ coats, plus pearlizer. White dip becomes dirty and is exceptionally difficult to clean, even with proper cleaner. I've also never, ever been able to peal off my dip in one clean sheet. The fix it kit works well.

Time the fuck out thes dude put a wrap on. A car n peeled it off n called plasti dip? That's shady, cuz plasti dip doesn't have a white backing check it out at around 4:00 😂

It's a white base coat

+Jimmy Greissinger I've never heard of white base coat what's the point?
@jeremylehman81778 жыл бұрын
+Brian SPIESS just watch some videos on hear educate your self on it you just sound like a bitch as troll. You use different color primer and base coats to get colors right when painting with paint. It's the same with dip red will show better if you put white on first vs right over black. I couldn't tell you how many videos he has on here where he uses more then one color to get the right coloring out of a job.

I feel like you guys are very thorough with what your product is and how to use it, you need to not let your cage be rattled by trolls. I've seen this from you a couple times now in podcasts as well as this video, and as someone who is watching your videos as a professional this just makes me want to tune out. I understand your frustration, but this is the internet, there will always be some plebe who wants to run their mouth. Trust me, they aren't your customer base. Keep up with the good work

Great video and very helpful. At about 23 second mark you state that "if you don't wet the coats out you can easily end up with texture", Does this simply mean keep applying enough coats while the plastidip is still wet or can you let each coat dry first and then just continue to add more coats to produce the more uniform finish?

sorry man but that clip you posted was of a wrap NOT plasti dip I've peeled off both

+Ryan Mclin sorry man but that clip was Plasti Dip NOT a wrap - we actually sprayed that car on camera here on our channel. Search KZbin for "Firestorm Porsche DipYourCar" and come on back when you're done. (It's a compliment of course that the dip peels so well you think it's a wrap).

Nope. It peels like that if you have enough coats on, which is what he explained. If you don't use enough product it will peel off in chunks.

+Nick Piberius Wilde I know a guy with a plastidipped car and it lasted all winter and is continuing to look the same. plastidip isn't that bad at all. you just suck at applying it and got salty

+Andrew Klemmer No I agree with you, Plasti Dip is awesome when applied correctly and O have my wheels and a lot of trim parts and emblems sprayed with it on my car. Admittedly I want to take the plastidip off my wheels and spray something more permanent on but Plasti Dip isn't bad at all.

Hundred percent can speak for plasti-dip been a great product . I am planning to use it more. I have done my front grille and rear badges on my jetta 2&1/2 years ago. Have done approx 65,000km. Still looks as good as it did when first applied (minus some stone chips). No peeling at edges or where the chips are. I have been very surprised and happy with the product. (Applied 5coats matte black, 3 coats or glossifier)

Finally someone who explains very good what goes wrong out there. I dipped my front spoiler 10 months ago with 8 layers of plasti dip and had no problems until yet. It looks great until now because i used it right. And i have so many friends that dipped their wheels or whole cars and have no problems. They can peel it off without problems and it looks great. And yeah its cheaper than wrap it. but hey if i want to make a new color next year its no problem to do that. but if i wrapped my car i dont want to pay it again next year, because its much more expensive. Great Video

The only bad experience I've ever had with Plasti Dip was the nozzle on the can getting clogged up, resulting in a messy spray. Other than that, emblems, grills, wheels and trim pieces have been successful for me!
@vidarhermansen8 жыл бұрын
+JoshorBrownKid have you tried to preheat the spraycans in warm water? That should help to keep the plastidip much thinner than if the can is cold and the nozzle will not get clogged up :D

I love Plastidip, but I did have a friend see some residual effects after removing the plasti. He had a white FR-S at the time and he tried some red plasti on the trunk lid. After leaving it for a few days, he decided to remove it and try something else. When he peeled it off, he noticed a slight red/pink tint left behind. He could wash it or polish it off and it appeared to have dyed the clearcoat.The color eventually faded away, but it made him hesitant to reapply other colors to the car.The paint was in great shape, hadn't been repainted, and was the original factory finish. The only thing that we theorize was that the paint was still "new" and hadn't completely set yet. It seems unlikely, especially since the car was at least a year old at the time.

I dipped my rims like a week ago and did a 2000 mile road trip. Only did like 4 coats. Do you think I could add another 4 coats?

I had plasti dip on my car's roof for awhile, and when I peeled it off after around 2 years it had a slight yellowish tinge left. That being said the tinge did go away after a few month. I'm not sure what it was so I don't really use it now, and it was just plain black plasti dip I used.

to speak for the durability. i spray canned my wheels and went drag racing all weekend.. also the lane back to the pits because it was at an old airfield was very dusty and rocky. seen lots of guys just throwing pebbles off their slicks on the way back. I could hear them bouncing up underneath the car. wheels still look like they did when i bolted them on

had it on for 3 years and it was almost impossible to remove . I've sprayed it many times. seemed like it dried out over the years and was like concrete.

I've dip'd my bike a few times and the only 2 complaints I had were the neon orange faded quickly. 4-5 months and it was dulled out bad. Then there was my mistake with filling my tank and got gas on the dip. It rippled up really bad. Other than that the dip has held up well.

I started dipping a wheel and only got about 4 coats on before a family emergency stopped me. That was about a week ago. The wheel is off the car and has been drystored. Can I shoot more right on top to get the peelability or am I screwed?

How far away do you have to spray plastic dip & does it have to be wet coats or not ? And about how many coats for a long last ? On a car window trim and a car grill ?

I used plasti dip to redo the stripes on my 86 Winnebago that were half peeled, oxidized etc. I decided to give plasti dip a true test. I did NOT take the time to sand down the edges of any vinal stripes that were damaged. I had one lower stripe that consisted of 5 stripes and did not want to mask off all of them so decided to just make one large stripe. I did have some experience in painting many years ago at a body shop but that was totally different than shooting plasti dip right from the can. I could not believe how the job came out. Yes, if you get right up close aprox 1 or 2 feet then you can see a few blemishes but standing 3+ feet away it looks unbelievable. I went with the matte black. It was tough due to having to not allow drying time so that I could unmask before the plasti dip setup. I had a couple of runs but once it dried you can hardly see those... and If you didn't know where I had the runs I don't think you would even notice it. This is the most amazing product that I've ever seen for painting over old vinal (how the heck do you spell vinal?) stickers, stripes etc. I will upload a photo soon. I also wondered if I could mask off plasti dip to put a few orange pin stripes over the black plasti dip... so I took a piece of metal and gave it a try.. again, not letting it dry between coats like the instructions say... The black plasti dip did not peel, leave any marks from the tape, nothing! Just perfect black wide stripes with orance pin stripes. A stripe kit for my motorhome would have cost a fortune and hours of labor trying to remove the old stripes... (tried a heat gun at first but gave that idea up after a foot of trying to remove the vinal stripes). The secret is exactly as this guy says... all in how you shoot this product. I held the can six to eight inches away from the surface with stokes from one end of the stripe to the other... it came out smoother than a baby's behind.... Sorry I wrote a book but this plasti dip is one hell of a product!!!
