Michael Jackson's desire for plastic surgery made him a tabloid target and put him under intense scrutiny. In this video, Dr. Motykie discusses Michael Jackson's skin condition, vitiligo, and evaluates what surgery MJ might've had done including multiple rhinoplasties (nose jobs), a chin augmentation, and eye surgery.

What do you think of MJ's transformation? He's controversial, but after doing all of this research, I ended up feeling bad for him. His father had a huge influence on his psyche and his doctors should've advocated for him.

1. Thank you for not propagating the same repeated lies from the tabloids. They made it seem like he had 100 something surgeries. He definitely had more than what he said, but not what the tabloids said either. 2. Your video was very accurate. MJ had probably 3-4 nose jobs for cosmetic reasons and the rest were reconstructive from failed surgeries, but something also not mentioned much - his lupus. It deteriorates skin and hair (which is why he also had to tattoo his hairline and eyebrows, something not plastic surgery related), and deteriorated his nose multiple times. 3. Makeup changes also played a big role. Makeup can make you really look like anything, so when his makeup artists changed the style when covering vitiligo and surgery marks, it made him look different. 4. He did not want to be white or a female. He was proud of his race, he just couldn’t control vitiligo and decided to blend it in (no matter how he did it). He didn’t want to be a lady, throughout his life despite wearing makeup, he looked masculine and never said he identified otherwise. What bothers me is so many people have vitiligo now and we emphasize to them to not be ashamed (rightfully), but when it comes to MJ it’s almost standard to mock him. The poor dude suffered so much from the public and tabloids all at once, I’m shocked he faired out half as good as he did. Thanks for the video again, it means a lot you did research. Edit: If you haven’t researched this entirely, don’t spew nonsense about Michael. You know who you are. Also, don’t spread HATE towards Michael. Again, you know who you are. These aren’t the strides we should be taking to make the world better. Also, the inside is more important than the outside. Indirectly or not, writing false information is spreading misinformation which is what ultimately hurt Michael to his core. Please don’t do it more. If only more people knew how great Michael was of a person, he wouldn’t be scrutinized and slandered as much as he was and still is, and some people here on this video wouldn’t be either. Nobody said you couldn’t give your opinion but do it respectfully.

@@MJKing0929 I agree with you, his face structure and bones are the same, and he had a couple of bad make up (long eye lashes, or that white line in the inner eye line-which made his eyes bigger) but overall if a talented person (im not) who can layer his photos on top of each other everybody can see that he is the same. I believe him more than anybody else. The autopsy report says he had scars behind his ears, that is I believe face lift. But that was way after he spoke about it in the interview. In his book he spoke about the cleft in his chin. And his dermatologist Arnold Klien told MJ visited him at the this is it rehearsal time for fillers.

I agree with you. He was a really good-looking guy despite what his father said. I wish he would’ve stopped having surgery in the early ‘80s after the first couple of nose jobs. The eye work really changed his look too and not for the better IMO. I don’t understand his doctors. I’ve had my nose done more than once. It didn’t come out right after the last revision. I’ve consulted a few reputable doctors and they said they won’t operate on me. They think it’s risky and there’s a low chance of improvement. And my nose isn’t anywhere near like Michael’s. It still looks natural; I just think it’s bigger than I want. Still, most of them won’t touch me, especially when they learn who did my last revision (he was a very well respected revision rhinoplasty surgeon, so he’s like God to other surgeons).

It’s so ironic that Michael thought he was ugly. I grew up in the 70s, and every girl I knew was in love with Michael Jackson! Later on, I think Michael could have been more open about having vitiligo and people would have been understanding. Because he kept it on the down-low, a lot of people thought he was lightening his skin to look like he was white.

Totally agree on the whole vitiligo thing. many people and fans had no idea for years that he had that going with his skin. I think the one or two times his complexion an skin tone was brought up to him he briefly says I can’t control vitiligo or time. I think if he just said earily on during thriller years when it started to became an issue for him he should of just addressed it I got this going on and trying to manage it so if I look at bit off it’s because of this. Along with his honesty about his surgeries and that he struggles with his looks an image. People wouldn’t act Still the way they do towards him. Yes by the Bad album he had a shade or two lighter complexion than on thriller and a thinner nose. Still I think Bad during the late 80s was the last time I think he still looked fairly normal not really African American like features anymore but still normal. With those two things going on really messed up his looks. If he had neither one or the other and stopped earlier on what he would of looked like. My opinion he should of stopped after Off the wall and or Thriller. I believe he had two nose jobs before Thriller came out in 82.

he had discoid lupus. It is higly doubtful he had any cosmetic surgeries after mid 80s when he was diagnosed, as plastic surgeries can make lupus more active. He did remove lupus scars from nose and had multiple reconstructive surgeries on scalp, and used Botox to try to make his nose look bigger. Especially after early 00's lupus flare up.

Michael just lied on his dad. They all resemble each other so why would he just tell Michael that. NO, Michael became the famous one and got mixed up with all those 'fruity' stars and their ways. He is deflecting his eccentric personality onto his dad as an excuse for his far gone behavior. He won't blame himself. None of the other brothers ever say anything about their father being abusive. Back in the day those fathers were strict on their kids, especially boys and the type of environment they came up in. It was a whole different era. You even showed a picture from the 80’s where his facial butterfly rash was completely visible. I also felt bad for him. The sheer pressure of feeling that sort of need to be perfect for not only his father, but also for the whole world. He was a very complicated figure during his lifetime, and stunningly talented. I just read this, I also pointed out his lupus in my comment. So much of his so called surgery was actually attempts to reconstruct from the damage lupus did to his face. His surgeon is quoted at saying that. He had much less purely cosmetic surgery than it looks like. Most of the changes in his appearance over the years were due to the lupus, vitiligo, extreme weight loss, aging and makeup.

His vitiligo manifested quite young. Added to his fathers attitudes I think that could have had a devastating effect on how he saw himself. Speaking as someone with 95% pigment loss and an accompanying loss of sense of self. Others I know with vitiligo also have this, even though attitudes are much better now and at least there is some awareness now. I do believe any repeated surgery was not just a cosmetic thing but reconstructive after very bad surgery outcomes. The jaw surgery may have been an attempt to normalise his features but sadly lupus did not help. Very sad for him, he was quite brilliant and of course hugely creative, and did have a genuine interest in helping others.

He said that he would see children playing in the park when he would be driven to the studio to WORK- he would cry because he wanted so badly to be able to just go play with those kids at the park. He was probably ambivalent, because of course he loved to perform and music was his life. When you deny a child their childhood, they don't develop properly, and it's all but impossible to resolve in later years. Children aren't meant to be famous at such a young age. The only thing 50 years old about Michael Jackson when he passed was his wear-and-tear. We're seeing it with Britney Spears.

They get addicted to the money and the fame, but it is their choice to continue the path of a celebrity once they are adults, they could easily just abandon it entirely. Many child actors have done this and are far better off than the ones that continued.

His father bullied him all the way through and pushed his sons to become famous. He never felt loved by his dad as a child so he felt he needed to continue with the path his dad set to feel accepted. At the end, MJ never rlly had that peace after being bullied by all the fucking ppl in the media and his own label. He never got a damn brake from people around him and it’s honestly sad. I've seen a comment someone made referring to why some child stars turn out messed up as adults has to do with the parenting, not the fame and fortune (it was referred to as an unpopular opinion, but I think this is true) The few stars that we're mentioned as examples were Macaulay Culkin, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears and mentioned that their fathers in particular were rather controlling and money hungry vultures (I think MJ and his father also fit this example)

This is the most compassionate AND factual discussion of Michael Jackson’s multiple surgeries and the context in which they took place. Obviously, the world has known he had surgeries, but it is rarely mentioned the types of “deformities” he suffered prior to starting his surgical journey. I have heard of these things mentioned separately such as the scars from his burns in the Pepsi commercial or that he had vitiligo, but the psychological effects of these things are rarely mentioned when discussing his appearance. I believe he had said the vitiligo started as he went through puberty, which is an awful time for most of us let alone to have a disease process that gives him more reasons to be insecure. It’s also terrible that while I remember him telling people about the disease, I also remember many many people saying it wasn’t true, there is no such thing, and that he was flat out lying because “he was trying to turn white”. When I think about the pressure to look perfect combined with no one having any common knowledge about vitiligo like we do today, I can’t imagine how terrible that would feel. None of this fully explains or “normalizes” the end result of Michael’s look, but it gives a much needed context in which all this was occurring for Michael. I really appreciate this video. I also think it matters, because I can imagine that many people to this day fear plastic surgery because the imagine Michael (I would mention Joan Rivers as well 😉).

I see spot of racism among his fans, they even say his African heritage doesn't matter and that no one cares. But he said it mattered. That's all so racist. This is decent respectful research. MJ would usually admit to 2 nose jobs and a cleft added to his chin. The cleft is most likely what made jawline more square. I wonder if he did two full rhinoplasties, then just did reshaping of the cartilage and skin in the tip of his nose. I also think he struggled with balancing his Black features on white skin and may have been trying to create a look within the conditions he had. He suffered a lot in the public eye just because of lack of awareness at the time.

Believed it? Why would someone who had changed from such brown skin to lolly white skin colour and use umbrellas out in the daylight alot want to lie about having Vitiligo? It was slap bang in the face obvious he had it. There us no such procedure or cream that is good enough to completely change skin tone that drastically. Only creams that lighten the skin and it comes out very blotchy. Not neat. Plus it messes you up. Now why would he want to have changed his skin colour from brown to not just milky coffee colour (as I know a lot of African Americans and other ethnics try to with mail order creams), but to a completely white as snow tone like he became out of choice,?? Those questions never entered your mind? 😑 Of course it was vitiligo. If somebody says they have Vitiligo , then they have Vitiligo.

His dad worked in a steel plant before marriage and his own dad was quite hard on him. Their life was very hard. It seems that the harsh treatment Joe received growing up affected his self-dignity and he didn’t want his kids to grow up feeling like they’re worth nothing. Hence he forced them all into show business. It makes sense to say that he began to grow jealous of Michael’s talents and success because Joe himself was never given an option to sing and dance when he probably wanted to do that.

I also hope that plastic surgeons realise that the new ‘instagram face’ Kim K standard of beauty is another variation of MJ’s peak aesthetics. His peak form is ‘Bad era’ in the late 1980s characterized by light tan skin, small slightly upturned nose, high cheekbones with hollowed midface and lower face, thick lips (he was black so he didn’t do anything). His autoimmune diseases of lupus and vitiligo caused further evolvement but its funny how the world who once laughed at him is now emulating a version of him.

it’s so crazy to me that he was so insecure about his looks :( i grew up listening to his music and watching his music videos over and over when we listened to mtv. i thought he was the most handsome man ever when i was younger. he just came off as so confident and sure of himself onstage, that i just can’t imagine him being so insecure offstage. makes me sad

I agree. Unfortunately, he also suffered from Lupus discoide (the picture in which he has Red cheeks... it's not vitiligo). But It was a secret since he felt too ashamed. His kind of lupus causes damage to the skin, especially to scars (First beautiful nose job) so his nose started to collapse again and again while doctors tried their best with other surgeries but...lupus couldn't allow his nose to recover (Same thing for his Deep burns in his head...so many surgeries...but It was all covered by wigs) his nose was sadly noticible right in the middle of his face and...he hated It, he hated himself because of it calling himself "a lizard". So sad when I found out. His face (not his chin!) naturally changed shape because of Eye Makeup, tatooed eyebrows with lifting effect (they didn't grow naturally anymore because of vitiligo) Age, anorexia (slimmer, more chick Bones) and a collateral effect of his medication for lupus Prednisone/Deltacortene: the so called "Moon face" (round face) which he assumed periodically during the years. All this, from his post-mortem report. Sorry for my English...

Thank you for doing actual good research and being respectful about MJ. So many people don't understand how he ended up looking the way he did and they just blame him for his appearance without considering the many many factors that led him to become like that. Also, I noticed you too have vitiligo, and it's really nice to see people affected by the same condition supporting each other.

I really enjoy your analysis of Michael Jackson...as well as many other patients. Your approach to your clients is subtle...and yet amazing in the changes that happen. So many go from plain Jane looking women to very beautiful women...and yet the changes are so carefully done that they are not obvious at all...and yet the overall appearance is suddenly beautiful and pretty. I myself had a facelift about 4 years ago...my doctor was like you...I believe...he made me appear younger, fresher, happier...and yet it was nothing extreme at all. But the changes made me appear years younger. I was very happy with what I got. My doctor was Mark Checcone in Sarasota Florida.

His first nose job was after he broke it during rehearsals and when he had surgery, it didnt heal properly..they didnt know until after a few surgeries of trying to fix it that he actually had lupus discoid and this was the reason why he was having problems with healing and scar tissue.. in the court documents it said that the lupus discoid caused scar tissue around his nose after the first surgery and affected his breathing so the surgeries after the fact were reconstructive surgeries to fix it.. eventhough its advised not to have surgery when you suffer from lupus (you see evidence of his lupus with the butterfly rash on his face in some of the pictures you showed.) His lupus and vitiligo was confirmed in his autopsy. Also, he had his eyebrows, eyeliner and lips tattooed because he had no pigment left from the vitiligo - this made his face look a lot different..and with the help of makeup contouring throughout the years to give his face some definition to make up the loss due to vitiligo.

@@dunjun9937 yes of course, I never said it wasnt an insecurity. I was adding extra information that people seem to miss out. This information is from his doctors and also in the jordy chandler, 1993 civil case, the Prosecuter had a doctor go through his medical records and he confirmed that the rest of his nose jobs were actually reconstructive surgeries because the first had failed to heal. He was recommended to not have the reconstructive surgeries, but because of his insecurity and the inability to breathe properly, he went against the advice. And yes, mj was insecure by his nose too. When he broke his nose, he thought that this was a time to fix his insecurity. That's when the problems began. Theres no need to bring Janet and latoya into it to support someone else having surgery because practically everyone in the industry has had some sort of surgery because of their insecurity. It doesnt prove or disprove anything. But anyway..you dont have to buy it.. it was all confirmed by his docs and court docs..theres a video here on KZbin of the doctor explaining this.

First of all I am a retired elementary school teacher. I am African American and around MJ age. Michael was extremely handsome as a child, teenager and a young man in his early twenties. That being said. I read that Tom Sneddon hired Dr. Richard Strick ( a plastic surgeon from Santa Monica) to look over MJ's medical records during the 2005 trial. According to Dr. Strick the first 2 surgeries were cosmetic. However the subsequent surgeries were reconstructive surgeries so that Michael could breathe. His Vitiligo was a contributing factor for his skin lightening. His Lupus caused issues with his surgeries healing properly.

Just FYI, aside from the Vitiligo and Lupas that Michael Jackson had (confirmed in autopsy), you have to consider how the ballooning on the back of his scalp would virtually cause a lift to the face. He admitted to adding a cleft into his chin, had his upper lip tattood with higher arches above his actual lip. He's had his nose done multiple times - but there are many celebs that have gotten far more work done and is less noticable due to skin/ballooning etc.

However from your diagnosis and the photographic evidence over the years I can absolutely see that he suffered from the skin condition vitiligo. One way and another he did try to cover it up very well though.

I would've loved if you dive more into the backround of his surgeries. First of all: he had Vitiligo just like you've said, which also got confirmed in his autopsy. It occurs when cells that produce melanin die or stop functioning. There's no skin bleaching. 2nd thing: he suffered 2nd and 3rd degree Scalp burns which affected him til his last breath. 3rd thing: he had acne which caused a lot of scarring. In the early 80's he got diagnosed with Lupus which caused inflammation on his cheeks and a lot of scarring. He often had to reconstruct his skin to remove the scar tissue which you can see on the sides of his nose. The first time he got nose surgery was in 1979 when he broke his nose during a dance rehearsal. His rhinoplasty surgeon then messed up his nose which made him Not able to breathe properly. So he had to undergo a 2nd one. If you know Michael, you know his father bullied him abnormally with sentenced like "big nose" "Eww you're so black" "you're not my son" "you haven't got your Nose from my side of the family" and and and. He has always had them very beautiful cheekbones which he haven't got done. Lupus causes hair loss which made him loose eyebrow hair in the early 80s. He got his hairline, lips, brows and waterline tatted on. A big factor is also that he got older and much slimmer cause he wasn't doing well. A man which has to deal with pressure, his drug addiction cause of the 2nd and 3rd degree Scalp burns and hell of weight loss can't look healthy. It's impossible. It just is what it is. Please respect him guys. He did more than anyone else for this world. It's his decision. Not yours. There's a reason behind every surgery. 🙏🏻 rest in peace GOAT! Big fan here ! Loved this video!

So if you want to look it up as to why vegans will most likely live longer than meat eaters look it up. It's actually common sense especially if you are in America. We have some of the worst farms here. We also have the fda being paid off in order to allow these poisonous meats. Did you know that some fda employees live like celebrities? This should be impossible but it's happening look that up and start connecting the dots when you have time.

We need that to wake up refreshed. So after all of the trouble he went through to get to sleep, he didn’t get the real thing.
