It's a fun idea and you can use whatever colors fit best, like pink, blue, green and lilac for a unicorn fest. Yellow, orange and brown for a fall fest. Etc. The sparkling lights behind it were so much fun! Personally I would skip the white all together and pick two highlighted colors for the table. One can still use white plates to place the - again - colorful candy on. Soften it a bit with some greenery and perhaps some plush animals. Then I'd either get some big balloons, that make a statement, or drape some light material in the right color over them and make a lush ribbon under the balloon to make it stand out nicely.
