I use a woodburning kit, it has a lift putty knife tip. Plastic milk jugs and zap straps make good filler material.

Outstanding video, mate.😂Funny how this episode came out right as Im done welding a Craftsman Eager1 gas tank leak. I must say the most important portion is cleaning and wiping the plastic with Acetone or nail polish remover is THE MOST IMPORTANT! I learned the hardway when I destroyed a ryobi cs30 gas tank trying to learn.

Plastic welding has become a favorite repair technique I've been using for several years now. I used it to repair an otherwise completely ruined dash and door panels in a 2001 Ford Ranger project truck. In order to see any of the repairs, you have to look really closely and know about where the repairs are. A neighbor bought a Toyota Tacoma that a previous owner had cut up the air filter box and tried to install a cold air intake only to ruin the truck and make it inoperable. It took about an hour and three plastic welding strips in order to get the box to where it could be used and the mass Airflow Sensor would work properly. Then we were able to address the other issues that the truck was having. I have a Craftsman LT1000 sitting in the back yard that is waiting for me to do the very repair that you are doing here when/if I ever get to it. (Funny how personal equipment gets put on the back burner at times). But Plastic Welding has really changed the amount of items that get thrown away around our neighborhood. It is a great skill to learn and not that hard. Equipment can be inexpensive or improvised, like in this video, or you can get a kit from Harbor Freight or similar for about $16, and go up from there to how much you want to spend for your needs and beyond up into the thousands of dollars. Great repair, neatly done and great video! Thanks for posting this.

were were taught how to repair plastic in my previous job. What I found best to smooth out the repair is a putty knife. It's flat surface works well to smooth the surface. Good one Tom.

Great info. Would you recommend first putting a little water in the tank then emptying?
@VintageEngineRepairs

It isn’t necessary, but you can use compressed air to remove any fumes in you’re unsure that it’s fully empty!
