Several months back I came across a news type show here on youtube. They had on a microbiologist to talk about microplastics. He was saying how microplastics (and nano-plastics) are pretty much everywhere on the face of this planet. Microplastics he said have even been discovered as far away as both the north & south poles as well as antarctica. He said they are in our food, clothes, toiletries, and our drinking water. He said it's found not only in plastic water bottles but also glass water bottles because of the plastic that's used during the filtration process at the water plants. He also said that home water filters that you attach to your sink were also found to have shed microplastic into the water as it comes out of the faucet. He said the stuff is in the air we breath at home because of furniture and carpeting that release it into the air. Even our electronic equipment shed microplastic into the air he said. The interior of your automobile which includes any type of mass transit and airplanes, yep you guessed it, microplastics! I kid you not the look on his face as he was saying all of this was such a depressed and sad look. Oh, and let's not forget about microrubber which is shed from automobile tires! We're breathing that stuff in too!

Here's a ChatGPT summary: - A new study links microplastics with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. - Microplastics were detected in carotid artery plaque and correlated with a 4.5-fold increased risk of heart attack or stroke. - The study followed 108 people over several years and found significant correlations between blood levels of microplastics and the severity of acute coronary syndrome. - Microplastics such as phthalates and polyethylene were found in higher concentrations in patients with heart attack-like symptoms. - The study suggests two theories: microplastics may cause immunologic shifts leading to plaque development, or vessel occlusion may release microplastics. - Microplastics are also linked with erectile dysfunction and have been detected in penile tissue, testicles, and placenta. - The primary sources of microplastic exposure include plastic water bottles and disposable coffee cups. - Supporting glutathione levels can help detoxify microplastics, with NAC and glycine being beneficial supplements. - Food and drink packaging lined with polyethylene is a significant source of microplastic exposure. - Increased blood levels of microplastics are linked with heart attack symptoms and carotid artery plaque. - Microplastics may drive inflammatory pathways in the body, contributing to various health issues. - Saunas and exercise can help excrete microplastics through sweat. - The speaker emphasizes the importance of reducing microplastic exposure by using stainless steel or ceramic containers and avoiding plastic packaging. - Main message: Microplastics pose a significant health risk by contributing to cardiovascular disease and other health issues, and reducing exposure is crucial.

Looking into the study, but not very deeply yet. Difficult to understand the data, only 101 participants. Very large dispersion in plots... Even though I absolutely agree with the harms of microplastics and I try to use wooden or metal utensils in the kitchen, there could, however, be other explanations. The people admited to the hospital with all these symptoms may already have received different injections to stabilize their conditions. Maybe drip bulbs maybe something else. Since we know heart problems are very probable in diabetics, these may be people who regularily inject insulin. They may be on hormone replacement therapy, again may have regular injections. And we have papers like "Microplastics and nanoplastics released from injection syringe, solid and liquid dimethylpolysiloxane". Somehow, I feel that it is very natural, the more ill the person is, the more different injections the person gets.
