Tony just broke the record for gold medal wins. This video is from 2000. Here he is 24 years later still doing it. And brought his son into the fold along side him. Truly an amazing talent.

This performance made Joe Connelly the first person to win 3 golds and was Tony's 2nd, now Tony has 5.

ahahaha I love Tony's face when he realises he's just sealed the deal on one of the best chords in barbershop history =P I don't think I've ever seen an uptune with that much energy

The look on Tony's face on the ending chord says it all "I just nailed one of the best end notes, full voiced." Absolutely astounding!

If you split Tony's talent into four equal parts, those four parts would still win gold.

Never heard this song, and had no idea that they had the highest scoring uptune. They're volume control and tuning is beyond amazing, but one thing that really stuck out to me as a new barbershopper was the timing! Just wow.

how fantastic to hear this against the 1999 performance. This is so nailed. Having heard it too many times i am still in shock. Perfectly together, awesome timing, such rythmic precision and swing and energy. I think this is the finest barbershop stuff out there. Joe even reals it in a bit, and when he doesnt there all seem to rise and smash more ff locked chords. WIPE ME DRY

What this group has is something many quartets miss...........perfect blend. The tone of all four voices melds perfectly. Its like warm honey............absolutely exquisite. Each one of them could solo with equal merit. Together they are SPBSQA magic!

So many "modern" quartets miss this. The Lead and the Bass are the most critical voices (except for special situations) and the other parts can throw the chord out of balance if they are too loud.

@hewb32 I'm not sure what your 93.3% is referring to, as Platinum scored a 93.9% when they won, not a 93.3% (this is also denoted in the video description). This record DOES still stand, as the second highest of all-time is Crossroads with a 93.7%. Keep the whole world singing. :)

@Jackman24601 Are you a Barbershop Harmony Society member? This arrangement is in the catalogue. (There's a handful of different arrangements of this song done by different arrangers, I believe this one was Ed Weasche.) If you're not a member I believe you can still order, call 1800 876 SING and ask for the Harmony Marketplace. They're really helpful and can tell you.

@Matthewschneider123 Do you even sing barbershop? Because if you don't you shouldn't be making these ridiculous comments. First of all the most important thing about singing barbershop is doing it properly then humor comes second! Also some quartets don't want to be a "comedy quartet" that is their choice! If you understand the craft of barbershop then you would understand how difficult it is to pull of a performance like that. Your opinion is off of movies so it is really not a educated opini

@matthewschneider123
@matthewschneider123 12 жыл бұрын
If you re-read my comment I said FRED has humor while not sacrificing beautiful harmonies and losing the "barber-shop feel". watch any barbershop in any old movie, the originals had humor (or at least enjoyed performing together), these guys have one constant fake smile, its like they are trying too hard.Perfect tone/harmonies is admirable, but at what cost?
